As a volunteer of the school magazine, I'm glad to have the chance to introduce China to you. 

Last March I lost my camera while I was on a school trip. I left it on the bus on the way back to  (we) school. I called the bus company the next day  (check) if they could find it, but it wasn't there. My parents got really angry and told me they couldn't buy me a new one.

A garden is much more than just creating a beautiful environment. It can be a way to save or even make money and, more than that, it can be a place where you can express yourself. For me, it's a bit of all these things. I know it may sound strange for a 13-year. old girl to be interested in gardening, but I have always been and I would love to make a career （职业） out of it. 

I have learned many things these past few years. I have been reading about and doing some gardening. So, here is my top advice about gardening. First, you do not need to spend a lot of money to have a beautiful garden. Some of the gardens that I think are the prettiest are just lines of plants. There aren't many garden decorations （装饰） and pathways. It's just beautiful plants with fruits and vegetables. We can also find many useful things for free, from pieces of old wood to old pots and pans. Or, we can build things for free from materials that other people have thrown away. 

If you just remember that planting what is more than you need will take the stress away of losing some plants, you will save yourself a lot of worry, too. Besides, you need to ask yourself which plants produce enough food to make them worth growing. I actually sat down and did the maths on that one this spring. It amazed me what some plants were worth. A tomato, for example, can produce £50-£150 worth of fruit. It takes up a lot of space but that's a lot of money coming out of a 50-pence seed （种子孙）!So if I had known earlier what each plant could save us, I would have told my parents to fill our garden with different plants. 

And finally, gardening doesn't have to be all or nothing. But then I guess that's more of a personality weakness than anything. I struggle with doing things a little at a time. Once I decide to do something, I usually devote every waking hour to it for a little while and then get tired. So it's okay to just have one tomato plant, and it's okay to have an off year. It will save you a lot of stress. 

Why do We Yawn? 

Do you yawn? There are about 20 reasons that scientists think are possible for yawning after research. They do not know exactly why yawning happens, but they do know many facts about yawning. 

We know that everyone yawns in the same way. First you open your mouth slowly. Your mouth stays open for about five seconds. You take in a lot of air and then push it out. Then you quickly close your mouth. We also know that yawning is contagious. When you see someone yawn, you yawn, too. 

Many people say they yawn because they are bored or tired. That might be true. People do often yawn before they sleep and after they wake up. However, we know that people also yawn when they are excited or nervous. Olympic runners, for example, often yawn before a race. Why is that? In 2007, scientists found that a yawn can help a warm brain cool down. 

Some scientists believe that yawning makes you notice things more quickly. When you yawn, you breathe deeply. You also stretch （强化） the muscles （肌肉） in your face, mouth, and neck. Your eardrums stretch, too. Maybe this helps you to be quicker to notice things. 

In some countries, people think yawning is not nice. People put their hands over their mouths to cover a yawn. In other countries, people think yawning is healthy. They think that opening the mouth very big can let good things in. When they breathe out, they think that bad things go out of the body with the air. 

Scientists do not spend much time studying yawning. That is probably because yawning does not hurt. It is just something we do. 

Like most parents, mine spent much time advising me to take part in activities outside school. However, they never forced me, and I never found anything I was interested in. Then one day a friend at school told me about a local dance group and asked if I wanted to go with her. So after school we went to talk to the dance teacher. She explained everything to us and we both decided to join. 

My parents were really pleased to hear I'd finally chosen dancing. They think if you develop an interest in doing something yourself, it will be easier to succeed. 

I've now been attending the dancing classes for 3 years and I really enjoy it. We are organized into age groups, and at 16 I'm now in the oldest class. There are classes of swing dance, ballet （芭蕾舞）, street dance and folk dance. I practice street dance and I'm quite good at it. I also help out leading some of the younger children. 

We also take part in events like local and even national dance shows, and relatives turn up to see their children perform. My parents are proud of me as they tell me all the time. 

Now I'll be too old to continue dancing with the group. However, I have already made plans to continue with them. The dance school has become very successful and is opening new classes. The director has asked if I'd like to be one of the group leaders and of course I said "yes"!

When you practice reading, you are not only repeating the words on the page, but also improving your reading abilities, learning and using background knowledge and learning new vocabulary, etc. While reading, you will learn around one new word for every 1, 000 words you read. 

We did a survey about reading times among 300 students. The diagram （图表） shows the result of the survey. 

According to the survey, there is a huge difference between the number of vocabulary words learned by students who read for less than 15 minutes daily and 30+ minutes every day. Unfortunately, the study also shows that the kids who read for half an hour or more daily take up less than 20% of students-about 50% of students read less than 15 minutes.

When you miss a day, or even a class, it's easy to fall behind. The best way to stay with the development of the class is to be there! If you have to miss a class, make sure you meet with your teacher to find out what you missed. Don't write down everything, just the main points. 

Ask questions. Believe it or not, most teachers want you to learn and they are always there to help you. If you aren't comfortable asking questions in front of the class, go to talk to the teacher after class. 

Take your homework seriously. Like it or not, homework is a necessary part of school. There's not much you can do to get around it. If possible, you can find a study partner and do homework with him or her. 

Try new things and get new friends. Try a new sport, something you think you will be good at. If sports aren't your thing, try joining a club. Keep your old friends, but get some new ones, too. 

Remember, it's up to you to decide what kind of school year you're going to have. Make full use of it while you can!

As teenagers, we are the future of our homeland. We should develop ourselves fully. But how? Here are my opinions. 

It was a fine day. The sun was shining and the wind was gentle. 

The kids in their backyard when a little cat tried to cross into their yard.

When you come to a new school, you'll feel strange at first. You have no friends and feel at times. My suggestion is to be active to take any to have conversations with your new classmates. And you can also go to their parties,  their birthday parties. At the party, don't just sit in  at the corner. Learn to trust your new classmates. You should offer to talk with them. You can talk about your and when they try to help you solve the problems, they can become your close friends. I'm sure something and friendly will touch your heart and it is like a hidden . Day by day, you'll have a wide of friends. them you can probably find your best friend and you'll stick together like . Life will be easy for you. 

What happens when you and your friend argue（吵）?What should you do when he or she gets angry or upset with you?Here is some useful advice. 

Stay calm. When we're angry, we might say things that aren't kind. It's always better to keep cool and think carefully before we speak. Count to ten in your head, and if you can't relax, walk away. Sometimes you have to do that. 

Listen first. Give the other person a chance to speak without interrupting him or her. You have to listen carefully and pay attention to your friend's face and body language. Try to imagine how your friend is probably feeling at that moment. 

Be clear and kind. You have to be honest about your thoughts and feelings. Explain the problem clearly and say what you need from your friend. Say your words carefully and try to be nice to your friend. You don't want to start another argument! 

Admit your mistakes. Remember that even the best people make mistakes and nobody is perfect. It's OK to make mistakes, but we have to admit them and then say we're sorry. 

Think together. Two heads are always better than one. You should have a conversation with your friend about how you could solve the problem. And you don't have to keep it a secret. You can get help from another friend or an adult. Don't be shy to ask for it. 

Live and learn. Arguments are a normal part of life, and we don't have to worry about every disagreement. But we should try to learn from them. After all, we don't want to repeat the same mistakes again! Think about what happened, and remember that lesson for the future. 

People use laughter to communicate with others. It's how we tell friends that we find their jokes funny, or how kids in a park show that they are having fun. Humans laugh to express many kinds of feelings, from happy to sad, from like to hate and so on. But how about animals?Do they also laugh?If they do laugh, is there a connection between animals' laughing and playing? 

A study shows that not only humans but also some animals enjoy good laughter. Scientists at the University of California, Los Angeles （UCLA） suggested that a number of animals can laugh. Through their research, they found that 65 kinds or groups of animals laugh while playing. The animals that laugh the most include monkeys, rats and dolphins. 

Animal sound sometimes is like a short laughter, but scientists said that not all of these are connected to playing. After all, animals sometimes make sound as if they are laughing but in fact, they are in danger, or perhaps they are using it to fight with animals that may eat them. 

Sasha Winkler, a scientist studying animal behavior, noticed that the small monkeys she worked with liked to play together by catching each other. While having fun together, they made panting sounds, almost like they were out of breath, which reminded Winkler of quiet laughter. In that sense, researchers pointed out very interesting ideas of laughter and panting. They believe that laughter come from heavy breathing during play. 

Study suggests that many animals laugh so that their playing partner knows they are having fun. This is important because animal play can sometimes look like fighting. Laughter becomes a way for animals to stop harmful act when communicating with others. Some animals also make a "play face" like a smile to show that they are happy and not angry. 

One big difference between human laughter and animal laughter is that humans laugh much more loudly. Most sounds animals make during play are very quiet so they can only be heard by the animal they are playing with. But for humans, loud laughter is a sign that we're part of a group. "It's really amazing that so many animals have a similar function （功能） of sound during play, " said Winkler. "These special parts of animal laughter will also be an important area for future study. "
