Bruno's Pizza Story:Recipe for Change

How should we keep safe when doing sports? Here are some good tricks.

In September 2024, Benjamin Rene and Loic Michel started their amazing journey. They crossed 16 countries on foot and finally arrived in Xinjiang in September 2025. 

"We hoped to change (ourselves). We wanted a big adventure and a chance to feel closer to nature, " Rene said. "That's why we (explore China now). "

Before setting off, the two men (careful) planned their journey. Once they arrived in China, they were amazed by the country's beautiful landscapes and its modern city life.

Have you heard of Junge Bookshop in Chongqing? At first, it was opened near a railway in Jiulongpo district.  Three years ago, with the support of the local government, the bookshop moved into an old air-raid shelter（防空洞）. The new space is ten times larger than the old one. 

During wartime, Chongqing's air-raid shelters played an important part in protecting people.  Some shelters have turned into restaurants and bars, and some now serve as art bases. These changes have breathed new life into the city. 

The bookshop is owned by Gou Jun. He says that Junge Bookshop mainly sells old books and maps.  As a result, the bookshop has become popular with both tourists and local people. Many young people visit it to take photos. The number of daily visitors has increased（增加）to three or four hundred. This has also helped small restaurants nearby. 

 They were left by visitors from different countries, including Portugal, South Korea, Spain, and France. Through these notes, they expressed their love for the bookshop and for Chongqing.

China has worked hard to protect wetlands. The world's first international mangrove（国际红树林）center was set up in Shenzhen. 

Mangrove forests are great at storing carbon（碳）, so they are called"blue carbon"places. Carbon storage happens when plants take carbon dioxide from the air and keep it in their bodies and the soil. 

Scientists have found that the peat（泥炭）under the mangrove forests can be 2, 000 years old. And this peat catches a lot of carbon from the air. Studies show that mangroves store five times more carbon underground than tropical（热带的）forests. People also call mangroves"coast guards". As the world gets warmer, sea levels rise. These trees could help protect coastal cities from being flooded（淹没）. What's more, mangroves offer homes to animals. Many birds stop there during their travels. 

It's said mangrove forests cover about 14. 7 million hectares worldwide. In China, the mangrove area has grown from 22, 000 hectares in 2001 to 27, 000 hectares now. This makes China one of the few countries where mangrove areas are getting bigger. Shenzhen has about 35, 000 hectares of wetlands. Of those, about 296. 18 hectares are for mangrove trees. The Futian Mangrove Ecological Park is in the heart of the city. It's a very important place for birds to stop during their long trips every winter. Almost 100, 000 birds go there!

"Building the Shenzhen center is very important, "said Sun Lili from a mangrove group. "It helps China work with other countries to protect mangrove trees. "China's government is working hard to protect wetlands and mangroves. Shenzhen wants to become a"wetland city"by 2035. 

In most places in the world, winter brings shorter days and colder weather. At this time of the year, there is usually less food for animals. However, they deal with this problem in different ways. 

Some animals save food so that they have it in winter. Squirrels and some kinds of birds keep nuts and seeds in trees and other safe places. Honeybees make enough honey before winter. 

To prepare for winter, some animals eat more than they need during the warmer months and store (贮存) the extra (额外的) food as body fat. This fat acts as energy during the cold months. For example, beavers store extra fat to prepare for winter. 

One way animals spend the winter is by becoming dormant. These animals may look like they are sleeping, but they are saving energy in this way. Chipmunks are less active during the winter. They move very little and only come out sometimes to eat. 

Animals like bats and snakes go into a deep sleep called hibernation (冬眠). During hibernation, their body temperature drops and their breathing slows down. This helps them save energy. Some bears also slow down in winter but they do not hibernate fully. Their body temperature does not drop as much, but they can still go months without eating. 

Some animals, like geese, fly to warmer places. Rabbits grow thicker fur (软毛) to stay warm. 

By using these smart ways, animals can live through the hard times of winter. 

Kenzie and her friends walked home from the bus. They really missed their friend Holly. She had to be away from school for two weeks. 

"When my mum was in the hospital, people brought her gifts, "Maya said. "We should bring gifts to Holly!"
