As we all know, trees are very important in our daily lives. We can't live in the world without trees.

Trees are very important for our environment. Each b of a tree grows to support life, giving homes to birds and animals. Trees help us by t in carbon dioxide and giving out oxygen, making the air clean and fresh. Trees also stop soil from washing away and keep nature healthy. When we borrow things from trees, like wood or fruit, we should t  them kindly and take care of them. By planting trees and stopping people from cutting them down, we can p our planet. Trees give us so much without asking for anything in return. Their s work shows us how important it is to care for nature. Let's do our part to keep trees safe. 

Guinea pigs (豚鼠)  are lovely pets.  To keep guinea pigs healthy and happy, here is something for their owners.

Get the right cage. You should allow at least 7.5 square feet (平方英尺)  of cage space for one guinea pig. But a bigger cage would be even better. A good cage is important for their health.

Guinea pigs love to eat and they enjoy having fresh vegetables and fruit. Don't give them any meat because it is not good for their health. Besides, guinea pigs drink a lot of water. . 

Spend time with them. 

We need to make sure that we are using the forests and trees sustainably (可持续地) , and then they will be around us forever.

Luckily, every one of us can do something. Planting trees is an easy way to help. We can also live in a way that creates zero waste in our everyday lives. We just need to practise the "3 Rs"—Reduce, Reuse and Recycle!

Reduce

When we reduce the amount of products we use and buy, fewer trees are cut down to make new products. If we take care of the things that we already have, and repair them when they are broken, we don't need to buy more.

Reuse

Every time we reuse an item, fewer replacement (代替) items are needed. This helps to protect important natural resources (自然资源) . It also reduces waste because fewer items are thrown away.

Recycle

When we recycle products like paper, we stop new trees from being cut down. About 1/3 of the wood from trees that are cut down is used to make paper and paper board.

If we can reduce, reuse and recycle, we can make that amount much smaller! By recycling and buying products with recycled material, we're protecting our forests.

Trees are very important in our daily lives. They take in carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) and give us oxygen. Trees make our environment beautiful with their different colours, flowers and shapes and they provide us with shade. What are the parts of a tree?

Roots

All trees have roots, which have two important jobs： they anchor (固定)  the trees to the ground so that they can stand upright (直立的) , and they take in water and minerals from the soil.

Trunks (树干)

The trunk of a tree carries the branches and takes water and minerals from the soil to the rest of the tree.

Branches andtwigs

Branches grow out from the trunk and have twigs at the tips. They also take water and minerals from the trunk to the leaves.

Leaves

Using sunlight, leaves produce food for the whole tree. Leaves use energy from the Sun to take in carbon dioxide. And trees produce oxygen for us. This is very important, as all animals and humans need oxygen to live. 

A lot of research is being done to study whether (是否)  plants can think and feel like humans and animals. Plants have a much longer history on Earth than all the other living things. So being able to survive on this planet must have the abilities to think, feel, remember and communicate. Plants are very clever. They can not only think but also react (回应)  in a suitable manner.

Can Plants Feel?

For many years, lots of environmentalists, ecologists, and even gardeners have been claiming (声称)  that plants have an ability to feel things around them like humans and animals. Laboratory experiments along these lines have shown that this is true.

One of the most extraordinary (非凡的)  abilities of plants is their sense of smell. Yes, they are able to "smell" their surroundings. This is one of the most important senses that plants have.

Touch

Plants also have amazing tactile (能触知的) senses. Do you know the mimosa (含羞草) ? It's known as the ‘touch-me-not' tree. It will close its leaves even on the slightest touch.

Sounds

There is no doubt that plants are very sensitive (敏感的) to different kinds of sounds. There have been a large number of experiments, which show that music has an effect on plant growth.

★It has dark green leaves and white flowers which have a refreshing fragrance (提神的香味) .

★These fruits grow and are ready to be picked at the start of winter.

★It is a hardy tree that can tolerate (忍受)  cold climates and temperature below 15 °F or even lower.

★The satsuma tree grows well in full sun. At least 10 hours a day of bright sunlight is needed if you want it to grow well.

★The tree grows up to an average height of 18-20 feet and produces fruit for many years.

Many people think that Johnny Appleseed was a fictional (虚构的)  character. But in fact, he was a1 person. Johnny Appleseed was a legendary (传奇的)  American. He planted 2 trees.

Johnny Appleseed was born in Leominster, Massachusetts on September 26,1774.His real 3 was John Chapman, but he was called Johnny Appleseed because of his love for growing apple trees.

Apples were 4 to the early settlers (移民者)  of North America. They offered something different in daily5 . They were easy to grow and store (储存) . And they could be 6 into other products, like apple butter and apple juice.

Appleseed owned many nurseries (苗圃)  in Ohio, Pennsylvania, Kentucky, Illinois and Indiana. He 7 his beloved apple trees there. Although he was a very successful man, Appleseed lived a8 life. It is said that as Johnny travelled, he9 his cooking pot on his head as a hat!

Johnny died at the age of 70, and he was buried in Fort Wayne, Indiana. He had 10 50 years growing apple trees and travelling to spread his trees around his country.

Lin Yunxi was born in 1956 in a town in Wuxi, Chongqing. He1 life as a farmer. But in the 1970s, he decided to work for the local forestry bureau (当地林业局)  and began 2 trees.

In order to heal the barren mountains (治理荒山) , in October 2017, 3 government of Wuxi County asked about 200 people 4 plant trees. Lin Yunxi was one of them.

As 5 known to all, planting trees on rocky cliffs (岩石峭壁) is not only difficult but dangerous. To plant trees on rocky cliffs,6 team of 65 people is divided into (把……分成)  smaller teams of three to four people. The youngest one in each team was lowered to the planting site (被下放到种植点)  to do the 7 work. After almost twelve weeks of hard work, Lin Yunxi and his team finished planting more 8 60,000 young trees on rocky cliffs.

"The longer I plant trees, the 9 my love for forests becomes. If I can't plant trees in the future,I'll make sure that young people know about their importance," said Lin Yunxi.

Now the trees on the rocky cliffs grow 10 . With trees everywhere, the rocky cliffs look green and beautiful.

My Favourite Animal

I am Li Hua. I study at Hongxing Middle School. I want to introduce my favourite animal to you.

I'm thinking of an animal. It can be black and white, but it is not a zebra. It has a long neck, but it is not a giraffe. It has lots of feathers (羽毛), but it is not a penguin. Can you guess what this animal is? Well, it is an ostrich.

The ostrich is not a small bird. It is very big. In fact, it is the biggest bird in the world. It is also a very tall bird. Male ostriches are about 2.5 metres tall. How heavy are ostriches? Let me tell you. Male ostriches are about 135 kg!

Lots of students are interested in the ostrich. They think it is a funny bird. It looks very funny because it has a very long neck. How long is its neck? Well, it's about 1 metre long!

Last year, a group of elephants did something different—they started to go north! After (month) of travelling, elephants made it 500 km away from their home in Xishuangbanna, Yunnan.

"Asian elephants often stay in  same place," said Chen Mingyong, an animal scientist. "It (be) very rare (少) to see them travel such a long way."

(science) are still not sure why elephants are doing this. Some think that's   they want to find better food. Some think there are more elephants, so their old homes may not have much food them. Others think elephants are  (interest) in the vegetables, crops and fruits in the north. As we all know, elephants are so smart that they can (find) their favourite food easily.

During their long journey, the elephants have caused economic losses (经济损失) of nearly 6,800,000 yuan. But because elephants are also in (dangerous), we need (save) them. People have used seventy - six police cars to keep them safe and give food to keep them away from cities and towns.

Do you like animals? Do you often go to the zoo? There're different kinds of animals in the zoo. We see the zoo keepers and they feed the animals food to eat. They don't have to 1  food by themselves. They just eat, walk and sleep all day. So many of 2  may think that the animals there3 happy and lucky.

But most of them are sad. Why? They're 4  free. They have their family. They want to go home. And they also miss their mothers.

Dogs are our friends. They are always with us on the earth.  Here are some reasons.

Dogs are smart and cute. Some of them are big and some are small, but they are all good at running. They are funny and they like to play with people.

 Whether we are happy or not, they are always with us. But for bad people or strangers (陌生人), they can be very scary.

 There are many kinds of dogs and most of them are useful to us. A sheep dog can help the farmers. A watch dog can keep our houses safe.  And a guide dog can help blind people walk. Pet dogs are our favourites. They are really cute and bring us much fun.

Dogs are great animals. We should love them.
