When it comes to learning  foreign language, most people would chooseEnglish. Millions of learners from non-English speaking countries rely only on textbooks and spend hours (study) English grammar. However, these are not ideal (理想的)ways (learn) English. Let's look at some better ways.

English media such as music, videos and TV shows are (help). I come from a small country in Europe. When I was a little boy, there (be) only a few local TV shows or songs in my hometown. So my friends and I mostly watched English TVshows and listened  English music. This, along with the courses we took at school, really helped (we) learn English faster.

Start making conversations in English once you can understand what you hear. It may seem strange at first, it will feel more natural if you keep practising. I spent a lot of time talking with my friends in English. By the time we finished primary school, we could speakEnglish quite fluently.

I learnt three other (language) when I was in college. Now I can(confident) say that the only way to truly master a language is to use it as if it were your mother tongue. So find ways to expose yourself to(置身于) English as much as possible.

A. Mr Smith will have an English party. He' ll invite many English teachers to the party. If you join, you can practise speaking English with them.

B. Mr Miller is a famous singer. He' ll have a party this Saturday afternoon. During the party, he' ll sing some English songs.

C. Mr Li has many old English storybooks. And he' ll have a party this Sunday morning. During the party, you can read these storybooks.

D. There' ll be a party about Chinese storybooks in Sunny Centre. If you join the party, you can read the storybooks for free.

E. Mrs Brown has a dancing party every Saturday evening. If you join the party, you can dance with great dancers and learn a lot from them.

F. Mr White will have a party to teach others how to make model robots in Blue School thisSunday morning.

Now students' English handwriting is getting worse and worse. That makes their teachers feel worried. Is your English handwriting beautiful? 

Use lined paper.

When you write English words or sentences, you can use lined paper.  Be sure to write between the lines, and pay attention to your capital(大写的) letters.

Slow down.

If your writing is hard to read, try to slow down a little.  If you write too quickly, it's hard for you to stop where you should, and you may make more mistakes.

Hold your pen in the right way.

When you hold your pen in the right way, your writing will be much better. Some students press too hard when they write. This makes their handwriting look bad.

Draw more pictures.

 While you are drawing pictures, you need to use skills to control your pen better. Even though you may have no time to draw at school, you can practise at home.

Handwriting is very important. Imagine you are a famous movie star, what would you do when your fans run up to you? Give them your autographs(亲笔签名), of course! So let's practise and improve our handwriting.

Everyone has their hard times throughout their lives. And so do I. My spoken English used

to be a big challenge for me —— both in my study and in my life. Though I could get good grades in English exams, I didn't dare(敢) to communicate with others in English.

Last year, our school organized a cultural exchange activity with foreign students. When Isaw my classmates speaking English fluently and chatting cheerfully with those foreign students, I envied (羡慕) them because I also wanted to make friends with foreigners. Outside of school, Iwas in a similar predicament. While I was travelling abroad, I was nervous when some friendly English-speaking locals tried to talk to me.

In order to change this, I made up my mind to improve my spoken English. I changed my attitude (态度) towards my weakness. As Charlie Chaplin, one of the most famous comedians(喜剧演员), once said, "You have to believe in yourself. That's the secret of success." ▲So I began to take an active part in different kinds of English activities and push myself to give speeches in front of my classmates. As the saying goes, "Chance favours the prepared mind." Through a whole year of efforts, I' ve made great progress in my spoken English and I'm no longer afraid of speaking English in public.

Never say never! If I can make the impossible possible, so can you. Face difficulties with courage and overcome(克服) them, and you will finally achieve success.

Let's Enjoy Our English Week!

The Fun English Week that we have been preparing for a long time is finally coming!

Are you ready to have fun? Let's enjoy ourselves during this English Week!

On the first day, all the teachers and students will get together in the hall. The activity will start with a brief(简短的) introduction to the English Week. After that, there will be a speech competition. The top three students will get surprising prizes.

On the second day, we are going to watch several interesting English movies in the classrooms. And we will be given time to discuss them in English after each movie ends.

On the third day, we will invite two guests from the UK to teach us English songs, such as Never Say Never and Forever Young. After that, we will hold a singing competition. The winner will get a guitar as a prize.

On the fourth day,30 teams will put on plays. All of them have prepared for a long time and are ready to perform wonderful shows on the school playground.

On the morning of the last day, there will be a writing competition. Students will write an article on a given topic. Excellent articles will be showed in the library. In the afternoon, there will be interesting games like crosswords(填字游戏) and guessing games.

The history of the English language 1 over 1,500 years ago in the north of Europe. Around the 5th century CE, tribes(部落) known as the Angles, Saxons and Jutes travelled west from Germany and Denmark across the North Sea. They settled in Britain and by the late 7th century, they were 2 an early form of English.

In the late 8th century, the Vikings began attacking England. The 3 lasted for almost200 years. During this time, many Latin, Danish and Norse words entered the English language. For example, English borrowed 4 like "skin" and "leg" from Old Norse, as well as the pronouns "them", "their" and "they". Words with the same meaning from the Norse language also became part of English, such as "wrath(English)","anger(Norse)";"sick(English)","ill(Norse)".

In 1066, the Normans took control of England. French became the language of the 5 and powerful, while English was spoken mostly by the poor. However, by the late 14th century, English 6 the main language of the country again. By this time, many words used in English 7 French or Latin, and many of the early old English words were no longer used.

In the 16th and 17th centuries, people became 8 in the classics. During this period, many words from Latin and Greek were added to the English language. Many of these words, or parts of words, are still used in 9 English.

Today, English includes words from many of the world's languages. You can 10 find a word used in English that first came from your language.

World Pangolin(穿山甲) Day is on the  (three) Saturday of February each year. It fell   February 15th in the year 2026. It's   day to help people know more about pangolins. 

Pangolins are animals that live in Africa and Asia. They have scales(鳞片) on their skin and feed on  (ant). Pangolins are important animals   they help protect trees in forests. 

However, pangolins are now endangered. According to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN), more than 1 million pangolins have been killed or sold in the last 10 years. In 2020, IUCN  (add) the pangolin to the world's"critically endangered animals" list. Now pangolins are  (endangered) than pandas. 

The growing trade of their scales and meat is the main reason for their decline (下降) in number. Many people in Asia and Africa eat their meat, and some even use their scales to treat sick people. 

 (Lucky), this situation is getting better. A law has been made to stop anyone from  (buy) and eating pangolins. Breaking this law will be regarded as a crime(犯罪). The trade of pangolins across the world is also not allowed. 

"I hope more people will join (we) to protect pangolins from such a sad situation, " Zhou Canying told Xinhua News Agency. Zhou is head of the Wildlife Protection Association of Changsha, Hunan Province.

Years ago, melodys(珊瑚裸尾鼠) could still be seen running on the Australian island of Bramble Cay.  One fisherman, Egon Steward, told scientists that he saw a few in 2009. Scientists believe that was the last time someone saw the animal. In February 2019, the Australian government said that Bramble Cay melodys died out.  

Melomys have never been found outside Bramble Cay. In 1978, several hundred melodys lived on the island.   In December 2011, scientists looking for melodys returned empty-handed. 

Melomys were little known. However, people around the world are sad about their disappearance. "The melody was a little brown mouse, " said Tim Beshara, a scientist. "But it was our little brown mouse.   Sadly, we failed. "

It is very likely that melodys died out because of the lack of food. The animal lived on plants. Between 2004 and 2014, however, the number of plants on Bramble Cay reduced by 97per cent.   Scientists believe the lack of plants was caused by climate change. 

Fernando Trujillo, a scientist from Colombia, spends most of his life studying river dolphins, also known as pink dolphins. He tries his best to save these animals and provide them with a better living environment. 

Trujillo took a strong interest in wild animals when he was a kid. His grandfather often took him to the Orinoco River. With all kinds of wildlife, the Orinoco River was a perfect place to have fun. During a trip to the Amazon River, Trujillo met river dolphins for the first time. "I fell in love with the river dolphins as soon as I saw them. Even now, more than thirty years after we first met, I still feel excited when I see them, " Trujillo said with a smile. 

River dolphins mainly live in the Amazon River and they mean a lot to people living near the river. They think river dolphins are sacred(神圣的) and can bring peace and joy to them. Sadly, river dolphins are in danger because of overfishing, climate change and deforestation(砍伐森林). 

"When I began to do studies near the Amazon River, an accident happened. A river dolphin and her baby were trapped in (困在) a fishing net. I tried to save them with some local people, but we failed, " said Trujillo. He felt heartbroken and then he built a protection area for river dolphins in the Amazon River. 

Trujillo works closely with the local government and communities. He hopes his wild friends can live a safe life in the future. 

The Tequila fish(龙舌兰鱼) is a small freshwater fish that lives in the rivers and lakes of south-west Mexico. This kind of fish could be easily found in Mexico many years ago. But for more than ten years, it has been disappearing and is believed to be extinct. 

Luckily, a team made a great effort. With the help of workers at Chester Zoo in England, scientists in Mexico have changed this situation —— they raised the Tequila fish first and put captive-bred (人工繁殖的) fish back to the wild when they grew up. The team has confirmed (确认) that the fish are producing eggs and that the population is increasing in the wild. 

Gerardo Garcia, a worker from Chester Zoo, said, "They were doing well. They started with the introduction of 1, 500 fish, but now the number has increased by tens of thousands. Now we are seeing that this kind of fish is slowly coming back into the local river system, which is exactly what we wanted to see. It is a very good start, and we hope that more kinds of animals could have the chance to survive. "

It's reported that one million kinds of animals are in danger around the world, and a third of species living in freshwater areas are dying out. In Mexico, the community stepped in ——— local people worked with the scientists to take on long-term monitoring (监测) of the river network to make sure it is suitable for wildlife. So what they did to the Tequila fish is a sign that with people's help, nature can make a comeback. 

In today's class, the teacher handed every student a list of endangered animals. Alex asked Mario, "There are so many animals in 1 . Do you know any of them?"

When I finished primary school last summer, my family and I took  trip to four cities in the south of China.

First, we came to Nanjing by plane. It took us an hour and a half to fly there. We arrived in Nanjing in the morning.  11:30, we went to a restaurant to have lunch. The food tasted delicious. In the afternoon, we went to Zhongshanling. We heard a lot of(story).

The next day, we came to Suzhou to visit Zhouzhuang. It is an old place. It (have) a history of about 900 years.The houses there are along the river. People always wash  (they) clothes near the river and the river is still clear.

On the (three) day, we came to Hangzhou, and we visited the West Lake. It was very beautiful, and we saw fish swimming in the water. As we all know, Hangzhou is famous for silk and tea, so we (buy) some beautiful silk and nice tea.

On the last day, we visited Shanghai. We watched cars coming and going all day long. It was a  (real) busy city in China. The night view(景色) in Shanghai was hard to forget. Everything (be) excellent. We visited the TV tower.You could see the city from the high tower. This trip took us four days  we went back home by train.

There are different kinds of jobs in the world. Different people (choose) different jobs, for example doctors,writers, workers and so on. As for me,I'd like (become) a teacher. I have three  (reason).

First, I can have more (person) time, especially in summer and winter. I can teach my students in class. I can also take (they) to do useful activities after class. Actually, we can do some  (meaning) work together.

Second, I can read more books about different subjects. I enjoy (read) books about nature in my free time.I (be) interested in them and I will tell some to my students.

Third, being a teacher will help me  (stay) healthy, because I can take more exercise with my students. In PE classes or club activities, I can join them in their games or exercise. I will become much (strong) than before.
