Waste sorting is also important. By sorting waste into different groups like recyclables,kitchen waste, and harmful waste, we can reduce pollution. Sorting also helps communities.Cleaner streets and less burning rubbish mean cleaner air for everyone.

When 16-year-old Amy first heard about Maoming Bo' ai Public Welfare Association,a charity in Guangdong Province, she didn't know much about it except that it helped people in need. One weekend, her school organized a volunteer activity with the association, and Amy decided to join. She hoped to do something meaningful instead of staying at home.

Founded in 2019, Bo' ai Public Welfare Association has a simple mission(任务):"Give Love to society and warm people's hearts with true feelings." When Amy arrived at the charity's office,she met Ms Lin, a volunteer who had served for three years. Ms Lin explained that the association did many things — collecting and distributing daily necessary things to poor families, caring for the elderly living alone and helping sick children who can't afford to get medical treatment.

Amy joined the"Monthly Kindness" program. That Saturday, she and other volunteers visited an old lady named Grandma Zhang. Grandma Zhang lived alone in a small house and could hardly move around. Amy helped clean the house, while other volunteers fixed the broken window and prepared a hot meal for her. When Grandma Zhang held Amy's hand and said,"You are kinder than my own relatives." Amy felt warm feeling in her heart. She realized that small acts of care could bring great comfort to others.

Over the past six years, Bo' ai Public Welfare Association has helped more than 3,100 people through various programs. It has raised over 230,000 yuan for 32 seriously sick patients and built a36-square-meter office building to support its work. Now, Amy has been a regular volunteer for a year. She said, "Volunteering here isn't just about helping others. I' ve learned the value of kindness and made many like-minded friends. It's one of the most rewarding experiences in my life."

Animals have played an important role in scientific research for a long time. Frogs helped us learn how cells(细胞)work. Pigs helped develop CT scans. But animals arc not always perfect models for human beings.

One new way is artificial intelligence(AI). AI shows its great power in speeding up or replacing(代替)steps in scientists' work. In one study. an AI model checked 190.000 chemicals to see if they were harmful, The result was 87 percent correct. It did a better job than repeated animal tests. In another test, scientists used AI to find out how rats would react(反应)to new drugs. The result was almost the same as real animal tests-but no animals were used. In the past, a similar test needed over 8,000 rats. In the future, AI may help test medicines for humans directly.

Another new way is "organs-on-a-chip"(器官芯片)technology. Scientists can make a man-made lung or a mini brain on a chip. These tiny organs work like real ones by using human cells. So they are more dependable than animal models for medicine testing.

Will we stop using animals in research completely? Maybe not soon. But scientists are trying their best to reduce the number of research animals.
