One day, when a young king went out to hunt deer, he carelessly became separated from others. Wandering around, the king saw a farmhouse that was surrounded by a garden, and inside the garden was a young woman.

The king then ordered a soldier to carry a new jar without handles to the young woman's house. The soldier told the young woman that the jar was from the king and she should put a whole enough big pumpkin inside the jar with a small opening at the top. And the soldier also said that the king wanted the jar and the pumpkin must remain whole.

The young woman returned a message to the king that such a task might take a long time. In fact, it was several months before the young woman arrived at the palace. In her hands she held the same jar, and sure enough, a whole pumpkin sat inside it. The king was amazed that he had no idea how she could have brought this about!

Here was her answer to the king: She had placed a pumpkin bud (花蕾), which was still connected to a vine (藤蔓) in the ground, inside the jar through its small opening. As time flies, the pumpkin bud grew into a full-sized pumpkin.

When I was fifteen, I went to a summer camp. There were lots of attractive1 , but there was one thing I was really scared about: climbing the wall.

Huang Qian is a 28-year-old model. She keeps her slim body shape by going to the gym and following a strict diet. Eight months ago, she added baduanjin (八段锦) to her daily exercise. Baduanjin is a traditional Chinese fitness exercise. It is easy to practice because it only has eight steps that improve body and mind. Besides, it doesn't need much space or time.

When Huang first saw baduanjin on TV, she thought it was only for the old. But since she had health problems and was told doing baduanjin could help, she decided to give it a try. Now, Huang practices it for half an hour every morning. She says it does help her relax and feel full of energy.

Like Huang, nowadays, a great number of young people, including students and office workers, are taking up the practice of baduanjin. One of the key reasons for its rising popularity is that it helps people who suffered from viruses (病毒) before stay healthy. Second, it is easy to follow and can help people lower stress. Moreover, people can practice baduanjin at almost any time and anywhere. For example, you can practice a standing posture (姿势) by the table after sitting in front of the computer for a long time. Just like hanfu and traditional music, traditional sports are making a return to daily life.

①Qinqiang Opera is one of the earliest forms of opera in China. It started from the ancient folk songs and dances of the Han people in Shaanxi and Gansu provinces. According to historical records, the local opera dates all the way back to the Qin Dynasty. Qinqiang Opera shows the daily life and feelings of ancient Chinese people. In 2006, Qinqiang Opera was added to national intangible heritage list (非物质文化遗产名录).

②Hou Yan, 48, the master of Qinqiang Opera started learning it from her mother when she was 4 years old. Training in the basic skills of Qinqiang Opera is very challenging. In 1985, Hou studied at an art school in Ningxia where teachers were very strict with students. Leg stretching (伸展), waist bending (弯曲) and somersaults (翻筋斗) were just some of her daily training routines. Her hard work paid off. Hou became a performer with a troupe (剧团) at the age of 16.

③But since 1993, the sweeping trend (趋势) of pop and Western music has hit Qinqiang Opera hard. The troupe was closed and Hou had no choice but to leave the opera stage she loved.

④After 1995, however, China has made great efforts to develop its traditional culture. Hou returned to the stage in 2000 and devoted herself to the opera form. "I knew I'd planted my roots on the opera stage," said Hou. Now, Hou's team presents hundreds of Qinqiang Opera performances every year in the towns and villages of Ningxia. The average age of Hou's opera team is 30. In 2021, they staged about 150 school performances.

⑤"As we become more confident about our culture, more young people take traditional culture as a fashionable trend and become promoters of our own culture." says Hou.

As a medical student from Bangladesh, Sophia had long heard about the"magic" of Traditional Chinese Medi-cine(TCM). Sophia neverto  experience it in person until she visited Yunfu, a beautiful city in southern China.

One sunny morning, Sophia visited a local medical herb(药草) with her Chinese friend. As soon as they stepped through the gate, a fresh and pleasant smell of herbs swept over . The air was filled with the earthy smell mixed with the smell of all kinds of. Sophia picked some green leaves  , and her friend told her these were used to make herbal tea for clearing heat.

Later, they went to a TCM clinic(诊所), where an old doctor showed Sophia how to turn herbsmedicine. The doctor also told her about the use of different herbs."I even got a chance to  a cup of warm herbal soup, which was bitter(苦的) at first but left a sweet aftertaste." The most  part was trying moxibustion(艾灸)."It made me feel comfortable," Sophia said to her friend. It was surprising for Sophia to see how TCM uses natural things to help people stay .

From this trip, Sophia understood TCM is not only about"magic" things,   it's the wisdom that connects humans with nature. She will never forget this special experience in Yunfu.

Leo Martinez is a student from Mexico who loves science very much. Last year, he1 a small rocket that could carry a mini satellite(微型卫星). His interest in space began when he joined the school science club, where he learned how satellites help people predict(预测) the weather and2 with each other far away.
