Growing up with Reading

Long ago, some fishermen set out to cross the sea in their ship. One of them brought his pet monkey along for the long journey.

When they were far out at sea, a terrible storm broke their ship. Everyone fell into the sea, and the monkey was going to die. Suddenly a dolphin appeared and picked him up.

They soon reached an island and the monkey came down from the dolphin's back. The dolphin asked the monkey, "Do you know this place?" The monkey replied, "Yes, I do. The king on the island is my father, so you must treat me very well."

"That's a lie," the dolphin thought, because he knew no one lived on the island. The dolphin said, "Well, well, so you are a prince (王子)! Now you can be a king!" The monkey asked, "How can I be a king?"

As the dolphin started swimming away, he answered, "That is easy. As you are the only animal on this island, you will certainly be the king!" In the end, the monkey died on the island alone. Remember that we should be honest in our life.

In Chinese culture, there are some stories about the moon. This story is one of  (they). It is about Wu Gang and a bay tree(月桂树). 

Wu Gang was a woodman. He wanted immortality(永生),  he didn't try hard enough to learn the magic. 

The Emperor got angry with him because  his attitude. He wanted to punish Wu Gang. Later on, the Emperor  (come) up with an idea. He planted a huge bay tree on the moon. Then he said to Wu Gang, "If you can cut it down, you will become immortal."

Wu Gang thought this was his chance to  (gain) immortality. He was confident because he was good at  (cut) down trees. He took out his ax(斧子) and went to  moon. 

However, the Emperor had given the bay tree some magic. The tree could heal itself at once after Wu Gang chopped it! Wu Gang didn't believe his  (eye). As a result, Wu Gang  (can) never cut the tree down. 

Today, people still believe the obvious(明显的) shadow on the moon was  (make) by the huge bay tree. Can you see the shadow on the moon?
