A 15-minute city is an idea to make sure that everything you need for daily life, such as work, school and shopping, is within a 15-minute journey from your home. The idea of 15-minute cities was first introduced byProfessor Carlos Moreno in 2016. It became popular in around 2023. Many people moved to less crowded areas because of difficulties in moving around. But they later missed city conveniences and wanted better transport systems. So 15-minute cities became a way to achieve the goal of having both good transport and services. Many cities are being encouraged to take on the 15-minute city idea. Paris is creating a 15-minute city to cut car pollution.People will find workplaces, schools, and shops on foot or by bike. The city is building bike paths and green spaces like parks to fight heat and floods. Saudi Arabia is building"The Line" in 2022, where people can reach parks in 2minutes and all services in 5 minutes. A high-speed train connects communities, taking only 20 minutes to travel across the city.

However, challenges exist(存在). Some places are too hot or too cold for walking or cycling all year. Also, it is difficult and expensive for governments to change a traditional city into a walkable city. Finally, what people need every day like food often comes from far away. That may cause a lot of carbon emissions(碳排放).

The Weifang International Kite Festival opens in Weifang, Shandong Province, on the third Saturday of April every year. It draws kite lovers   around the world.

In the 41st Weifang International Kite Festival, there were 1,000 kites from 46 countries and areas,(include) the United States, Japan, South Korea and Italy. Visitors enjoyed different kinds of kites and took part in kite-flying (activity).

The festival has been held once every year in Weifang since 1984, and has become  important event for the city. Weifang (know) as the"kite capital of the world" and has a long history of kite-making,dating back over 2,000 years.

The festival has a cultural importance, as kites (play) an important role in Chinese culture for centuries. Kites were (first) used in China for military (军事的) purposes, such as signaling and measuring distances. Over time, kites have had something to do with fun, and have been often flown during festivals holidays.

Today, kite-flying is a popular amusement in China, and the Weifang International Kite Festival is one of (large) kite festivals in the world. The festival includes a lot of things to do, such as visiting kite-making workshops, holding a kite-flying competition, (enjoy) traditional Chinese music and dance performances.

A 6-year-old girl is helping out at a foot spa where the owner and workers are (聋的). She serves as a sign language translator(翻译) for (顾客).

Hu Yunjia, nicknamed Niuniu, is the daughter of the foot spa owner Hu Yong.

The father Hu, 34, (失去) his hearing and speech because of a terrible fever in his childhood,making it difficult for him to find a job. After finishing (培训) in the foot spa for pedicure(足部护理)abilities, Hu started the business in Chengdu, the capital city of Sichuan Province, in 2019. Peng Feng, the mother, who is  (也) unable to hear anything, works together with her husband at the shop.

"Madam, what help do you  (需要)?""Sir, my dad asked you to take this ointment(药膏) back home." Niuniu delivers(传递) her father's messages at the shop in her sweet childish (声音) and with rich body language, always making the guests laugh or smile.

Niuniu  (开始) learning sign language from her parents at the age of two and began helping at the shop when she was four. As a kindergartenera, she works at the shop after kindergarten hours and on holidays.

"She is always happy, (活泼的;生气勃勃的) and outgoing," said the neighbours and the school teachers.

"Dad taught me to be diligent(勤奋的)," Niuniu explained. In her mind, her parents are like superheroes who look after the family and her though they can't hear or speak. "My dad is (不同的) from other people,but he is the best for me," she added.

The Chinese knot is a type of national handicraft with a long history. It developed in the Tang and Song dynasties and  popular in the Ming and Qing dynasties. The Chinese knot has now become a colourful craft and stayed away from   original practical use.

In Chinese, the word"knot"   reunion(团聚), friendliness, warmthy marriage, love, etc. In addition, the word"knot" has the same meaning as"lucky and happy", so the Chinese knot is often used to express good  like happiness, prosperity and love.

 the needs of modern life, the Chinese knot has different products, for example, large tapestries(挂毯), big hangings and car hangings.

The eleven-year old Australian schoolgirl Tilly Williams has broken a world distance running record. She beat other girls who were eight years older than 1 to run 5,000m in just 17minutes and 22.7 seconds. She beat the previous(先前的) record by 19 seconds, making her the 2 distance runner under the age of 19 across 60 countries.

When some of her friends told her about the international record, Tilly decided to have a 3 while competing at the SA State Championships.

Tilly started running in 2021 4 she joined her school's cross-country team. Since then, she has run two to

three times a week with her 5 , Mark Williams.

Tilly said she has been 6 by other runners and her favourite book character, Roa ld Dahl's Matilda. "Icould really related to (认同) the main character Matilda 7 she set herself goals and really worked hard to achieve them," she said.

Tilly's dad Mark said he was very 11 of his daughter.

Relationships are important for kids and can have a great influence on their development at home and at school.Relationship skills, such as communication, teamwork and the ability to solve problems, are valuable. 

As kids grow, the need for communication skills becomes increasingly important. Communication with family members can be difficult when kids are young. Teach them how to use their words rather than act out physically.For example, say sorry if someone feels hurt by something you said or did.

Encourage kids to know what they can do and what they need when working with others. Kids who love to have fun may motivate (激励) their friends through a difficult task, and they may need a friend who can help organise a task. When kids understand their own skills and what they need from others, they' ll be able to work together with many more people.

Kids may think peers(同龄人) who do things differently are"bad" —— which isn't true. So encourage them to talk about similarities and differences among their friends. Although peer pressure can make them feel uncomfortable and even cause trouble, sometimes peer pressure can be positive when it encourages children to take safety risks and move out of their comfort zone.

All in all, kids need parents, teachers, and other caring adults to help them learn how they can build healthy relationship skills now and for a lifetime.

As humans set their sights on deep space exploration, the moon became a stone, with countries hoping to build lunar bases to support such missions.

To solve the"lunch" problem, scientists have been exploring the possibility of growing plants on the moon. 

A new study by Chinese scientists has found that bacteria(细菌) in the soil from the earth could offer a solution.

Researchers from China Agricultural University tested five species of bacteria on a material that stimulated(模拟) lunar soil. Within a period of 10 to 21 days, three of the bacteria species had doubled their amount of phosphorus content(磷含量), a key element for plant growth. They then grew model plants in the lunar soil with these three bacteria species. They found that the plants had longer stems and roots after six days of growth compared with those grown without the bacteria. The plants also had heavier and wider clusters(簇) of leaves after24 days of growth. Besides, levels of chlorophyll(叶绿素) in the model plants were about twice as much as that of those grown without bacteria.

"The study results are very important for future long-term stays on the moon," the study's lead researchers said. The earth's bacteria may help astronauts make better use of lunar resources, such as creating lunar greenhouses.

In their follow-up research, they hope to experiment with real lunar soil and grow crops like rice, corn and potatoes. Since the duration of space missions is increasing, carrying all food supplies to space becomes unsustainable. So, "space planting" becomes very important.

During the Shenzhou XI mission, astronauts managed to grow lettuce, from sowing to harvest. In the later missions, the"space farmers" have successfully grown wheat, rice, thale cress, scallions and cherry tomatoes.These"space gardens" provide astronauts with not only food but also more oxygen and water.

Traditional Chinese painting has its special materials and tools, including brush pens, inks and pigment (颜料), xuan paper, silk and different kinds of ink slabs(砚台).

According to different classification (分类) standards, traditional Chinese painting can be divided into the following groups:

1. Techniques

According to the painting techniques, traditional Chinese painting can be divided into two styles: xieyi style and gongbi style. Xieyi, or freehand, is marked by exaggerated(夸张的) forms and freehand brushwork. Gongbi,or careful, is characterized by close attention to detail and fine brushwork. Freehand painting makes shapes and shows rich brushwork and ink techniques.

2. Forms

The main forms of traditional Chinese painting are the hanging scroll (画卷), album of paintings, fan surface and long horizontal(水平的) scroll. Hanging scrolls are usually hung on the wall. In an album of paintings the artist paints on a certain size of xuan paper and then binds (装订) a number of paintings into an album, which is convenient for store. Folding fans and round fans are made of bamboo sticks and paper or silk. The long horizontal scroll is also called a hand scroll and is usually less than 50 centimetres high but maybe up to 100 meters long.

3. Subjects

Traditional Chinese painting can be classified as figure painting, landscape painting and flower-and-bird painting. Landscapes are a main theme in traditional Chinese painting, mainly describing the natural scenery of mountains and rivers.

Landscape painting had already set up itself as an independent form of expression by the fourth century and gradually changed into two separate styles: blue-and-green landscapes using bright blue, green and red pigments;and ink-and-wash landscapes depending on bright brushwork and inks.

Traditional Chinese painting, poetry, handwriting, and seal engraving(篆刻) are necessary parts that enrich one another. "Painting in poetry and poetry in painting" has been a rule for excellent works. Inscriptions(题词)and seal impressions help explain the painter's ideas and feelings and also add beauty to the painting.

The Beijing Central Axis(中轴线) shows a group of buildings and archaeological(考古的) sites that follow the traditional Chinese way of planning a capital city. It has been added to the UNESCO (United Nations Educational,Scientific and Cultural Organization) World Heritage List, becoming China's 59th World Heritage Site.

Covering 7.8 kilometres north to south through the heart of Beijing, the layout(布局) of Beijing Central Axis includes 15 parts, with the Bell and Drum Towers at the northern end and Yongdingmen Gate at the southern end.The complex includes imperial palaces and gardens, sacrificial(祭祀的) buildings, ancient city management facilities(设施), national ceremonial (仪式的) and public buildings, and central axis road remains.

According to Lyu Zhou from Tsinghua University, there is a description of this way of planning cities in the Kaogong ji (《考工记》)(Book of Diverse Crafts), written before 221BC.

The book mentions"court in the front, market in the back", which matches the Forbidden City and the markets at the Bell and Drum Towers area. It also includes"an ancestral temple on the left, an altar of land and grain on the right", referring to the Imperial Ancestral Temple and the Altar of Land and Grain, located on the east and west sides of the Central Axis.

Construction of the Beijing Central Axis began in the 13th century and took shape in the 16th century. It has been refined over the past seven centuries and continues to influence Beijing's development today.

Chinese tradition of inclusion and diversity," Lyu added.
