Last week, our chemistry teacher asked us to do an experiment with our teammates. However, as the flaw (瑕疵) caused bigger mistakes, I felt increasingly a of not telling the truth. Finally, I made a firm d: to speak up in the meeting. I clearly pointed out the flaw and s my improvement ideas. My teammates listened carefully, and we worked together to make some changes for the plan. Surprisingly, we solved the problem efficiently. This experience taught me that a difficulties only makes them worse; the courage to face them is the key to overcoming challenges.

Interviewer:
With me in the studio is Linda Meehan, who's recently returned from a six-month exchange programme with a family in the Netherlands. That's a long way from home.
Linda:
Well. None of my friends had been there or anything like that but my grandfather spent some time there when he was young and he said I should visit one day and I'd planned to do that as soon as I could. So when I had the opportunity to go to Europe, it seemed like the obvious place to go.
Interviewer:
But you were only 15.
Linda:
Well, the family I stayed with in the Netherlands were really kind and I wasn't lonely because I shared the room with one of their daughters. She helped me get used to my new routine. The only thing that was hard was the one-kilometre bike ride to school every day! I enjoyed it in the summer but it was terrible in winter.
Interviewer:
And what was the school like?
Linda:
It was OK because there were a lot of classes in English. The school was very modern and much bigger than most schools in Australia. The library was fantastic and they also had a lot more science labs than my school at home.
Interviewer:
What about the students?
Linda:
Oh, they were really friendly. They gave me lots of advice about places I should visit. They'd all travelled a lot more than me, though no one had been to Australia. But what I found really strange was that they'd never thought about going away from their families for several months like me.
Interviewer:
So is this an experience you would recommend?
Linda:
Oh, definitely! I benefited a lot from the programme. And I think six months was the right amount of time. I needed that amount of time to learn the language. But after six months I really needed to see my parents.
A. Some of them couldn't understand how I could do that.
B. Was there anything you found difficult about living in a foreign country?
C. I was so happy to see them again.
D. And they gave me projects to do when there were subjects in Dutch I couldn't understand.
E. Why did you choose your exchange programme there?

5、Just like any relationship, best friendships depend on trust, promise, respect and interests. When any of these elements is missing, the friendship will be hard to go on. If the trust is totally broken, you may not be able to forgive him or her. Sometimes a friendship ends because either you or your friend gets tired of putting the heart into it. This can happen when one of you finds a new friend or even a new hobby that takes up much time. Or, perhaps you find the relationship is always going in an unhealthy way and you want some distance. Other times, you simply change and want to leave each other. Sure, it seems sad at the time, but it's completely normal. Not all friendships are meant to last forever. So, what should you do if something like this happens to you? Read on for some friendly advice.
Whatever the reason you're breaking up with your best friend, always remember that he or she was once super important to you. Take the time to sit down privately and tell him/her what's going on and why. Don't send him or her an unpleasant e-mail or just start ignoring (不理睬) him or her. In fact, maybe he or she has known there's a problem and would be willing to have a heart-to-heart chat. If you're not sure about wanting an end forever, you could suggest you two take a break from each other. If, after a while, you realize why you became the best friends in the beginning, you can try getting back to your former behaviors. Whatever you do, be honest about your feelings while having respect for his or hers. And if you both agree the BFF thing is over, make sure not to be enemies.
(1)、Which is not the basic elements of friendship?A、Promising to do anything. B、Showing respect. C、Believing in friends. D、Having common interests.(2)、What is NOT the usual cause of ending a friendship?A、Getting tired of putting your heart into each other. B、Finding a new hobby that takes up much time. C、Realizing the relationship going in an unhealthy way. D、Living too far away from each other.(3)、What should you do when breaking up with your best friends?①Remember his or her once being important to you.
②Try to have a heart-to-heart chat with him or her.
③Be honest and respectful to each other.
④Send an unpleasant e-mail and ignore him or her.
⑤Suggest not getting along with each other for a while.
A、①②③④ B、②③④⑤ C、①②③⑤ D、①③④⑤(4)、What can be the best title for this passage?A、Basic elements of friendship. B、Advice on friendship. C、What to do with friendship in trouble? D、When to be friends or enemies? -
6、My 20-year-old daughter, Ann, living in Philadelphia, sent me a message the other day. "I need socks and shampoo." She was actually asking me to prepare those things for her, but I thought she was playing a cell phone game. I decide not to be a helicopter (直升机) mother, because experience as a mother and professor has taught me how badly that can result. Instead, I prefer a more hands-off way. From the time Ann turned 16, I don't want to know her work and life schedule any longer.
But that's not what I see at Drexel University where I teach. Most of my students talk to their parents three times a day or more. One student's mother called her son because she didn't hear from him for a few days. The son was in the library so he whispered "hello". The mother doubted that he was drinking, and insisted on asking him to take a picture of himself. Holding a newspaper with that day's date, the son had to take a photo of himself and sent it to his mother in order to prove that he wasn't telling a lie.
I always think that my students should depend on themselves. I tell them that I will not check whether they miss classes and finish homework or not. Because they are independent thinkers and they should take responsibility for their own choices.
But their parents don't treat them like me. I know a mother. She puts her eyes on her son too much. She hopes he will walk by the camera so that she can know what he is doing. Another mother checks her son's credit card daily. However, I never do that. My daughters only come to me with important things when they need my decision. I think that's because I give them space.
Many parents try to find if their kids are hiding from them. But we have to learn to respect boundaries (界限), even when technology is so powerful now. So I am going to do my best not to be a helicopter parent.
(1)、The underlined phrase "a helicopter mother" in Paragraph 1 means "________".A、a mother who treats the child as an independent being. B、a mother who pays close attention to their children. C、a mother who prefers a more hands-off way. D、a mother who gives her children space.(2)、Why does the author mention different ways of mothering?A、To show how responsible those mothers are. B、To show that mothers should make decisions for their children. C、To show that space is needed for children to become independent. D、To show that some helicopter mothers love their children so much.(3)、What's the attitude of the author towards helicopter parents?A、Agree. B、Neutral (中立). C、Disagree. D、Unknown.(4)、What will probably be discussed after the last paragraph?A、Advice on respect boundaries between parents and children. B、The powerful technologies for helicopter parents. C、The disadvantages of being helicopter parents. D、The advantages of being hands-off parents. -
7、Being compared to great people like Stephen Hawking and Albert Einstein is not something that happens to a common person. At the age of just 23, Sabrina Gonzalez Pasterski has already achieved many more goals than most of us ever will in our lifetime.
When she was only 14 years old, the Chicago girl made her own single-engine airplane by herself. Then at 16, she flew it across Lake Michigan, becoming the youngest person to ever fly her own plane. She recorded this two-year experience and put it on YouTube.
Completing her study in Illinois Mathematics and Science Academy (IMSA) in 2010, she entered Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
At first, she had to wait to be accepted into the school but once Professors Allen Haggerty and Earll Murman watched her video, they had no doubt. After just three years at MIT, she has already achieved the highest possible grade point—an average (平均) of 5.0.
She is now studying further at Harvard University, with full academic freedom (学术自由). Once again she is only 23 years old.
What's even more amazing is that she is no longer interested in building planes but has turned her attention to physics, namely black holes and how gravity has an effect on space and time—that is why she is being compared to Einstein and Hawking. And she records all of her work on her website Physicsgirl.
During an interview earlier this year she said, "Look on the bright side about what you believe you can do. When you're little, you say a lot of things about what you'll do or be when you're older—I think it's important not to forget those dreams. You must hold on to your dreams and have a strong will. Work hard and never give up. Your dreams will come true finally!"
(1)、Why does the writer mention Einstein and Hawking at the beginning?A、To remember the two scientists. B、To compare the two scientists. C、To bring out the main character. D、To introduce their achievements.(2)、What helps Pasterski get a chance to study at MIT?A、Her further study in Harvard. B、Her highest average grade point of 5.0. C、Her ability of making videos on YouTube. D、Her video of making and flying her plane.(3)、What is the right order of the events about Pasterski?a. Study at Harvard University.
b. Wait to be accepted by MIT.
c. Achieve an average of 5.0 grade point.
d. Finish her study in IMSA in 2010.
e. Make a single engine airplane alone.

8、The classroom was full of those of us who wanted to work on the school newspaper. I didn't write a lot, but working on the paper1 like fun. I liked the idea of being a reporter, interviewing my friends, and2 middle school events.
To be chosen, we had to turn in an example of our3. I wrote an article about the joys of summer, and showed it to my father, a talented poet. He read it and frowned (皱眉).
"It's okay," my father said, taking out a pencil. "But how about changing this sentence to..." And as a result, he rewrote the whole piece—without me, for I never said anything to4 him.
No surprise—his version was wonderful. He had a gift for language. It was so much better than my piece that I turned in his version instead of mine.
"Welcome to the Dundee School News." my teacher said to me. But before I could be5 about the news, he added, "Based on that excellent article you wrote about summer, I expect you to write an opinion article every week for the second page of the paper."
I was so surprised. I was unable to write at that level, but I couldn't tell the6 to the teacher, and I couldn't ask my father for help, either.
That term working on the paper was really painful. And my teacher expressed his7. "Can't you write something more like that first piece you wrote?" he said each time I turned in my article.
I couldn't, because at that age, I didn't have my father's ability and experience as a writer. Week after week, I tried hard, but my writing never8 the level of the first article.
At last, to my total shame, another student took my place. I9 that my father rewrote my first article himself, instead of trying to help me to improve it. But in my heart I knew it was my fault because I allowed him to do it.
Later, I did become a successful writer on my own. Looking back, I realized that the pain and shame of that school experience had a10 side. It taught me to depend on myself and be myself. So every day, I try to use my own words, find my own style and be my own best self. It feels great.

19、根据短文内容,按要求回答问题。
In Fujian, the Lunar New Year is celebrated in a truly special way called "You Shen" (God-Parade). This event is a cultural practice that includes religious belief, art, and community spirit.
During the New Year, Fujian people make statues of gods (神像), who are believed to bring good luck and protection. These statues are placed on beautifully decorated flower cars, which are then paraded (被游行) through the streets, creating an environment full of joy. What makes You Shen unique among all the Spring Festival celebrations is its deep spiritual connection—something other celebrations do not have. Usually, people don't only watch the parade but also take part in it, believing that they can get good luck and happiness in the coming year.
The tradition of You Shen dates back to ancient times when villagers carried statues of gods to ask for good farming and safety. Over the centuries, it has grown into a wonderful festival that marks the Lunar New Year in Fujian. More than a religious ritual (宗教仪式), You Shen symbolizes sharing hope. The god's journey through the streets is seen as a way to spread good luck to every home. Also, neighbors stay closer by working together to prepare for the parade.
For Fujian people, You Shen is a cultural treasure. It is known for connecting modern life with ancient wisdom, reminding people to value (重视) tradition and stay connected as a community. Even as times change, laughter and music during the ritual keep the tradition alive, filling people's hearts with warmth and hope for the future.
(1)、What does the cultural practice of You Shen involve?(2)、What does the underlined word "unique" probably mean?(3)、What helps neighbors stay closer according to the passage?(4)、Why is You Shen famous?(5)、How do people in your hometown always celebrate the Lunar New Year? -

Autumn has quietly arrived in Chengdu! Every year, osmanthus flowers (桂花) cover the whole city in soft golden color and strong sweet smells. The best part? You don't need to travel far or spend money. Just take the subway, and you can enjoy this natural gift of Chengdu.
First, visit the 1,600-year-old Daci Temple, a peaceful place in the busy city. Emperor Xuanzong of the Tang Dynasty named it. And thanks to him, it lived through a national temple destruction (破坏). Many osmanthus trees grow here. When the sun shines on the temple in early October, the small yellow flowers, red walls and ancient ginkgo (银杏) trees show a colorful world of beauty.
At Baihuatan Park, meet the "Osmanthus King"—a tree over 300 years old and so big that two people can't hug its trunk together. And it's still alive. Every autumn, you can still see flowers falling like a golden "waterfall" from the tree. It's a popular place with Hanfu lovers and local elderly people.
Next, walk through Guihua Alley, next to Kuanzhai Alley. It was called "Dangui Hutong" in the Qing Dynasty and has a 300-year history. Now, the government has planted many osmanthus trees there. In late autumn, when they are full of small yellow flowers, the street will turn into a dream-like road. Including the real trees, you can also see some osmanthus tree pictures on the building walls!
Finally, Wangjiang Tower Park connects osmanthus with poetry (诗). Most people know the place because of the poet Xue Tao and the bamboo forests. But few know it's also great for enjoying osmanthus in late autumn. Next to Xue Tao Memorial Hall, there are osmanthus trees. A light breeze brings sweet smells and flowers fall like rain. Light-colored dresses with a traditional Chinese style are perfect here.
So why not invite your friends to enjoy the city's natural beauty someday? Breathe in the sweet air, walk under golden flowers, and feel Chengdu's autumn magic.
