For over 2, 000 years, people around the worldhave told the story of Atlantis, a civilization(文明) lost under the sea. But where was Atlantis? Was it real?
The earliest record ofAtlantis was written by the philosopher (哲学家) Plato around 360BC. According to Plato, about 9, 000 years before his time, there was an island in the Atlantic Ocean called Atlantis. After that, earthquakes and floods destroyed Atlantis, and in one day and night the island sank (下沉) below the sea.
From ancient times people have had different ideas about Plato's story. Some think it was real history, and others think it was just fiction.
