Playing is an important part of childhood. It's fun and it helps children learn skills and stay active. Whether it's creating an imaginary world out of building blocks or simply riding a bike, children love to play and they need toys. But what happens to the toys which are no longer enjoyed, or the bike that becomes too small as the child grows? Usually, they are kept somewhere and forgotten. To avoid this happening, we should make it possible to rent toys. That way, they can be sent back and someone else may need them. If lots of people share toys, it's better for the environment because fewer toys have to be made. Making toys uses resources such as energy, plastic and wood. It can be bad for the environment. It also means children can have the chance to try out lots of different kinds of toys. Once they are bored with a toy, they can send it back to recycling banks and get a different one from them. I think it's an environmentally-friendly way and it is clean because there will be less mess to clear up at home or fewer cupboards filled with toys. 

Today is my birthday and it is the first birthday I(spend) since I left home. You can't imagine how much I miss you! A few days ago, we (learn) a poem and discussed the famous line" You don't know what you' ve got until it's gone. " Miss Li said that her primary school teacher made a big difference in her life. She told us how her teacher encouraged her. But she mentioned that she didn't have  chance to tell her. She was very sad about this. This made (I) think a lot, especially when I am hundreds of kilometers away from home. I am writing you this letter because I want you (know) how much I love you. 

Time goes (quick) and so much has happened. There have been bad times and good times, but you were always by my side. When I won different kinds of (prize), you always smiled and said you were proud of me. I failed my math exam, you encouraged me and said that everything would be much(good). Now when Ihave problems, I always think of your words which encouraged me to deal  all my difficulties and helped me so much. 

You have always said that we should judge people's success by how they live their lives every day. I think I'm living a successful life and it's all because of you. Thank you, Mom. 

Seven years ago, I was a 16-year-old girl doing a part-time job at an aquarium(水族馆). My passion for the1 and my dream of becoming a biologist made every day at the aquarium exciting. I also got along well with the other workers. 

However, when" Shark Week" arrived, on the day of my duty, I suddenly fell2 . My face appeared pale and I was about to3 . My co-worker noticed and walked me to the office. Feeling really sick, I knew I had to take a4 home. 

As I made my way to the bus stop, I passed a cupcake shop. Considering the hot weather, I decided to5 myself to an ice cream. The woman at the checkout did the usual customer service "How's your day?" Hearing this, I almost6 in tears as I explained that I wasn't well enough to work and that I would end up missing Shark Week. She looked at me in sympathy and7 asked if I wanted some chocolate on my ice cream. I said sure. As I8 for my purse, the woman immediately told me that it was on her. I was so9 that I thanked her a million times before leaving. 

My memory isn't the best, but her act of kindness did make my terrible day better. Small kindnesses really make a10 . The experience of that day has always reminded me to be a source of positivity for those around me, especially during difficult times.

On Monday, the 2024 Nobel Prize in Medicine was given to two American scientists, Victor Ambros and Gary Ruvkun. It was because they discovered microRNA and its role in gene regulation after transcription.

MicroRNAs are a new type of very small RNA molecules and very important in gene regulation. Now we know the human genome codes for over1, 000 microRNAs. 

The Nobel Assembly said the pair's surprising discovery showed a completely new part of gene regulation. "MicroRNAs are really important for how living things grow and work, " the assembly added. 

This is the third year in a row that the awardees in this field are related to genetics. In2023, the prize was given to Katalin Karikó and Drew Weissman for their research on mRNA vaccines. In 2022, Svante Pääbo won it for his discoveries about human evolution. 

It all started in 1944 when Oswald Avery found that DNA carries the genetic code. Later, James Watson and Francis Crick showed the structures of DNA and RNA, which made it possible to change genes to get better plants and animals more easily. 

Since the human genome map was completed and released in 2003, scientists have been developing drugs and treatments based on genetic studies. Editing human embryo genes is illegal, but changing DNA can potentially cure diseases. CRISPR/Cas9, called" genetic scissors", is used to treat cancer. CAR T-cell Therapy, which was effective in fighting blood cancer in some patients in 2021, also involves gene technologies. 

Ambros and Ruvkun's discovery of microRNA and its role in genetic regulation will surely bring bigger breakthroughs in medical science and hope to more patients with currently deadly diseases. There's a saying that the 21st century is the century of life science, and the growing gene science proves it.
