Purple, green, orange, red . . . animals have a lot of beautiful and different colours. These colours are important to them. Some animals use the colours to make their enemies(敌人) afraid. And sometimes their enemies cannot see them clearly because their colours are like some other things. Other animals use the colours to find partners. But how do animals have their colours?

Food gives them colours.

Some animals get pigments(色素) from their food. For example, flamingos eat a lot of shrimp or algae. These things have a red-orange pigment. The pigment gives flamingos a pink colour. The more they eat, the pinker they get. 

Body gives them colours.

Animals' body parts, like feathers, scales(鳞片), hair and skin, have special structures. They reflect(反射) light to make animals colourful. This is called structural colours. For example, blue morpho butterflies(蓝闪蝶) have beautiful scales on their wings. These give them a bright blue colour.

My Mother

My mother is like the warm sunshine and she is always there to help me.

I am Li Ming, a student in Grade Seven. Linda is one of my good friends at school. We are in the same class. She is  English girl. She is from London. She isn't heavy or thin. She is of medium build. In class, she usually wears glasses  she is short-sighted(近视的).

A School in Britain

I get up and get dressed for school. My school has a uniform—black trousers and shoes, a white shirt and a black and gold tie. The girls wear the same, or they can wear black skirts. 

I don't live far from the school, so I walk there with my friends. Lots of students take the school bus or their parents drive them to school. 

Students all study English, maths and science, and we can choose others. My favourites are art and IT. Some students like learning languages and they can study Japanese. 

At noon, we have an hour' break for lunch. Some students bring sandwiches to school for lunch, but my friends and I often eat in the dining room. We enjoy eating at school. 

After-school activities

Lessons end at 4 o' clock, but on Mondays and Wednesdays, Istay at school until 5 o' clock. I go to the chess club and basketball club. There are lots of clubs and activities at our school.

Our school is a green school. What makes it green?

First, we have a lot of trees. There are trees in front of and behind every building. Some trees are green only in spring and summer. And some are green all year round. The trees make our school look like a big forest. 

And our school is a green one also because we"go green". How do we go green? We have two green days every month. On GreenDays, no students or teachers go to school by car. And we haveClean-up Day every month. On that day, students go to streets to pick up rubbish(捡垃圾). Also, we have Tree-planting Day every spring. We plant young trees on hills. We have three green clubs. The members of the clubs look after those trees well, like watering and fertilizing(施肥) them. 

Green is not only a colour, but also about life. Please go green with us and make the world a more beautiful place.
