You may have heard of the story of Nüwa fixing the sky. But have you ever thought why she needed to do so? According to Liezi, an ancient Chinese philosophical work, the reason was a fight between the two gods—Gonggong (共工) and Zhuanxu (颛顼). Gonggong is a water god. He once fought with Zhuanxu because he wanted to change the water policy to help irrigation (灌溉). However, he was about to lose. Gonggong got so angry that he used his head to break Mount Buzhou (不周山).

The mountain was very important because it held up the sky in the northwest. When it broke, many things in nature changed. The sky leaned (倾斜) down toward the northwest, bringing disasters to people. Nüwa felt sorry for them, so she used stones to fix the sky.

Mount Buzhou appears in many Chinese stories. It first appeared in The Classic of Mountains and Seas(《山海经》): "Beyond the northwest sea, in the farthest corner of the wilderness, there is a broken mountain called ‘Buzhou' (meaning unclosed)". The text tells us where it is and why it's called Buzhou. Other stories describe the place as cold and snowy, making it very difficult for people to get there.

Today, the stories are still popular. People can see Mount Buzhou in poems, games and popular fantasy dramas (仙侠剧). It also shows people's hope to learn about the unknown world and adds a mysterious touch to these stories.

Success is often thought to be the opposite  failure. To teenagers, it is the achievement of a goal or completion of something they really need, such as good grades and the ability to get on  (good) with their classmates. Some schools used to agree with most parents who measured (判定) success according to grades,  now they pay more attention to moral (道德的) education and character-building to make sure teenagers succeed in  (build)human relationships.

Have you ever wondered what your pets are feeling? When your dog wags (摇摆) its tail, does that mean it is happy? 

The app uses artificial intelligence (AI) to analyze (分析) cats' and dogs' facial expressions.  It can show the five most common feelings—happy, angry, neutral (中性), sad and scared.

 The key technology that they use in the app is facial recognition, a common use of AI. We can access our mobile phones or enter train stations with facial recognition readers. But this is the first time that the tech has been used with animals.

The app's AI was first taught to recognize pictures of animals. Then, it was trained to recognize the facial features (特征) of cats and dogs.  For example, if a dog tightens up its eyes and mouth while changing the position of its ears, this means the dog is scared. To master this skill, the AI program "saw" and "read" thousands of example images.

 The researchers are confident in the app because it has been tested many times. Interestingly, they found that cats are harder to understand than dogs. In the future, the app might also be able to analyze a pet's body to make its results more reliable (可靠的).

WuBot (robots that perform Chinese kung fu) at the 2026 Spring Festival Gala amazed the world. The robots shone on stage, showing wonderful tricks. When it comes to farming, robots also make great contributions. Recently, a new robot helps plants breed (育种), producing more food. Chinese scientists have created the world's first robot, GEAIR, that can finish all the steps of plant breeding. This is important for hybrid breeding (杂交育种).

Hybrid breeding helps plants grow stronger and produce more food. Yuan Longping created hybrid rice that has fed millions of Chinese people. According to the report, hybrid breeding usually means taking away the stamens (雄蕊) of the female plant and then putting pollen (花粉) from the male plant onto the female plant. This helps the new plants get the best qualities from both parents. For example, if you mix a male plant that doesn't get sick easily with a female plant that makes a lot of fruit, you can get a new plant that has both of these great qualities.

However, hybrid breeding needs workers to move pollen from one flower to another again and again in a short time. This work takes a lot of time and energy.

GEAIR solves the problem. It uses AI visual recognition and positioning technology (视觉识别和定位技术) to move among crops. After finding flowers, it uses robotic arms to do cross-pollination and finish the whole process.

Building the robot was difficult because leaves get in the way, and flowers are very small. Traditional computer rules cannot easily find them in real time. To fix this, the research team trained a new model with 12,800 pictures of flowers. With this model, GEAIR can pollinate each flower in 15 seconds at a cost much lower than a worker's yearly pay.

White Fang barked, but he did not bite.

Every day, Scott touched the dog. White Fang began to like being touched. He began to like this man who gave him meat, touched him gently, and never beat him. As days passed, White Fang began to love Scott. Even when Scott went away, he stopped eating. He lay quietly, without moving.

Sansa spends a lot of time playing in her garden. It's a huge one that produces over 100 pounds of food each year! But for this seven-year-old girl, gardening isn't just about fruits and vegetables. It's about people. "My favorite thing about growing food is doing it with my family and friends." she says.

Sansa is an inspiration to other kids too. She speaks at libraries and schools and hosts a community garden club for kids. "I also invite kids to visit my garden and help me with it, to see how fun it is," she says. "Growing food takes a lot of work, but together you can do it."
