My name is Jane. I worked as a volunteer in 2025 because I wanted to do something to help others. I called some charity (慈善) shops to ask if they needed volunteers. Although I didn't mind where I volunteered, I was glad that one of the Sue Ryder shops said yes. Sue Ryder was a charity very close to my heart because volunteers from Sue Ryder once cared for my dad in the hospital. 

Volunteering in the shop helped me know what shop work was like. I also found how important the public were. Lots of people gave us things they didn't need for the shop to sell. In this way Sue Ryder raised money to care for people with illnesses. I always left the charity shop late because I knew how important the work of Sue Ryder was. Another thing I enjoyed about volunteering was talking with other volunteers in the shop. They were friendly and helpful. I really improved my teamwork skills by volunteering.  

I worked in the shop from late April to early August. I learned many things from it and I'm sure they will be useful in the future. 

When we volunteer, we play a role in improving others' lives. At  same time, we are helping ourselves.

Since last summer vacation, I  (volunteer) at an organization called Cradles to Crayons. It gives away things such as clothes and shoes to  (child) in need. 

Last summer vacation I spent two hours a day  (help) choose and pack things there. I quite liked the work. When volunteering there, I  (meet) some of the nicest people. They were always happy  ready to help. I enjoyed talking and working  them.

At the end of each day, the volunteer leader would tell  (we) how many children we helped that day. I was surprised  (see) how a small act could make a big difference to someone's life. I got a strong feeling of satisfaction from this.

My volunteer experience at Cradles to Crayons also taught me to be thankful for the things I have in life—food, clean water, clothes, family... I can get them   (easy), but some people have many difficulties, so it's not easy for them to own those things. We should value what we have.

Are you looking for a new way to raise money for charity?  Don't give up. There are several ways to support your favourite charity.

How about organizing a car wash? People with cars wash their cars by themselves or ask someone else to do it.  Then you can get some money for your charity. When we did it, we had an amazing time! At first, some of us were worried about getting wet or dirty. It was true, but we also had fun. 

On the other hand, if you don't feel like getting wet or messy but have some musical talent, how about organizing a street concert? Street musicians can make a lot of money, and so can you. If you've got the talent and courage (勇气) , you can play in front of the audience  (观众) . You just need to find a suitable place and practise for a few hours with your friends first.
