Dear Li Hua,
Thanks for your e-mail. To answer your question, there are some differences in the school routine between yours and ours.
In Russia, the school year starts on September 1st and usually ends in late May of the following year. September 1st is called the "Day of Knowledge." On this day, we give flowers to teachers and celebrate the beginning of the new learning year.
The school year has four terms. There is a holiday between two terms. The summer holiday is the longest one. It is from late May to August 31st. We usually spend it with our family and our good friends. It's really a wonderful time for every one of us.
The school day is from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. We can do our favorite things after school. For example, I take a Chinese class on Monday and Thursday afternoons. My friend Judy learns to play the violin in the music club.
It's wonderful to stay in the same class from the 1st to 10th or 11th grade. It makes us build strong friendships.
From September to May, our school year lets us see the beautiful seasons: colorful autumn, snowy winter, and fresh spring. It also helps us fall in love with study.
I hope we both have a good time at school.
Yours,
Anna

When you have good friends, the best way to get to know them better is to have a sleepover. Let me tell you more about it.
Some have them once a week or just once a month. When you want to have a sleepover with your friends, your parents usually call or text your friends' parents to ask about a suitable date first. The last step is to finish your homework before you get together with your friends so you can enjoy your time together.
But there is one problem: What if the parents don't want so many children to be in the house all day? It could be a park, a swimming pool, a theater or just somewhere down the road.
You can have a water fight in the garden. You can play hide-and-seek in the house. When you play, you can enjoy delicious food and drinks. I believe you'll have a good time with your friends.

When things around the house stop working, what do you usually do with them? If you're like a lot of people, you probably just throw them away.
In some areas, it's difficult to find people who can make repairs, and fixing things can be quite expensive. Also, some small objects are so inexpensive that it's often easier to just buy a new one.
In 2009, Martine Postma from the Netherlands decided there must be a better way. Her solution was Repair Cafés: places where people can take broken items. There they will find tools, resources and volunteer experts who are ready to help with repairs.
Postma's first Repair Café opened on Oct. 18th, 2009, in Amsterdam, and was a huge success. News of the café spread, and people began asking how they could start their own. In 2011, Postma set up the Repair Café Foundation. This non-profit organization provides guidance for those hoping to begin their own neighbourhood repair group.
Today, there are about 2,000 Repair Cafés around the world with meetings usually taking place once a month. Around 25 objects are repaired during each meeting. Everything is free, but donations are greatly welcome.
The cafés not only provide help with repairs, they also strengthen community ties. Neighbours get to know one another as they work together on projects. Moreover, valuable knowledge is passed along and preserved. Items are kept rather than thrown away, so there is less meaningless rubbish in landfills.

Seven years ago, ecologists looking to restore(恢复) the Doty Ravine in Lincoln, California, had to choose between spending over $1 million bringing in heavy equipment or trying a more natural way. They went for the second choice, and turned to nature's original flood manager to do the work—— the bear(河狸).
The creek bed(河床), which was changed by many years of agricultural(农业) use, had looked like a wildfire risk. But it came back to life far faster than expected after the beavers went to work. As a country strong in math, China has many folk games filled with math wisdom. You may have played many of them before. Let's take a look at three Chinese classical intelligence games—— Tangram, Nine Linked Rings(九连环) and Huarong Road.
① First popular in the Ming and Qing dynasties, the Tangram is a game made up of seven pieces of different shapes, including five triangles, a square and a parallelogram. Players need to use these seven pieces to create new shapes. To do it, they must know about plane geometry(平面几何). In the 18th century, the game spread to the West and soon became popular there.
② The Nine Linked Rings puzzle has a history of over 2,000 years. It is made up of nine rings connected to a handle(手柄). Players need to move all the rings from the handle to win the game. This is not a simple game. For example, if you want to move the ninth ring, you have to move the third, fifth and seventh ones first, or you will not be able to do it.
③ The Huarong Road puzzle is a block-moving game. It first appeared in the early 20th century. Each block is named after a character in the novel Romance of the Three Kingdoms, like Cao Cao, Guan Yu and Zhao Yun. To win the game, players need to move the blocks to get Cao Cao out.
