What do you know about jungles (丛林)? Have you ever been in the jungle? Jungles are very beautiful places but they can be dangerous as well. You should be well prepared when you go to the jungle. Remember these important tips in case (以防万一) you get lost. 

Find a hill.Climb a hill.  When you've found a hill, look to see if there is a river. You can follow the river out of the jungle safely. 

Make a safe camp. It isn't safe to camp near trees because trees and branches (树枝) can sometimes fall. 

Keep insects away.Take strong insect repellent (驱虫剂) to keep dangerous insects away.  Some insects like to hide in shoes and they will bite or sting (叮) you. 

Drink lots of clean water.It's hot in the jungle, so it's important to drink enough water. Have you run out of water? Boil (煮沸) some water from a river to make it clean and safe to drink. 

Look up at the sky. 

Remember these tips and your trip to the jungle will be a lot safer! 

The Amazon is the world's biggest rainforest. It is in South America. It is so wide that it covers a little more than the half size of China! The Amazon River runs through the rainforest. It's the world's second longest river. The Amazon covers much of Brazil. The green colour on the national flag of Brazil stands for the rainforest. 

However, climate (气候) change and human activities make it "sick". Usually, the rainforest can fix itself. But now, it feels too "tired" to get better. According to a new study, many trees there may die, and the Amazon rainforest may turn into hot, dry grassland in a few years. 

Why is the Amazon "sick"? 

The Amazon is one of the world's wettest places. But since 2005, three droughts have hit the rainforest. They were caused by climate change. The trees don't have enough water to grow. What's worse, as they become dry, they can easily catch fire. 

Besides, people cut down rainforest trees for wood. They burn the forest to make farmland. All these kind of activities made about 17% of the rainforest disappear.

The Amazon is like the lungs (肺) of our planet. The rich plants there take carbon dioxide (CO2) out of the air and make oxygen. They make more than 20% of the planet's oxygen. If the Amazon "dies", there will be more CO2 and our Earth will become even hotter. 

The Amazon is also home to over 3 million animals and plants. Many of them can't live anywhere else. They would very likely just disappear. 

① I still remember last year's Talent Show in our school clearly. It was a big event, and everybody was excited to show their skills at the Talent Show. 

② A week before the Talent Show, we started preparing. My classmate Becky played the piano really well. Her fingers danced on the keys, and the music always made us feel happy. Julie was great at singing English songs—her voice was so sweet. Jeff loved Chinese kung fu and could show cool moves. After school, they were all busy preparing for the show. But I had nothing to do. What could I do? 

③ To my surprise, my classmate, Laura, asked me to be an actor for a puppet show (木偶戏) at the opening ceremony (开幕式) with her! "Me? Can I?" "Yes!" she answered. When I was free, I studied the play carefully and practised it really hard. I also learned from my classmates when I did something wrong. Finally, the opening-ceremony puppet show was amazing. Everyone in my class gave me a big hand. I cried and felt happy. 

④ Two days later, I shared an English story at the Talent Show. I never did that before. I worried about it at first. But I didn't want to give up. I looked for some useful ways on the Internet and asked my teachers for some help. When the big day finally came, I told the story really well. Many people came to watch the show, and they cheered loudly for me. I was so proud of myself! 

⑤ Now, I feel much more confident (自信的). I start to think about what to do for next year's Talent Show—to show myself again! 

A young girl was walking back home with her grandma.

Can you imagine a sea of sand three times bigger than India? This is the Sahara Desert, the largest hot desert in the world. It lies in 11 countries in North Africa and is over 9 million square kilometres. 

In the Sahara, temperatures are very different during the day and at night. It is much hotter during the day than at night. During the day, the temperature can rise to 33℃. But at night, it can fall to-1℃. 

Because of the extreme（极端的）temperatures, the desert is not an ideal place for people to settle（定居）. However, here are still some tips for travellers. 

Take warm clothes and a blanket. You will need a hat, long trousers and a thick sweater to keep you warm at night. During the day, cover your body, head and face. Clothes protect you from the sun and keep water in your body. You will also need a warm blanket at night. It can get cold quickly. When the temperature drops, it makes you feel even colder. 

Try to drink some water at least once every hour. You need your water to last as long as possible. Drink only what you need. If you eat, you will get thirsty and your water will run out soon. You can eat a little, but only to stop you from feeling very hungry. Eat a little food slowly. 

It's important to stay out of the sun during the day. Make a hole under your car and lie there. This will keep you cool and help you sleep. Find a warm place to sleep at night. A small place near a tree or a rock will be the warmest. But be careful before you decide where to sleep. Dangerous animals like snakes also like to sleep in these places. Look carefully for such animals before you lie down. 

Last summer, I went on a two-day trip to the Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area. The area is about 360 kilometres (northern) of Chengdu, the capital of Sichuan Province. It is a magical（奇妙的）land of mountains and forests. It is famous for the" four (wonder)" of colourful ponds （池塘）, snow mountains, alpine gorges（高山峡谷） forests. In the area, there are more than 1, 500 (difference) kinds of higher plants. It is also home  many protected animals. Some of them, such as giant pandas, are rare and (most) live in China. 

Early in the morning of the (one) day of my trip, I flew to Jiuzhai-Huanglong Airport. Then I took a bus and got to the Huanglong Scenic and Historic Interest Area an hour later. I noticed many colourful ponds in different sizes while walking around the area. They looked really beautiful! I even saw a cute little golden monkey (play) in the trees. To my surprise, it was not afraid  people. I had great fun wandering（闲逛）around the gorges. The fresh air made me (feeling) comfortable. 

I stayed there for two days and took lots of photos. I plan to visit there again with my friends in the future.
