The days of staring at a map or the screen of your smartphone when you're lost will soon be over—thanks to new shoes that tell you which way to turn.

The shoes use a Bluetooth link to communicate with your mobile's mapping    system.The mobile works out which route you should follow and the shoes then   emit a vibration (震动) in either foot telling you when and where to change direction.  ①The shoes will also count the number of steps you've taken and the calories you've burned.

"They are as easy to use as a tap on the shoulder,"said Krispian Lawrence,who     developed the shoes with partner Anirudh Sharma in Hyderabad,India.

"You can even communicate with them using hand gestures and finger snaps because the shoes have sensors that can pick up movement and sound."The Lechal shoes go on sale worldwide in June but Lawrence and Sharma's company,Ducere Technologies,has already taken more than 3,000 pre-orders.

Lawrence believes the shoes will also improve road safety."If I'm on my bike or motorbike,I don't want to stare at my phone—it's dangerous,"he says."I'd rather be guided by my footwear."

He believes his invention will prove ②____for the visually impaired (视 觉障碍者)and has promised that every pair sold by Ducere will subsidise(补助) a cheaper pair for a visually impaired person.

The shoes don't impress explorer Sir Ranulph Fiennes,however."What's wrong with a good old- fashioned map?"said the 70-year-old when told of the shoes."If you rely too heavily on technology, you're heading for trouble.Too many people  have forgotten the basics:how to read a map and a compass."

Many people are embracing (拥抱) artificial intelligence(AI).Tools      such as ChatGPT use AI to produce text quickly.Some people find that helpful for school or work.Other AI tools create images or chatbots.But AI isn't always accurate   or reliable.And it comes with risks, especially if used irresponsibly.We asked some students if they think AI is good for society.They made strong points on both sides of the issue.Here are three of their answers.Where do you stand?

I believe AI can help in many areas.These include healthcare,education,robotics,

and more. Some people might think students could use AI to get answers without putting in any effort.But AI doesn't just give students the answers.It can help them solve problems step by step.That's a great way to learn.

AI can be good for society in some ways,but it could also go wrong.With AI,it  can be hard to know what is real and what is made-up.And students could cheat on their homework.This would not be good,because teachers would not  know if students were struggling.Students could stop thinking for themselves and depend too much on AI.

Artificial intelligence is good for society.Without it,some helpful websites wouldn't exist.It's also good because you might have a question and your parents don't  know the answer.Then you can ask AI.I know students can use artificial intelligence to cheat on tests or on their homework.But a lot of schools are able to block(屏蔽)  those websites so that students can't cheat.
