Teaching middle school students bike riding skills as part of physical education classes may improve their mental health, according to a new study. The research examined the effects of a 6-week cycling program in the US schools and found significant mental health benefits for students. 

The study involved over 1,200 students aged 11 to 14 who participated in a program called Ride for Focus, run by the nonprofit organisation Outride. Students attended cycling classes at least three days a week for six weeks, learning safety and manoeuvring (操纵) skills while enjoying the outdoor physical activity. Before and after the program, students completed questionnaires to measure their well-being. 

"We saw mental health benefits across the entire population," said Sean Wilson, the study's senior author. "The main outcome was a more positive outlook on life. " Exercise, including cycling, is known to improve mental health, and middle school is a critical time for such interventions (干预), as students often face social pressures, anxiety, and stress. 

Esther Walker, a program manager at Outride, highlighted the social and physical benefits of cycling. "Riding with peers in a safe setting is important for adolescents (青少年)," she said. "It provides an outlet for stress and promotes physical activity. "

Dr Allan Reiss, a professor at Stanford University, noted that cycling engages many brain functions, such as sensory perception, balance, and navigation. "It's also often a group activity, which adds social benefits," he said. While exercise is not a cure-all, it is a powerful tool for mental health. 

The study also found that students who limited screen time and got adequate sleep saw greater improvements in well-being. Although girls reported increased well-being after the program, their gains were smaller compared to boys. 

Overall, the study suggests that cycling programs in schools can be a valuable addition to physical education, offering both mental and physical health benefits to adolescents. 

What's your dream job? How much do you know about it? A group of students from Tianjin found a problem. Most middle school students plan little for their future jobs. Because there is too little help from their school or family. 

To guide students to make job plans, the students from Tianjin No. 1 Middle School started a project (项目) called "Dian Zhi Cheng Shi". "Most students want to know more about different jobs. " said Wang Xinran, a project member (成员). To meet the students' needs, the team interviewed (采访) 32 people with different jobs and posted their interviews on TV shows. The people shared true stories behind each job to make students learn about the jobs in depth. 

A team member Liu Jinyan said his most unforgettable interview was with a photographer (摄影师). "In the past, I thought being a photographer was cool. But now I know that they have to face lots of problems. They also need to talk with different people. " But the project "Dian Zhi Cheng Shi" doesn't mean to let the students down (失望的) by telling them the problems. "We want to show people's love and hard work, not the bad sides," said a team member Zhao Yajie. "The project's name means to turn a job into a poem. We don't believe working is just about bread and milk. It should be like a poem, full of love and beauty. And we hope our project can help students know that. "

John and Nick are best friends and they hang out together almost every day. However, about a month ago, they got into the biggest fight.

The way to avoid(避免) the fight:

Open communication. There was a better way for John to let Nick know that he needed his own space.

Bill first started to play on computers at the age of 13. At that time, a computer was a very large machine. Once he was interested in a very old computer. He and some of his friends spent as much time as possible on computers. In the end, they worked out a software program. Bill sold it for 4,200 dollars when he was only 17. 

In 1973, Bill went to Harvard University. In 1975, Bill and his partners developed a software program called BASIC. This was not the first program ever created, but its inventors were the first to decide that people who wanted to use it should pay for it. BASIC was a success. Then Bill left Harvard to work for Microsoft, a company he started in 1975 with his boyhood friend Paul Allen. They thought the computer would come into every office and every home soon. So they began developing software for personal computers. They improved the software to make it easier for people to use computers. After many years of hard work, Microsoft became one of the most successful companies. And Bill Gates also became one of the richest businessmen in the world.

Mandela was  in a small village in Transkei in South Africa on 18 July, 1918. When he was 9, his father died of . He had a difficult time when he was young. He was in prison (监狱) for 27 years, because he led the anti-apartheid movement (反种族隔离运动). He was  to leave the prison in 1990. Mandela was free. Then in 1994 he became president of South Africa. 

Even in the worst  in prison, Mandela didn't  himself up. He did exercise every day, and planted many vegetables. He loved his country and devoted all his  to it. People chose him  the greatest South African in 2004. He also did a lot for the peace of the world. Mandela  away in Johannesburg last year, at the age of 95.
