Huaping, Yunnan, is one of the poorest areas in China. However, one school there has made a big difference. Over the past12 years, it has sent 1, 800 poor girls to universities.

Zhang Guimei began to teach in Huaping twenty years ago. Many of her girl students would disappear just before they finished their studies. Zhang wanted to know why. She learned that these girls were from very poor families. They were forced(被迫) to work at a young age. "I really want to study, " one girl cried and told Zhang. 

Zhang wanted to change this. She collected money and, in 2008, built the Huaping High School for Girls. It is China's first and only free(免费的) high school for girls. "You are welcome here if you want to study, " said Zhang. 

It's tiring to run such a school. Zhang is now in poor health after all these years of hard work. She has to take many different pills(药片) every day. However, she still puts in all her time and effort because the school and the students are more important to her than anything else. Zhang is really like a beacon(灯塔) of hope for the young girls in Huaping. 

The first International Basketball Expo(国际篮球博览会) is from 8th November to 12th, in Fujian. In the Basketball Expo, we can see great love for the sport. 

Song Yihong loves basketball very much. He is 11 years old now. He has played basketball for 6 years. At first, he does this sport because he wants to be tall. "I'm too short. I'm not happy about that. And my mother wants me to keep healthy, so I play basketball. " He plays basketball every Thursday and Friday evening, and also Sunday afternoon. 

At first, he finds it difficult but now he thinks it interesting and useful. He thanks his PE teacher and friends very much because they give him much help. He thinks he is ready(准备好的) to meet difficult things because basketball helps him to be strong(强壮的). 

"I know many students love basketball too, but they think it's not easy. Don't be afraid(害怕的). Just play and you can have fun!"

Peng Lanxi, an 18-year-old student from Hunan, goes to Hunan University(大学) of Science and Technology. He always dreams(梦想) of making better prosthetic limbs(假肢) for people like him. 

His life is not easy. In 2005, he lost his legs in an accident(事故), but he doesn't feel sorry for himself. He learns to use his hands to walk. After years of learning, he can"walk" as fast as other people. At last, he can go to school by himself. In his friends' and teachers' eyes, Peng Lanxi is a good student with great courage(勇气). Also, Peng Lanxi is good at sports and he can do many kinds of sports. On his wheelchair, he plays basketball. He also goes swimming every week. 

Peng Lanxi lost his legs, but he still has a happy life. "I think life is like a mirror(镜子). You smile at him and he smiles back, "Peng Lanxi says. 

Mary and Gina are twin sisters. Their birthday is on 20thFebruary. Now they are talking about their 1 .

Do you like washing the dishes? It's a daily chore for every family in China. A study shows that it can take up to an hour and a half to wash the dishes, clean pots and tidy up the kitchen. Many people think this chore is tiring. Then a China-made dishwasher is the perfect answer to free up time and bring happiness.

"I bought a dishwasher when I decorated my new home. The dishes are clean after washing, and it saves time for me to do other things," said Wu Peng, an office worker from Guangzhou.

Dishwashers went into our lives in the late 1980s. At that time, they were too expensive for most people, so only some rich families used them. However, in 2015, a Chinese company created the world's first sink dishwasher (水槽洗碗机). This helped the market grow and made dishwashers more common among Chinese families.

In 2023, the dishwashers made in China sold more than the dishwashers from other countries for the first time. In that year, China sold about 1.94 million (百万) dishwashers in China and about 5.8 million dishwashers in other countries. Chinese dishwashers can be so successful because they can clean dishes better and save energy. "The dishwashers are smart and we just need to start them through a button (按钮). And washing the dishes is not boring at all. All my family are happy to do that," a woman from Chengdu said.

With more and more people around the world looking for a comfortable life, dishwashers can be a great help. As technology keeps improving, the need for dishwashers in China is expected to keep growing. In the future, there may be a dishwasher in every family.

Matt is a primary school student who loves playing with little animals. One day, when he was on (he) way to school, he saw a homeless cat sitting in a box. It was a black-and-white cat with bright eyes. The cat was so cute Matt couldn't help playing with it.
