My Best Friend

What is the best school trip you have ever taken?  (visit) museums or climbing mountains? Let's look at how students different countries take school trips. 

In UK, Students go to many great places on school trips. They pick up shells(贝壳)and oysters(牡蛎)on the seaside. They learn about literature (文学)in the theme park"Dickens World". Kids may go to a castle (城堡) (know) about history. They even go to wetlands (湿地) to see swans (天鹅)and ducks. They also take field trips to study geography. 

In Japan, cherry blossoms(樱花)bloom at the (begin) of April. This is the  (good) time of the year to take a trip. Kids have picnic lunches, sing and dance   the trees. They also go boating around the lakes and climb the mountains. Some kids even have fun (walk) in hot spring.  there is rain, don't worry. They will go to a museum. 

In China, kids often take school trips to parks, museums or mountains. Outward hound (拓展训练) trips (be) very popular now. Students can learn about survival skills(生存技能)and teamwork during these trips. 

One day, a butterfly (蝴蝶) named Mia flew into a school and sat on a flower. Mia saw some students playing a game together and thought: "How nice would it be if I could play with other butterflies?  What a pity (遗憾)!"

One day, a little mouse was running along when he happened to run across the paws (爪子) of a big sleeping lion. This woke the lion and the lion did not like to be woken up before he was ready!

The lion was very angry at being disturbed (打扰), and he grabbed the mouse in his big paw. He was just about to swallow (吞) him when the mouse cried out "Please, kind sir, I didn't mean to disturb you. If you will let me go, I will be grateful (感激的) to you forever. And if I can, I will help you someday. "

The lion laughed a big laugh. How, he thought, could such a little creature as a mouse ever help so great a creature as a lion? All the same, the lion decided to let the mouse go. 

Not long after, the mouse was running along when he heard a great roaring nearby. He went closer to see what the trouble was, and there he saw the lion, caught in hunter's net. The mouse remembered his promise to the lion, and he began gnawing (咬) the ropes of the net, and kept gnawing until he had made a hole big enough so that the lion could get free.

Today is World Mental Health Day. It is my honor to talk about

This year marks  80th anniversary of the victory of the Chinese People's War of Resistance against Japanese Aggression(侵略) and the World Anti-Fascist War. Many works  this history are being shown, including films, plays and dances. Among them, the movie Dead to Rights (catch) a lot of attention since it was on. 

The movie is set against the background of the 1937 Nanjing Massacre(大屠杀). It tells a story about ordinary people in Nanjing. To stay (live), a group of Chinese people hide inside a photo studio. To survive, they have to help a Japanese military photographer develop films. When processing the photos, they find horrifying(恐怖的) scenes of the Japanese (army) violence against unarmed people in the city. The group decides they must let the world know the truth of the Nanjing Massacre,  they secretly keep the films and risk their lives to get them out  (safe). 

Director Shen Ao said the reason  he made the film is that few people know how these important photos  (save). Dead to Rights is more than just a movie. It reminds people never to forget our painful history and  (cherish) peace. 

Imagine you are going to give a speech the next day. The night before, you spend a lot of time thinking about the possible mistakes you might make. 

Overthinking means thinking about the same thought again and again, analyzing (分析) the simplest situations or events too much. 

 The primitive mind will always see things in the worst possible light. Our brains are always looking for threats, to make a plan to deal with those threats and keep us safe. 

Overthinking can be helpful because it helps us look at a problem from every possible angle and get ready for what might happen.  What's more, overthinking might create problems with how you get along with others. As you think the worst, you might misunderstand their intentions (意图). 

So, instead of sitting and thinking about a problem again and again, you can distract (转移注意力) yourself a bit. 

Also, when you find yourself overthinking, challenge these thoughts.  It can be hard at first, but realizing that you are overthinking can help you make a change. 

The Golden Snub-nosed Monkey (金丝猴) is a special kind of monkey that mainly lives high up in the mountains in China, Vietnam and Burma. They have a flat nose that points up, which is really two nostrils (鼻孔). This helps them breathe well in the thin air up high in the mountains. Their fur is golden and very thick, which not only keeps them warm in the cold mountain weather but also helps them go well with their forest homes. 

These monkeys like to live together in groups with a big, strong male monkey as their leader. The leader protects the group and guides them to food. They communicate with each other through sounds and body movements. 

Golden Snub-nosed Monkeys spend most of their time in the trees. They love to climb trees and jump from branch to branch. They are very good at moving around in the trees. They eat mostly plants like leaves and fruits, but they also eat insects and small animals when available. Sadly, these animals are not common to see because of human activities. Many trees are cut down every year. We need to help protect these monkeys and their homes. 

These monkeys are very beautiful and important for the mountains. They are a symbol of nature's beauty and a reminder of our duty to protect the environment. By learning about them and helping to keep their homes safe, we can make sure that people in the future can also see these wonderful animals that live in the mountains. 

 "Wow, you are so cool!" What kind of person would you say this to? 

In the past century, "cool" has become richer in meaning. It is now not only a word, but a style and even a life philosophy. 

In the 1930s, being "cool" became a top word of praise in US slang (习语). Back in the day, it was cool to stay calm and be wise. 

According to Joel Dinerstein, a professor at Tulane University in the US, today's "cool" is all about being caring. To be cool is to know and care about what is happening in the world, according to his students. Now, a person is cool if they have a say on social or political issues (政治问题), such as climate change. 

A study by researchers at the University of Arizona in the US found the key to being "cool" lies in the will to follow one's own path in life. Cool people choose their own path no matter what others think. This trend was also seen in a 2017 survey done by Google. The results showed that teenagers thought of stars who do charity work and keep real as the "coolest". 

So, what caused this change? The answer lies with the younger generation and the world they are growing up in. In the US, for example, Gen Zers often come from different races and care less about gender norms (性别规范), according to the news website Quartz. Also, with the growing use of social media, their ideas travel faster and farther. 

Do you know who was described as "superhuman" by the great inventor and astronomer Galileo? It was Archimedes who solved the king's problem of the golden crown while taking a bath. He was perhaps one of the most outstanding scientists in the world. He was a  mathematician, physicist, engineer, weapon (武器) designer and inventor. He was wise in philosophy, active in mathematics and physics. He was also recognized as one of the finest engineers of his time. He was born on the island of Sicily in the city of Syracuse around the year 287 BC and died in 212 BC. 

Archimedes showed great love for mathematics. He made many discoveries. For example, he determined the exact value of pi. He invented and developed methods similar to calculus (微积分) and used them to find the area of a circle and an accurate estimation (估计值) of the value of pi!

Today he is regarded as one of the greatest mathematicians in history. Archimedes used his mathematical skills and talents to create useful inventions. One of his most famous inventions is called the Archimedes' Screw. It was a device that could lift water to higher levels. One of its first uses was to pump water out from a leaking ship. It is still used today in some places to move water from low places to high places. This invention influenced Leonardo da Vinci as he worked on developing the functioning flying machine. 

Archimedes' intellectual curiosity and achievements to mathematics, in general, would go on to encourage other mathematicians as well. Most of his achievements were by far ahead of his time. Archimedes was in deed a genius.
