Do you find it hard to get out of bed in the morning during the winter? It's not surprising because the cold temperature makes us unwilling to leave the warmth of our beds. Remember you' re not alone.   But what else makes it so hard for us to get up in winter?

One big reason is that we get less sunlight. Some hormones(荷尔蒙) influence our sleep. For example, melatonin(褪黑素) makes us sleepy, while cortisol(皮质醇) makes us energetic. Sunlight helps us wake up. That's because it helps our bodies produce less melatonin and more cortisol.  

Besides, our habits may change when the days are colder and darker. We may tend to eat more sweet food, such as cakes and chocolate. What's worse, we don't exercise as much as we do in other seasons.  As a result, we may find it harder to get up early. 

No matter how our bodies change in winter, we need to get up. These methods may help:

Get a sunrise alarm clock. This kind of clock is designed to slowly light up your room like the sun does. This can help wake up your body when the alarm clock goes off. 

  This will make your room warm and comfortable when you get out of bed. This small step can make your mornings much more pleasant. 

Keep a glass of water by your bed. You can drink it when you wake up.   Drinking water in the morning also cleans your stomach and gives you energy for the day.

HORSE比赛的新规则

Mareya and Ollie are my best friends. They are both exercise fans, but they have 1 ideas about rules. Mareya follows rules strictly but Ollie doesn't.

What animal makes the best pets

The (big) shark in the world can be nearly 20 meters long. It (weight) about 20,000 kilos. A shark is a kind of fish. Their teeth always look (scare). Do you know a shark loses thousands of teeth in its lifetime?A shark has several rows of teeth and they keep growing. When one tooth is lost, tooth behind moves forward. A sharp spends about a day (make) its teeth replacement work smoothly. Sharks can sometimes hurt (they) because their teeth are so sharp. Sharks are very large. , they eat very little. A shark eats about 2% of its body weight each day. Sharks are dangerous animals. We once saw the news and movies that sharks attacked humans. fact, sharks (not attack) humans if they are full. Even so, we'd better not swim near them  sharks have a very good sense of smell. They can smell a drop of blood in 50 litres of sea water. 

Animals are our friends. We like many of them for different reasons. Among all of the animals, dogs stand out as the most popular ones. They can do many things to help us.  

Some dogs are great helpers.  For blind people, they can follow the orders and find the way to the places they want to go to. What's more, some dogs even work with doctors and offer help to sick children. These dogs make people feel safe and relaxed. 

Search and rescue dogs are common in the army.  Therefore, they are good at finding lost people who are in danger like a fire, an accident or an earthquake (地震). 

Herding dogs(牧羊犬)are important to people with sheep. These smart and hardworking dogs are trained to guide and protect the sheep.  They are common in some Western countries. 

Pet dogs win people's hearts very much.  They can help their owners look after their houses, take care of the baby or carry something when they shop. 

Dogs are helpful, loving, smart and always there for us. They make our lives better in so many ways. That's why we should love and take good care of them. 

Willie the parrot, saved the baby

The two-year-old baby, Hannah, was eating when something got stuck in her throat. Her mother was in the bathroom at the time. She suddenly heard the bird screaming (尖叫) and making noises with its wings. "Then he started saying ‘mama baby' over and over and over again until I came out," the mother said. "I saw the baby's face was blue. I quickly removed the food from her throat. My baby was saved but Willie was the real hero. " Willie later received an award for saving the baby's life!

Buddy, the dog, saved her owner

Buddy was a clever German shepherd (德国牧羊犬). When he was eight weeks old, Buddy came to live with Joe. Joe suffers from seizures (中风发作) that make him unable to move easily. Joe taught his new dog to do something around him, such as, to bring him the phone. Joe also trained Buddy how to call 91l when he started to experience the seizure. So when Joe had a really bad seizure, Buddy was the one who called for help and began making sounds into the phone. Emergency rescue (急救) workers arrived within minutes and found Joe. They took him to the hospital where he recovered. Joe later said, "Buddy's my world. He's my best friend, no doubt. He's always there,and I just hope I can be as good to him as he's been to me. "

Winnie, the cat, saved the family

One night, the gas at Cathy's home began to leak (泄漏). The family were sleeping. Their cat, Winnie, began to push her owners and made loud meowing sounds. "It was a crazy meow, almost like she was screaming," said Cathy. Cathy woke up and was already feeling sick. It was hard for her to wake up her husband and son because they already breathed in a large amount of gas. But thanks to their heroic cat Winnie, Cathy was able to call 911 and get help before anyone was hurt. The family say that Winnie is the one who saved their lives. 

How do you greet your friends? People from different cultures have different answers: shaking hands, nodding, bowing (鞠躬), and kissing on the face. But do you know how animals "say hello" to each other? Here are some examples. 

Everyone knows how similar chimpanzees(黑猩猩) are to humans. So the most usual ways of greeting between chimpanzees are handshaking and hugging. Sometimes they also kiss each other. Some chimpanzees can even learn easy sign language. 

Giraffes hardly ever make loud sounds. Their necks can grow to two metres. When two giraffes meet, they may "shake" their necks and rub (摩擦) them against each other. This is to feel how strong and tall the other is. 

Dolphins greet one another with whistles (哨声). They can hear other dolphins from many kilometres away. Every dolphin has a different whistle. When two groups of dolphins meet, they each choose a member to "talk" to the other group. Then they can travel together. Unlike most of the other animals, dolphins are____ enough to learn a new language by making and copying new sounds. 

Guide dogs are service animals. In honour of them, April 29th is named International Guide Dog Day. Without them, many1 people could not do simple daily activities. Here are 2 stories of how guide dogs have improved people's lives:

Story 1 Creating hope
