① Welcome to Qomolangma! It's the highest mountain on the Earth. Here, you can see snowy mountains under the blue sky.

It is very cold here, with little  oxygen(氧气). Yaks may be the only animals you can find. They have long hair to keep warm. They are very powerful and can walk on small paths, so people call  yaks"the ships of the highland".

One day, Marina the mermaid went to see the sea witch(女巫)."Please turn me into a girl! I want to go to land right now!" she said.

"Why do you want to leave the sea?" the witch asked."Don't you love our beautiful home?"

"Of course I do," Marina answered." But it's not beautiful anymore! The sea is full of litter.The water isn't clear. Many sea animals die. I must find out why this is happening. I want to save my home and my friends."

The witch was moved. She turned Marina into a girl, and sent her to land.

On land, Marina saw many tall buildings and factories pouring dirty water into the sea. A fisherman on a boat threw a milk bottle into the sea."Stop littering in the sea!" Marina shouted at him. But the man just looked away and threw more litter into the water.

Marina felt very sad and hopeless. Just when she wanted to go back to the sea, she saw a notice: there would be a town meeting about sea protection(保护) at the town hall that afternoon. She knew this was her chance(机会)to save her home. So she headed to the town hall.

Cultural differences of"old"

I'm Jack. When my family moved to America in 2010 from a small village in Guangdong, China, we brought not only our luggage, but also our village rules, customs and culture. One of the rules is that young people should always respect elders.

Unluckily, this rule led to my very first embarrassment in the United States.

I had a part time job as a waiter in a Chinese restaurant. Once, when I was serving food to the Smiths, Mrs.Smith asked me how the food could be served so quickly. I answered"I made sure you got your food quickly because I always respect the elderly." As soon as I said that, her face showed great displeasure. My manager took me aside and told me how sensitive(敏感的) Americans are and how they dislike the description"old". I then walked back to the table and apologized to Mrs. Smith. After Mrs. Smith heard my reason, she laughed and was no longer angry.

In my village in China, people are proud of being old and they respect the elderly most. Young people always hope to have more knowledge and experience just as the elderly do.

However, in the United States, people think"growing old" is a problem since"old" shows that a person is going to retire(退休) or that the body is not working well. Here many people try to keep themselves away from growing old. Exercising, jogging, and putting on makeup are common ways for them to look young.

After that, I changed the way I had been with older people. It is not that I don't respect them any more;I still respect them, but now I don't show my feelings through words. And I will learn more about cultural differences to avoid making mistakes when communicating with people in different countries.

On May 23rd, a sudden terrible heavy rain hit Chongqing. The rain kept pouring for several hours, causing serious floods in many areas.When the storm broke out at 11 pm, most people (stay) at home.They could hear strong wind outside and felt quite afraid. Soon, streets and roads were filled floodwater. Many houses and shops were in deep water, and some people were in great danger.

A young Chinese football team called Chinese Football Boy 2014Team(U12) won the championship(冠军) at Italy's Sigismondi Cup from May 30to June 2, 2026. The event brought together 48 top youth teams from around the world, including some famous European clubs like Everton, Fiorentina, andCopenhagen. Facing such strong teams, the Chinese team was not nervous at all and showed great team spirit.

Over the seven matches, the team scored 21 goals and only let in 2 goals. Their excellent skills surprised everyone at the match. News of their success was shared quickly online and won warm praise from Chinese fans.  Many people left encouraging messages online and spoke highly of these young players. This trip toEurope proved that young  Chinese  footballers can compete(竞争)  with top European teams. It also encourages more children to follow their love for football and keep working hard for their dreams. As one young player put it after the match;"No one will look down on China anymore, because we are here." What was once a hopeful wish has become true. When the youth are strong, the nation is strong.

In April 2026, a special movie called Dear You was on show during the May Day holiday. This low-cost movie had no famous actors or amazing special effects. However,after it came out, its box office was over 20 million yuan on May 1. Many viewers were moved to tears and called it the most touching movie of the holiday.

The movie tells a story about an old grandmother Ye Shuru. She spends most of her life waiting for qiaopi(侨批), special letters with money inside from her husband in Southeast Asia.Nearly 90% of the movie's stories come from real life. There is a surprising twist in the movie. When Ye Shuru's grandson looks for his grandfather in Thailand, he finds out the truth.Most of the letters are not written by his grandfather, but a kind woman Xie Nanzhi. To protectYe Shuru from sadness, Xie secretly writes letters, pretending to be her husband for 20 years.

The film is moving because it uses local dialect(方言) and real local customs. What's more, most actors are unknown people from the local area. As the last work of director Lan Hongchun's movie series(系列), this movie is not only a love letter to the grandmother, but also one to all overseas Chinese. It shows the good qualities ofChinese people and touches every viewer's heart.
