When people say Chinese culture, we often think of paper cutting. Paper cutting is an art (形式) with a history of over 1,500 years in China. (传统的) paper-cut works used to be put on windows for decoration (装饰). That is why they are also called "window flowers". Normally, paper-cut works are (制作) of red paper, because red means good luck in Chinese culture. Today, people use paper-cuts more than ever. Sometimes, they even use them as gifts.

Paper-cut works are popular because of their (表达) of good wishes and hopes. (在……期间) the Spring Festival, for example, many people put up paper-cuts of the Chinese character "Fu" upside down on the door. They hope this can (带来) them good luck. At wedding ceremonies, you can always see paper-cuts of the character "Xi". It means that the newly married couple can enjoy (幸福) together.

Paper cutting has (发展) into different styles in different parts of China. The most (普通的；常见的) pictures are flowers, animals, and things about Chinese history.

In fact, it's easy to learn paper cutting. With a piece of paper and a pair of (剪刀), you can try to make your own paper-cuts. However, you need a lot of practice and creativity to become really good at it.

When I was a student, I was too shy to speak English in front of others. However, I knew that I needed my English skills. So, I developed some ways.

First, I tried to turn everything into speaking practice. When I watched English movies, I repeated the lines in them. I also the words and sentences people used in real-life, and tried to use them while talking with my classmates.

Then, I recorded myself when practicing speaking English. By listening to my recordings, I was able to know how quickly I spoke, whether I spoke and which words I had difficulty pronouncing well.

Finally, I practiced speaking English with my partners by sending them voice messages. That made me feel much. They couldn't see the expressions on my face, so they wouldn't know if I was nervous.

Maybe you think of yourself as a good friend, but are you really? If you're not sure, it's time to think about what makes a true friend.

Good friend is busy but still manages to make time for your friends. He does not see friendships as a waste of time, or something to pay attention to only when he needs a favour.

Always be ready to listen to what the other person is telling you, even if sometimes it makes you uncomfortable.

Nothing ends a friendship faster than abandoning (抛弃) a friend in need.

When it seems like no one in your life will tell you the truth, your friend will have your back.

A true friend doesn't gossip (说闲话) behind your back. When he doesn't agree with you, it's done in a respectful way that is meant for you both to come to an understanding.

Everyone stopped talking and stared (盯着) at him.
