Effective Study Strategies

As students, knowing that you don't know something before the exam is better than just waiting for the day of the exam. To get well prepared for exams, study strategies are necessary in our study process. Here are some of them. 

Use different ways to remember.

When you actively recall some information from memory, you can write it down on paper in different forms.  You just start with a blank piece of paper and write things down. It's especially helpful because it shows you what you do (and do not) understand, so you can know what different forms. you need to review and practice more. 

When you work on several related skills or ideas together, you can practice one skill or idea for a short period of time, then turn to another one, and then back to the first. Or, when you study geography which has something to do with history, you can review history information, and return to geography later. It not only helps you learn better, but also keeps you from falling behind in your other classes!

Get enough sleep and eat well.

Though it might seem to work fast without taking a break and stay up studying all night, it won't help you in the long run. Instead, you'd better develop a study plan, eat a good meal, and have a bottle of water when you take your exam. In this way, you will earn and understand the material better.

Humans have been keeping pets, such as dogs and cats, for ages. But now, artificial intelligence (AI) is changing this tradition by creating robot "pets", which look and act differently from real animals. These "pets" are changing the way people live, work, and play across China. 

Recently, a video of a woman walking a robotic dog in Shanghai went popular online, amazed millions on Weibo, they called it "a scene from the future". Another popular video showed a robotic dog carrying a real puppy on its back in Chengdu, attracting crowds. 

On shopping sites like Taobao, the Go2 quadruped (四足的) robot from Unitree Robotics has sold over3,ooones. Buyers shared photos of the robots playing with children or performing in parks. 

One parent shared, "Though it looks different from the real dogs, my child loves it so much that we take it out almost every week to have fun—it's like his best friend!"

Robot pets are becoming silent partners in China's modern life. At a Chongqing marathon, they danced like lions and joined 35,0oohuman runners. In Zhejiang, one even acted in a traditional opera show, amazing the audience with difficult performances. Except for fun, these robots are also being used in medical and other public services across the country. In Hangzhou, a robot dog named "Xiao Xi"" sends medicine to elderly people. In Shandong, they carry heavy goods in Taishan Mountain. In Qingdao, robot dogs help firefighters by searching dangerous areas. In Beijing, they patrol (巡逻) the streets and attract attention. 

As robots play a bigger role in our lives, China's robot market is growing fast. Airport shows it was worth 468 million yuan in 2023 and may reach 4. 8 billion yuan by 2030. The government also supports this growth and promises to support more AI inventions, including smarter robots, AI-enabled phones and computers, and intelligent robots. 

After five years away from the Kruger, my wife and I retained last winter to celebrate our 10^th anniversary, spending two fantastic weeks in the Park. The true magic of the Kruger lies in its uncertainty. One of the most exciting parts of our trips was to look for the wild animals especially big cats like lions and leopards(豹). Although we got enough knowledge and preparation, luck is still the most important factor(因素) in the encounters(偶遇).

Moments later, we received a message that there were lions around here and soon we found five lions crossing the road in front of us. Once again, we were lucky to be alone, we took more photos of these beautiful animals in the perfect evening light before other cars arrived. 

On our final morning, we drove from Lower Sabie to Skukuza. About 9km before Nkuhlu Picnic Site, we discovered two lions walking slowly and confidently along the road. They looked straight at us before disappearing into the woods. To me, it felt as if these lions were saying goodbye to us. 

As I write this, we're on a flight back home to Finland. I look at my wife and notice her eyes are filled with tears. We both know that this journey will stay in our hearts forever. 

Fabrice Mba's love for Chinese culture and martial arts (武术) began in his childhood in Cameroon, where he grew up watching kung fu movies. His elder brother was a projectionist (放映员) and Mba often helped him sweep the theater. For the first time, he saw Shaolin monks on the screen. "I discovered kung fu and Chinese culture. It spoke a lot to me. " He and his friends would imitate characters from the movies, but there was no kung fu club to train them. 

When he was 8, he left home with his elder sister to live in the capital, Yaounde where he met a group of Chinese engineers in the 198Os. They built the Yaounde Conference Center, a China-aid project. He often went there with his friends and watched them training. One day, to his excitement, a man in the project called to them and asked them to learn kung fu together. After that, he came every morning to learn kung fu. He trained hard and learned some basic movements. Mba recalls, "That was a turning point in my kung fu journey. ""

His life took another turn in2011,when he met a director of the Confucius Institute(研究所) at the University of Yaounde Ⅱduring one of his training sessions. Mba joined in the institute. Thanks to a scholarship, he got the chance to train in martial arts at the Shaolin Temple in Henan Province. 

Today, Mba is well-known in Cameroon when it comes to kung fu. He runs a program that offers free short-term kung fu training to young people. He also teaches kung fu in several schools. He wants to help promote Chinese culture. " "I'd like to encourage other people to learn kung fu, to really encourage them to admire Chinese culture as I have," he says. Mba adds that as more people take up kung fu in Cameroon, he hopes to continue to offer valuable training in the future.

Nan Rendong (南仁东) was an excellent Chinese scientist who became known as "the father of FAST(500米口径球面射电望远镜)",the world's largest radio telescope. His amazing life shows how strong will and clear goals can achieve a big thing.

Nan was bom in 1945 in Jilin province. In 1963, he entered Tsinghua University to study radio technology. There, he stood out not only for his intelligence but also his strong will. Besides his major, Nan worked hard to master English, believing it would help him learn from international researches. After graduating from Tsinghua University, Nan worked at several research centers. In 1993,he suggested building China's first great radio telescope-an challenging project that many foreign experts doubted whether it could succeed From 1994 to 2015, Nan led his team across China's mountains to find the perfect location. Finally, they chose a natural lowland in Guizhou Province.

During the process of building FAST, Nan and his team faced lots of difficulties, including bad weather, technical problems, and limited funding. There were times when the project nearly stopped, but Nan often worked late into the night and could always find the solutions. When completed in 2016, FAST became China's most important astronomical achievement. It can pick up weak radio signals form faraway star systems, helping scientists search for alien life and study the origin of the universe.

Unfortunately, Nan passed away in2017 because of cancer, but his influence has continued. An asteroid(小行星) was named after him in 2018. The Chinese government awarded him the national honor of "People's Scientist in 2019. More importantly, he inspires countless young people to study hard. His story proves that with great passion and strong will, even the greatest dreams can come true.

Did you know the 2024 United Nations Chinese Language Day was celebrated on April 19? To mark this day, the Fourth China Media Group (CMG Overseas Chinese Language Video Festival began on March 19.

CMG organized this festival to collect creative videos about Chinese culturefrompeopleworldwide.OnApril23, a special event was held at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, featuring a Chinese folk music performance by young artists and an exhibition showcasing creative Chinese characters. 

The festival aimed to help global friends learn about China's rich history and culture. There were I8 awards, including Best Short Video, Best Popularity, and Special Award for Young Cultural Ambassadors. Winners got to attend the UN Chinese Language Day celebrations in Geneva and even visited China to experience its traditions firsthand. Their winning videos were also displayed during the events.

Why does the UN celebrate Chinese Language Day on Guyu(谷雨)? Guyu is the 6th of 24 traditional East Asian solar terms. The day also honors Cangjie(仓颉), an ancient Chinese figure believed to have created Chinese characters. So it was meaningful for CMG to host the festival on this day. Let's hope for more exciting events to share the beauty of Chinese language and culture with the world!

A new study recently has found that snub-nosed monkeys help each other to raise their young babies. But they prefer to choose those with the most parenting experience to babysit their young.

This discovery was made by accident by a team of researchers. They noticed that at their habitats, the monkeys passed around their newborns a lot and would take turns to clean, carry, or even feed the newborns. This behavior reminded the team of how humans babysit for each other, and so they decided to observe the monkeys more closely.

They followed the group every day for six months. There were more than 400 moments where a female monkey communicated with another mother and its newborn, including cleaning the newborn or gently pulling them closer. When the newborns grew up a bit, their mothers were more likely to allow other mothers to take care of them. When choosing a babysitter, the mothers based their decision on how much parenting experience the other female monkeys had. The younger mothers with less experience would still be allowed to look after the babies, but usually after a more experienced monkey had given up their babysitting duties. This was a chance for the younger mothers to learn more about parenting to prepare them for having babies in the future.

Researcher Cui Chunyan told New Scientist magazine that in the future, more research needs to be done to find out whether the monkey mothers will consider other monkey's social status or whether they are related to each other when choosing babysitters.

Chen Bin is now teaching psychology(心理学) at a college in Guangdong province. People call him "a(n)1 n a wheelchair".

What's water footprint? It's a measure of how much water people use. It counts both direct and indirect use. Direct water is water that comes out of your tap. You might use it to wash your hands or do dishes. You might drink it. But tap-water use is just a part of your water footprint.

We use most water indirectly. We use it to produce goods and services.

What makes up the biggest part of your water footprint? "Food," Hogeboom says. In the United

States, clothes shopping can also make up a large part of your water footprint. A single pair of jeans takes almost 2,0o0 gallons to produce.
