I grew up in the countryside. I didn't understand what it brought to me until I became an adult. It helped me learn more practical skills than my peers(同龄人) who grew up in cities. The first skill I learned was making dough(面团). In my hometown of Ningxia, people make noodles from the start of the evening. Since my parents often came home late, a prepared dough would help my family have dinner sooner. I thought it would be easy because I often saw my mum do it— just mix water and flour(面粉), right? Not quite! It was a mess for a while. First, I made the dough too soft. Then, I made it too hard. But as I kept trying, I learned the trick(窍门).

Later, I cooked fried dishes and things like dumplings. I fell in love with cooking. It's a good way to relax.Thanks to my cooking skills, I live a better life when I need to work at home. I cook every meal instead of ordering delivery(外卖). It saves money, and I don't have to wait for delivery drivers to bring me food. This may be why I'm so happy to know that students now have labor(劳动) education at school in China. These practical skills will help us students for the rest of our lives.

Mistakes: The Magical Stepping Stones to Success

Mistakes are not something to be feared or sad about. Instead, they are"playful magicians". Mistakes can turn"Oops" moments into"Wow" experiences! Why are mistakes so magical?

Sometimes, mistakes can make wonderful things. For example, if milk goes bad, it can turn into yogurt. If it changes even more, it becomes cheese. Cheese is even more delicious. Grapes can also surprise us. When they get sour for a long time, they become wine. And wine is much more expensive than the grapes.

Mistakes can also make people famous. Christopher Columbus made a mistake when he tried to find a new road to Asia. Instead, he found America. Alexander Fleming made a mistake in his lab, but it led him to make penicillin(青霉素). The medicine saved millions of lives.

So, instead of being sad about mistakes, we should hug them and keep trying, because mistakes show us new ways to grow smarter. They are like special gifts from life that lead us to wonderful things. The mistakes we make today can become the stepping stones for our success tomorrow.

The 31st Summer Universiade was a great success for China and even for the world. The important meeting began on July 28th, 2023 and closed successfully on August 8th, 2023. And it provided a window into the city's rich culture and natural beauty.

As a volunteer, my role was to help the players in their everyday lives and make sure that they had an enjoyable experience during their stay in Chengdu. One of them was watching the ceremonies.

The fantastic shows made all people excited. People shouted all the time. Although we speak different languages, we were able to communicate through smiles, body language and a shared love for sports. Ilearned much from them. Of course, the hot food in Chengdu is so delicious that everyone just wants to stay inChengdu for a longer time. The most memorable(难忘的) one was the kindness of the Chengdu people. It made me feel warm just like at home. After the game, we went to watch cute pandas and visited some places of interest. What impressed(给······留下深刻印象) me most was the beautiful bronze ware(青铜器) in Sanxingdui Site. It felt like travelling back in time! I really had a great time.

As the first world-class sports event to be held in western China, the Chengdu 2021 FISU World UniversityGames was a success. It made the popularity of Chengdu and China rise. Its spirit will live on and the light of the games will continue to shine(发光) in the future.

A wise(明智的) man was on his long journey with a young man. In the evening, they found a small old house. A  family lived in it. The wise man asked how they made a living. In a low voice, the husband ,"We have a cow. We sell her  to our neighbours and keep some for our own ."

The next morning, the two  kept on their journey. After they walked a few miles, the wise man told the young man to go back and kill the cow."If they still keep the cow, they will never be rich," the wise man said. The young man was  about the future of the family. But finally he  to the old house and did as the wise man told him.

A few years later, the young man decided to visit the family. To  surprise, he saw a large house with a beautiful garden there.

He knocked on the door and a well-dressed man answered it. The man told him how his  life changed."We had nothing but a cow to keep us alive years ago. But one day she was killed. We had to come up with new ways of making a living. You see, we are  than before." At his words, the young man smiled.

①Costa Rica(哥斯达黎加) is not a traditional northern country. Here you do not have the turn of four different seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter. It only has two seasons: dry season and wet season. So for tourists, when is the best time to go to Costa Rica?

②Most people like visiting Costa Rica in the dry season. The sun shines brightly almost every day from December to April and people won't get wet. This allows them to visit more places during the trip.

③The best thing to do in Costa Rica in the dry season is to enjoy the beaches. The sunny weather allows people to enjoy the fun beach activities like swimming and surfing(冲浪). If you want quieter beaches perfect for swimming, you can visit the Gulf of Papagayo(帕帕加约湾) and Peninsula Papagayo(帕帕加约半岛). If you want beaches perfect for surfing, go to beaches like Tamarindo(塔马林多) and Playa Grande(格兰德海滩).

④The wet season is also great for vacation. The hotel price is not high and there are much fewer visitors around. In the wet season, Costa Rica shows its green scenery(风景). The rain from May to November helps the rainforest grow. Waterfalls get stronger as more water flows in the rivers. And, yes, you can go out and see all of this.

⑤The wet season doesn't mean that you can't leave your hotel. The rain usually comes in the afternoons and the mornings are often sunny and dry. So you are still able to enjoy the beautiful scenery in the rainy months of Costa Rica.

⑥So in which season would you like to visit Costa Rica?

Some students often complain(抱怨) about learning English. The subject, they say, takes up too much of their time. They have to read many passages, look up new words in the dictionary and do lots of exercises. Even though they work hard, they still can't get good scores on tests."Why?" they ask."How can I enjoy success?"The story of Chinese astronaut Deng Qingming might help to answer their questions.

Deng was chosen as an astronaut trainee in 1998. Since that day, he had spent almost all of his time training hard to become an astronaut. Over the years, Deng has seen other trainees go into space one after another. However, he was always a backup(后备人员). He often felt sad. Sometimes, he even cried.

But Deng never gave up. Although he was in his fifties, he kept training hard."I must be ready whenever the chance comes to me," he once said. Finally, on the night of November 29th, 2022, he and two other astronauts boarded(登上) the Shenzhou-15 Manned Spaceship and flew into space. Deng had waited 24 years for this very moment.

So, if you want to give up learning English or something else, think about Deng's story. Your efforts might not pay off right away. Be patient. Try to improve your methods and keep going. One day, success will knock at your door. Being different from Deng, you probably won't even have to wait 24 years for that moment!

Once a king got two nice falcons(猎鹰) from his son. He had never seen such beautiful falcons before.He loved them so much and he ordered the best falconer to train them to fly.

After several months, the king came to see how the training was going on. He found that one falcon had already been able to fly high in the sky, while the other was staying on the branch(树枝) of a tree quietly, just keeping still. The king called all his falconers together and ordered them to try every way they could to make the other falcon fly. But none of them succeeded. One day, while the king was taking a walk in the forest, an idea came to his mind. Maybe someone who knew the natural environment well could solve this problem. He sent for a farmer who lived in the forest into his palace to train it at once.

The next morning, the king saw the other falcon flying above in the sky freely."It is unbelievable!"shouted the king."How could you make it happen?" The farmer replied,"It's very easy. I just cut off the branch where the falcon rested." It is always the same to human beings. We all have"two flying wings" in our hearts as well, but we often seem not to notice them and stay where we are just for safety and comfort. We won't realize we can fly so high and freely until the"branch" we are resting on breaks.

There are lots of companies(公司) planning to send people into space the next few years.SpaceX is one of the most famous companies offering trips to space. In April, 2022, it (send) 8people into space. Now, what can space tourists do while in space? Here are some examples.

See the Earth from Space
