Stamp collecting is now a big hobby for young people to remember their travels. Lovers of this hobby print the stamps, usually with pictures and names of the places, on postcards or in travel notebooks.
Kuang Zhaoxin, a 25-year-old designer, thinks collecting stamps is a great way to record her trips. "Stamp collecting has added more meaning to my travels. This habit has improved my understanding of the historical and cultural parts of different places, because when I collect stamps, I visit the attractions and try to find out the stories behind each stamp," she said.
Zhang Boren, a 12-year-old teenager from Beijing, said collecting stamps helps him learn about the culture and history of a place. He bought many special stamps when he went to Washington, D. C. in the US. The words on the stamps are written in the way people wrote in the 18th century. "It' s very amazing to see it," he said.

At the age of 50, Phoebe was told that she had cancer, with less than a year to live. Hearing the news, she decided to spend the rest of her life doing what she loved most—watching birds.
She went off to some of the world' s most amazing natural places at once. Her trips were really hard. But Phoebe surprised her doctors and her family as she carried on travelling. Years came and went, and she was still alive.
Ten years later, the cancer came back. But as she continued with her trips, the cancer went away again. At the age of 61, when she had seen 7,530 kinds of birds, she was named "the world' s leading bird spotter".
Several years later, during a trip to Mexico, she set a new record when she found species number 8,000. In fact, at that time only 12 people around the world had seen more than 7,000 kinds of birds!
Phoebe' s interest in bird-watching started when she moved to Missouri. There, she joined a group of people who were interested in birds, insects and plants. She became very worried about pollution and its influence on the environment. "We have to protect nature, or the future people won' t be able to watch these beautiful birds," she said.
Sadly, when she was 68, she died in a car accident on the island where she had stayed for two weeks and added another five to her list of over 8,400 species. Four years later, the American Birding Association published her memoirs (回忆录). Many people have enjoyed reading this moving book. Gordon Williams' s hobby may seem strange to people when they come across it for the first time. But it is a traditional craft (手艺). He builds model ships inside old bottles.
Gordon has always loved ships, especially sailing ships from the old days. His interest in this hobby began many years ago when he visited a museum in Ottawa, Canada, where there was a show of model ships in bottles. Gordon thought the show was wonderful. But he wondered how the craftsman got the ship through the thin neck of the bottle. Gordon decided to find it out.
He found an old master craftsman who was willing to teach him the necessary skills. First, Gordon takes an old bottle. Then he puts in a layer of putty (一层油灰), carefully shaped and painted, to make it look like the sea. Next, he builds the ship. To get the ship through the neck of the bottle, Gordon holds down the masts (桅杆). Once the ship is inside the bottle, he takes a long, thin tool to raise the masts.
