  • 4、You might have your keys a second ago, and now they're just gone! Before you get upset, take a deep breath. Losing things is a part of life, but finding them doesn't have to be so hard. In this article, we'll teach you how to find lost objects (物品). With a little help from the experts, you may find those keys faster than you can say "lost".

If there's a place where you usually leave the missing object, start there. Maybe you forgot you put it back, or it's hidden under something in the near place. Either way, it's worth taking a look.

Sometimes, thinking about the last time you saw or used the object can help you. Consider everything you can remember—even something as silly as what you were eating or listening to could be helpful!

Follow your memory to where you last remember using or seeing the lost object. Sit or stand in your exact position when you saw or had it last, and look around. Continue going through the actions of your memory until you find the object.

It's possible that someone else saw you with this object before you lost it. Reach out to a friend or family member in the same space as you and ask if they've seen the missing object.

If you've lost this object while you were out and about, check to see if the store, building, or area has a lost and found. Sometimes, you can get lucky, and someone else will find your lost object and turn it into a front desk. Schools, stores, parks, stadiums, and theaters always have lost and founds.

    A. Ask for help from friends or family.

    B. Double-check where the object usually is.

    C. Find a lost and found box if you're in a public space.

    D. Look in the place where you last saw or had the object.

    E. Close your eyes and picture when you had the object last.

    F. Make important objects stand out so you won't easily lose them.

  • 5、Keep in mind that wanting to sound like a native (本土的) English speaker is a very common idea. The largest groups of native English speakers are from America, the UK, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, South Africa and India. And within those countries, accents (口音) are widely different. There isn't one "correct" accent among them.

But can you change your accent? Actually, the sounds you hear as a baby quickly become locked into your brain because you consider them to be the most important ones for communication. Finally, your brain decides that you've learned all the sounds you need to know, and you start using those sounds as you learn to speak. All other sounds that have nothing to do with your language are unnoticed. Although children are usually able to change their accents easily until around twelve years old, things get difficult after that. The older you are when you learn a new language, the harder it is to perfect the accent.

But it's not impossible! Just remember that changing your accent requires a lot of effort—you need to practice for at least an hour every day. There are some ways that can help you achieve that faster. As we mentioned above, the reason why it's difficult to sound like a native speaker is that you can't pronounce some sounds that are deficient in your own language. Develop your skills with different kinds of listening activities. So you can begin to correctly pronounce English sounds and know how they are different from those in your mother language. Watching English TV shows can also be helpful.

In order to truly change your accent, you also need to learn the specifics (细节) of pronunciation. Whenever you're doing pronunciation practice, take it a little slower than you normally would. Try to pronounce every sound to get your mouth and tongue (舌头) used to the correct positions. Sure, the goal is to speak at a natural speed—and you'll get there!

(1)、Why does the writer mention children's language learning?
A、To provide examples of different accents. B、To show how to communicate with native speakers. C、To explain why changing the accent is challenging. D、To introduce a method of developing learning interest
(2)、What does the underlined word "deficient" in Paragraph 3 probably mean?
    A、Useful. B、Absent. C、Strange. D、Popular.
(3)、What does the writer consider helpful in achieving a native-like accent?
A、Picking up listening and pronunciation skills. B、Speaking at a natural speed from the beginning C、Joining language programs with native speakers. D、Practicing pronunciation for at least thirty minutes every day.
(4)、What does the writer probably want to point out in paragraph 1? (no more than 10 words)

  • 7、There are few things in life that we take for granted (认为……理所当然) more than toilet paper. We only really think about it when we run out of it. Although humans have had the need to clean themselves since the beginning, the toilet paper we use today is a recent invention.

Before there was paper of any kind, early humans used natural materials such as leaves or animal fur to clean themselves. The ancient Romans used a sponge (海绵) tied to a stick to do this. The earliest recorded use of paper for personal cleaning dates back well over 2,500 years to ancient China. By the 14th century, a form of toilet paper had been used in most Chinese families.

It was not until the 1850s that the Western world got its first mass—produced toilet paper. It was invented by American inventor Joseph Gayetty. Before his invention, people used any kind of paper that they happened to have on hand, including newspapers and pages from magazines. With the rise of flush toilets (抽水马桶) in the 20th century, toilet paper got even more popularity since heavier forms of paper often caused trouble.

Even though toilet paper is easy to use today, billions of people worldwide still depend on other methods for cleaning themselves because of cultural practices. For example...
