In a small village called Hangtou in Shandong, a special library named"Siyuan Library" has recently caught people's eyes. It was set up by Zhou Qinggui, who was awarded in the NationalConference on Reading (全民阅读大会) in 2026. Here are  some notes from a reporter who interviewed Zhou Qinggui, Zhou's father and a volunteer.

Born in a poor family, I was able to continue my education with the help of my family and villagers. In 2019, when I returned to my hometown, I found there was no place for children to read, and many of them spent too much time on entertainment (娱乐). Without college student models to follow, they never dreamed big. I felt heartbroken. My hometown shaped me, and Iwanted to do something in return. Building a library to improve the cultural climate could be a right step forward.

Siyuan Library has changed the village a lot. As village children pick up good study habits and confidence, their parents also join them in reading in the library.  In 2024, 14 local students entered college; in 2025, this number rose to 34. Zhao Xiaoya is one of them, who once often read and studied in Siyuan Library and finally went to university. When asked about the library, ZhaoXiaoya said,"    ▲    "

By 2030, the world's data(数据) centers are expected to use more than double the electricity they use today. AI is the main driver. It forces countries to look for new ways to solve the big problem. China is leading the way by putting data centers under the sea as a greener solution.

In December 2022, Hainan became home to China's first underwater data center. This was followed by a more advanced(先进的) project in Shanghai in 2025.

AI servers give off heat while working, making the temperature rise. If the heat isn't taken away in time, the servers won't run well or even break down. On-land data centers have to use up to 40% of their electricity just for cooling AI servers.

Underwater data centers, like the one in Shanghai,use pipes to pump (输送) seawater. Seawater goes through the radiators on the back of the servers. It takes in heat and carries it away. The sea temperature is about15 ℃, perfect for natural cooling. In this way, the electricity is saved. An assessment(评估) from the China Academy of Information and Communications Technology shows the underwater data center uses at least 30% less electricity than on-land data centers thanks to natural cooling.

Underwater data centers can also reduce land usage by 80%. And the one in Shanghai offers another benefit: it will get more than 95% of its electricity from a kind of renewable energy —wind energy. And the use of tidal (潮汐) and wave energy is also taken into consideration.

China's efforts in developing underwater data centers show its promise to create low-carbon digital infrastructure (低碳数字基础设施). The act not only helps reduce the environmental influence of AI, but also could set a new standard for sustainable computing (可持续算力)worldwide.

Once, long ago in a land far away, there lived four little characters. Two were mice named"Sniff" and"Scurry" and the other two were little people named"Hem" and"Haw". Every day the four spent time in the maze (迷宫) looking for Cheese. It wasn't long before they found CheeseStation C with plenty of Cheese.

Scene One

(At Cheese Station C. Some friends are invited to enjoy the Cheese.)

Haw: Pretty nice Cheese, huh?

Friends: Sure! How delicious!

Hem: This Cheese is ours. We deserve (应该得到) this Cheese. We have worked long and hard enough to find it.

Scene Two

(At Cheese Station C. Sniff and Scurry look around and find no Cheese. They quickly run off in search of New Cheese. Hem and Haw can't believe that the Cheese is gone.)

Hem: What! No Cheese? No Cheese? Who moved my Cheese?

Haw: Oh, no! I can't believe it!

Scene Three

(Sniff and Scurry go up and down in the maze. Finally they arrive at Cheese Station N. There they find a mountain of New Cheese. Hem and Haw are still at Cheese Station C.)

Hem:    Who moved my Cheese? Why didn't they tell me earlier? It's unfair!

Haw:     Maybe our Cheese will never come back. We'll have no food. We'll diel Maybe Sniff andScurry have found New Cheese now. Let's go and find ours!

Hem:     Oh, no! I like it here. It's comfortable. It's what I know. It's dangerous out there. I' ll never go out!

Scene Four

(At Cheese Station N. After enduring (忍受) doubts and hardships, Haw finally reaches CheeseStation N, weak, tired and hungry. His old friends Sniff and Scurry are enjoying the Cheese there.Haw quickly says his hellos and jumps into the New Cheese.)

Haw: What delicious Cheesel Hooray for Change!

"I could only see large letters within 20 cm. After the doctor's treatment, I could see them from 270 cm away." said an elderly man who suffered from eye problems.

The magic, from the deep rainforest of Yunnan, is called Dai Medicine. It is the survival wisdom of the Dai people which has a history of around 2,500 years. It has its own understanding of how the body works.

Dai Medicine includes many special treatments. The heated herbal bed therapy (睡药疗法) is a famous one. In this treatment, the doctor spreads warm herbs over a bed and makes the patient lie on it. Then he places more herbs over the patient. Finally, he covers the patient with a quilt(被子) to keep the temperature. In 2011, the therapy was included in China's Intangible CulturalHeritage. Another well-known treatment is the herbal pouch therapy(敷药疗法). The doctor heats a cloth bag filled with herbs, puts it on the affected area (患处) and then moves it backwards and forwards.

At present, about 11 therapies are widely used in practice. Dao Huixian, a Dai doctor, said,"In our general hospital, for critical illnesses, we mainly depend on modern medicine. But for chronic(慢性的) diseases, the strengths of Dai Medicine offer greater advantages."

Since Yunnan is close to Southeast Asia, Dai Medicine is not only a way of treating diseases,but also an important bridge for medical and cultural communication with neighboring countries.In the future, this ancient wisdom may help more people around the world!

Paul has always loved bowling. As a child, he often said,"When I 1 , I will own a bowling alley(保龄球馆)." For him, it was the perfect job.

When Paul got older, however, he had bills to pay. He started a family, and he needed 2 .He took a job he didn't really care for just to make a living. Owning a bowling alley seemed like a distant(遥不可及的) dream.3 Lucky Lanes went up for sale.

Lucky Lanes was a bowling alley in Paul's neighborhood. It was old and ugly, and 4 was surprised when the owner put it up for sale.

Seeing the Spirit of Horses

2026 is the Year of the Horse. The pictures of horses can be seen here and there. Let's learn about some famous horses in history.

Wuzhui (乌骓)

Wuzhui was the horse of Xiang Yu, a warlord (将领) from the late Qin Dynasty (221—206BC). The horse was mostly black but its feet were as white as snow. Wuzhui was famous for its strength. It stayed with Xiang Yu for five years, and they won many fights together. In the stories, Xiang Yu killed himself near the Wujiang River. The horse followed him and jumped into the river too.

Dilu (的卢)

Dilu was the horse of Liu Bei, the founder of the Shu Kingdom (蜀国) in the Three Kingdoms period (220—280). Dilu could run very fast, but sometimes it didn't listen to its owner. So people thought it could be dangerous. But in the stories, the horse saved Liu's life by jumping across the Tanxi River. It was about 10 meters wide!

Chitu (赤兔)

Chitu was the horse of Lyu Bu, a warlord from the Three Kingdoms period. "Tu" refers to "菟". That means a tiger in Chinese culture. The name shows how brave the horse was. Lyu was a strong man. With Chitu, he became even stronger. There is an old saying, "Lyu Bu was among the best warriors and Chitu — his horse — was the best of battle horses (人中吕布，马中赤兔)."

Horses are our great friends. In the past, these famous horses helped us in fights and made history. Now horses are still important in our lives. And they stand for courage and loyalty in Chinese culture.

In the great outdoors, there are some sounds of nature. Have you ever try listening to them? The quacking of ducks, the croaking  of frogs and a calling of birds can create pictures in our minds. 

Don't you think they can true touch our hearts? Many of us might  not live near these animals, but them sounds stay in our memories. 

The sounds of nature are everywhere if we take the time listening. 

They are not just made of animals or birds. Some people may like  to hear the wind blowing through tree. Others may enjoy the sound  of a stream run over rocks. 

Listening to nature are great for us. It helps our minds relax and  can slow down our heart rate. To fully enjoy the sounds of nature, why not go outside, sit in silent and listen carefully? By doing so, we  can enjoy the beautiful music of nature.

Imagine wearing a virtual reality (VR) headset (虚拟现实头显) and seeing a delicious ice cream in front of you. What if you could "taste" it without taking a bite? You can't feel the coldness in your mouth, but you can taste its sweetness thanks to a tasting device (设备).

Scientists created a new device known as the e-Taste. It could make the VR experience even more real. To use the device, the user need to wear it in the mouth. The device has five different chemicals (化学物质) inside. It can mix these chemicals to recreate the tastes of different food or drinks. Then the device sends the taste directly to the user's tongue.

To test their device, the scientists let users wear it. Then users "tasted" different food and drinks with the device. After that, there was a list of possible names for them to choose from. The choices were cake, coffee, fish soup, fried egg, and lemonade. Users easily guessed the tastes of cake and lemonade. However, they had a harder time telling the difference between the rest.

While the device still needs improvement, it makes virtual food experiences possible. It could also help people without a sense of taste. More importantly, the device could give scientists new ideas and help them learn about how the brain understands information from the mouth.

In a small village, there lived a famous old carpenter (木匠). People travelled from far and wide to buy his furniture.

One day, a young man came to learn from him. The young man loved working with wood but was always hurrying to finish things. After a few days of learning from the carpenter, the young man thought, "I can make furniture faster."

The old carpenter noticed this and said, "I can teach you to make furniture quickly, but first, you need to do a simple job." He then passed the young man a rough board and said, "Make this board smooth."

The man thought it was easy. He sanded (用砂纸打磨) the board a few times and soon gave it back confidently. The old carpenter felt the board and said, "It is not smooth enough. Try again."

A little impatient, the young man sanded harder. But the old carpenter shook his head once again.

Feeling sad, the young man started to think more. He wasn't in a hurry any more and sanded every part of the board carefully. Finally, the board was as smooth as a mirror. He was so pleased with his work.

This time, the old carpenter smiled and said, "You have learned an important lesson. Success needs not only skill but also patience. The simpler the job is, the more patience we need. When you perfect every part, you can make a perfect piece."

The young man understood that carpentry was not only about making things but also about shaping the mind. Life is like this — a successful person moves forward step by step.
