My Dream Home

Around the world, people live in homes of many shapes and sizes. In the countryside, people live together with their family in a huge house with gardens or backyards. The buildings in cities are usually very close together.

A home can be any kind of building——large or small. Some people even have homes on boats, in tents or in caravans that can be moved around. Caravans are mobile homes. They are towed（拉）by either a car or a huge truck. Some of them are holiday homes. We can see many families staying together in these caravans.

In the past, rich and important people built strong castles（城堡）to keep their families safe. The castles were built on hill tops with high walls and some even had moats. Moats were deep and wide ditches（沟）filled with water. They made it difficult for enemies to attack.

Today, we have different ways of protecting our homes. Some homes are installed with video cameras and an alarm system. These will help to alert（使警觉） home owners if someone tries to break in.

Homes are important to all the people. Everyone needs a home where they feel warm and safe.

Lucy, Keith and Susan are good friends, but they have different ideas about dream homes.

Lucy wants a flat on the top floor of a tall (build) in the city centre. There (be) parks and open spaces around there. She doesn't want it to be by the seaside, it shouldn't be too far from there. At weekends, she can ride her bike along the coast road（沿着海岸公路）。

Keith would like(live) in an old house in a town. The town has all the modern facilities（设 施）, like banks, cinemas and supermarkets. It should be close a mountain. In his free time, he can climb up the mountain to enjoy the view of the town. It's a good place for (he) to relax.

As for Susan, she dreams of (have) a small cottage in a village. It's about ten miles from the town. It is in  quiet area with trees around the village. She would like to keep some animals, such as dogs, cats and (hen). Every day, she talks and plays with them. During the holidays, she can have a BBQ in the yard. It (sound) perfect!

This is how Lucy, Keith and Susan imagine（想象）their dream homes. Maybe one day, they can all have their dream homes!

Lisa' s new home is far from the city. It is a big wooden house near the deer nature park, so Lisa' s family has special neighbours——the deer. She and her child Dudu are the first visitors to Lisa' s house. Rose thinks the house is her place. They eat the flowers and fruits here. Rose loves the flowers and Dudu loves the strawberries.

The deer love the food around Lisa' s house. They enjoy staying with them. They often walk around the house or lie down on the grass. If someone visits Lisa, the deer will never get close. They only know Lisa's family well.

 Lisa and her family have to learn how to get on well with them.

When you hear the word"home", you probably think of the place you are living in right now. Maybe it is an apartment, a single house, or a two-storey house. Maybe it is made of wood or stone. You may think houses are rather normal buildings, but some houses around the world are rather unique!

The Bedouin people of the Middle East and North Africa live in interesting homes. They live in the desert, and move around without living in one place very long. So, they live in tents that are made of animal hair. The tents are easy to put up and take down when they move from place to place. In a similar way, a group of Mongolian people of the Gobi Desert also live in tents rather than buildings. These homes, called"ger" homes, are also made of animal hair, but they are round instead of square like Bedouin tents.

Before people made the first tents, they lived in caves（洞穴）. Some people in the southern part of Spain live in caves today, too! These caves keep the house cool during the summer and warm during the winter.

Another type of home is the"igloo" used by the Inuit people of Canada and Greenland. Igloos are normally made of ice and snow. The igloo protects the people from the wind as well as keeps them warm. In fact, the temperature inside an igloo can even reach 16℃.

The Bagabao people of the Philippines used to live in treehouses. These treehouses were built so that the people could watch for enemies and protect themselves from wild and dangerous animals. In addition, the people could stay cool in their treehouses during the hot summer season. Although the Bagabao people don't live in these treehouses any more, they still use things like them for resting and for meeting people.

One day, three little ants（蚂蚁）—Frank, Albert, and Tommy want to go out to look for their luck. They say goodbye to their mother.

Frank, the oldest, finds a nice place on a hill to build his house. He builds his house out of pieces of straw（稻草）on the ground. His house goes up quickly. In just one day, Frank lives in it and he is happy.

Albert is the second oldest. He also wants to make a house but he hopes his house is a little sturdier than Frank' s. He collects sticks（树枝）, ties them all together with ropes（绳子）, and cuts windows and doors. It takes him three days to build his house, and he is happy.

The youngest brother is Tommy. Tommy has a good idea. He collects strong pieces of wood, cuts each one carefully, and puts the pieces together. He buys tiles （瓷砖）for the roof, and he finishes in two months.

One morning, Billy, the anteater（食蚁兽）, is walking around the neighborhood. He sees the three new houses. Billy smells ants, so he stops to see if he can get a few to snack on. Frank's house is easy to push（推）over because it is made of straw. Unluckily for Billy, Frank runs out of the back door to Albert's house. Albert's house is a little difficult to knock over, but Billy does it. Albert and Frank run away again, and Billy only gets sticks in his nose. At last, he comes to the last house. He sucks（吮吸）as hard as he can, but the three ants do not come out of the front door. Instead, there is hot sauce in his nose!

Bad Tommy! Billy's nose is on fire. He runs away and never wants to eat the brothers again.
