The world's highest ski place, Chacaltays, was closed after the 18, 000-year-old glacier(冰川) melted in 2009. Many scientists agree that the glaciers around the world would disappear in this century, much faster than we thought. 

As we all know, the reason for this is global warming. When certain gas such as carbon dioxide(CO₂) is largely emitted(排放) into the atmosphere, it causes the greenhouse effect(温室效应) which makesEarth warmer. 

As Earth becomes warmer, glaciers melt more quickly, and dark rocks are uncovered. Then these rocks take in more heart, causing the temperature to rise. As a result, the remaining snow on glaciers melts faster. 

The effects of global warming will be far-reaching and often devastating(毁灭性的). While the melting of glaciers may flood some areas of Earth, in other places, it is making water disappear. An increasing number of heat waves and droughts(干旱) worldwide will also change the face of the world in the future. 

Global warming is a real problem, and it is largely caused by human activities. Solving the problem is not easy, and there is no single magic way. However, we can begin it by lowering the amount of CO₂ in our daily lives. 

Peter Miller, along with his wife, took part in a scientific test to see how much CO₂ they could cut down in a month. The average US household produces about 80 kilos of CO₂, which was more than twice theEuropean average and almost five times the global average. Their final goal was to make less CO₂ than most American families. 

First, they found out how much CO₂ they were producing. Then they asked an expert for advice on how to reduce CO₂ emissions. According to the expert's advice, they made some changes to their house. replaced their lights, and changed some of their living habits. At the same time, they either biked, walked, or used public transportation. A month later, they saved70% on electricity, 40% on gas, and drove half as much as others. Their daily CO: emissions were less than the US average, at 32 kilos. 

Protect ing our planet starts small: Change a light, open a window, walk or bike. With a little effort and not much money, most of us can make a difference. 

Mintu Roy is from West Bengal, India. He has been dreaming of living in a house  (look) like the Titanic ship. It all started when he was a little kid  (live) in Kolkata. One year. during a festival. a Titanic-shaped pandal(临时棚舍)caught his eyes. He liked it very much and decided  (build) his Titanic-shaped house one day.

Although the house is unfinished, it has become famous in the area, Many people come  (see) the building and take photos of it. Roy hopes  (finish) it next year and live in it with his family. What a crazy and creative project!

Albert was mad about computer games. When people encouraged him  to normal life, he would say, "This is my doorway to the world. "

Albert's parents decided them his job. Albert had to learn all be could  the turtles. He also tried to make them  his room, but it never worked. Gradually, he got used to  with the turtles and even began to enjoy it. And other people loved hearing Albert's stories and his growing knowledge about nature.

Who should you write to? Think about a friend or relative that lives far away. A parent or best friend would also love to receive your letter. 

How do you write a letter? (general)speaking, a letter includes these parts: The date and a greeting such as" Dear …" should be at the top of the letter. A closing such as "Love" or" Yours truly" needs to follow the body. End it by (sign) it. 

Why should you pick up a pen to write a letter? It's  good way to show people that you have been thinking of them, Everyone loves a personal touch. It makes(enjoy) memories. Some people save (letter) and look at them over the years. 

A recent study shows that letter writing (make) the writer happy, too. "Handwriting is yourDNA. It's your fingerprint that only you can share with others, " said Richard Simpkin.  wonderful it is!
