Hagley is a small town. It takes two hours to get there from London by bus. In Hagley, there is a small lake. There are lots of trees and flowers around the lake. I often walk around the lake with my family on Sunday afternoon. There is a long way from Hagley to big cities, so there is no pollution (污染) and the air is very clean. 

Hagley has two schools—one primary school and one middle school. Both of them are very good. I go to the middle school and my younger brother goes to the primary school. There is no underground (地铁) in the town, so I usually walk or ride a bike to school. 

There are lots of things to do in Hagley. I like going to the shops at the weekend. The shops here are wonderful. Sometimes my parents take me to the local theatre to see a play. On Tuesday I go swimming at the local swimming pool. On Friday I go to the youth centre to see my friends. Once a month my family eat in a restaurant. There are a lot of restaurants in Hagley. Most of them are Western restaurants, but there is one Chinese restaurant too. 

Let me tell you something about my hometown. It is a very beautiful town with mountains and seas. T of people visit my hometown every year. In summer, it is very cool and people like to s happily in the sea. Also, there are many popular seafood r in my hometown. They provide the best fish for the V . What's more, the l people like to make friends with you. They are friendly and h . If there is something wrong with you, they will be happy to help you d with the problems. For example, when your mobile phone doesn't work, the engineers are able to r it. 

If you have time to travel, I r you to visit my hometown. It is well w a visit. 

My hometown is a very beautiful town near the sea.  Our old town center was built in the 1500s. It's a place where visitors can go back in time to a different world in the past. 

 However, farming is not the only way that the local people make money. Visitors from all over the world are coming to learn about the town and its history and spend money.  Many people think that tourism (旅游业) will decide the future of the town. 

"This is an easier way to make money. Now we have a very good chance (机会) to develop tourism and help us," some people say.  The local environment has become worse because of pollution (污染). 

The local people want to make money, but they also know they have to be careful. They have to make some important decisions.  No one knows the answer. The future of their beautiful town may depend on the decisions they make today. 

Welcome to Classic Reading. I'm your host, Jordon. While living in China for the past seven years, I've become interested in Chinese culture, especially classical Chinese poetry (诗). I have also known some Chinese poets, such as Li Bai and Du Fu. Today, I will talk about a poem from the Tang Dynasty by the poet He Zhizhang. 

Here is an English version (版本) of the poem by Xu Yuanchong, a world-famous translator (翻译家) of ancient Chinese poems in both English and French. Let's take a look at his translation. 

Oh, I return to the homeland I left while young.

Thinner has grown my hair, though I speak the same tongue.

My children, whom I meet, do not know who am I.

"Where are you from, dear sir?" they ask with beaming eyes.

In this short poem, He Zhizhang tells a story about a visit to his birthplace (出生地). It's been many years since the last time he was home, but he could still pick up his local accent (口音). Things did not change much, but the people did. The poet had mixed feelings about it, so he wrote this poem. 

Personally, I like this poem because it reminds (使想起) me of my own hometown. No matter where I live or how long I've left, my hometown and family will always have a special place in my heart.
