One day, my friend Mareya called. " Nora, I will travel to Hawaii. There' ll be beaches, sandcastles ... " she said. Her words made me have a strange feeling. I was happy for her but envied her a little. " Oh, well, "Ithought, "I will have a hiking trip with Olivia. That will also be very interesting. "
Later that day, I learnt Olivia would visit her uncle's new beach house. So we had to put off our hiking trip. "I'm really sorry. But you understand, right?" she said. " Oh, sure, " I said. I tried to push the corners of my mouth into a smile, but inside, my heart was sinking.
At that time, I saw Mrs. Daisy in her garden. I offered to help her water the flowers in the hope of taking my mind off unpleasant feelings.Watering the flowers made me feel good but I still couldn't stop wishingI could also be on holiday with my friends.
" Be careful!" Mrs. Daisy said. " That is a harmful plant. I' llget it out of here. " Suddenly, I realized what I was watering. Mrs. Daisy was aware of my bad mood, smiled at me and said, " Dear Nora, plants or feelings,we should watch what we' re watering, right? If we nourish the harmful plants or bad feelings, then that's what we have. But if we try to nourish the beautiful flowers or good feelings, then that's what we get. ""I guess that makes sense, " I said, " but I fail to tell my mind to stop being sad. " " Just let yourself feel all of your feelings, " she said, " but after a while, you can try feeding your mind with happier thoughts.
Talk to a friend, go for a run or just enjoy the beauty of a flower. "
I thought Mrs. Daisy's advice was worth trying. So I called Olivia at once. After sharing my feelings with her, I cheered up again and moreover we both agreed to have our hiking trip after she came back.

Do you know dolphins and believe they are among the smartest animals?
Dolphins are mammals(哺乳动物), not fish. The most famous type is the Bottlenose Dolphins. Bottlenose Dolphins are the stars of many shows. Their mouths look like friendly smiles and they can be trained to play tricks by their trainers. Like other dolphins, they breathe air through the blowholes on top of their heads from the water surface. They also give birth to babies and feed their babies milk.
Dolphins can communicate through whistles(哨音) and even call each other, using special names formed by different series of whistles. Noises also help them find food. Dolphins make up to 1,000 clicking noises per second. These clicks travel underwater until they hit an object and return to the dolphin, showing the object's size, shape and location.
Humans have studied dolphins for years to learn how their brains work.A lot of research has been made to study dolphins in the wild. For example, people have seen dolphins off Australia' s coast use shells to catch fish. It shows that dolphins are good at using tools.
It is said that smart animals like to play. If so, dolphins win the gold medal for their playfulness. They can jump out of the water up to 16feet, play amazing tricks and ride the waves.
Scientists give different reasons for play. They find that play helps animals grow mentally and physically. The animals learn their own limits and abilities, practice skills and gain confidence. So, when you see dolphins playing in the wild, you' ll know that they are not just playing for fun, but also to practice their skills and stay healthy.

Many years ago, flying to another place sounded impossible. In fact, science has made it real. Could fantasy stories become true with the help of science?
Sleeping Beauty
Could anyone sleep for 100 years? Of course not. But some animals and plants sleep long. Bears and snakes sleep for months through the winter. They slow down their breath, lower body temperatures and don't eat or drink. Some seeds can dry themselves out and hide in the dark for years. If scientists can move these characteristics to humans,Sleeping Beauty might be born.
Talking to animals
In the real world, talking to animals isn't easy, but scientists are working towards it. Tiny cameras have collected thousands of hours' animal conversations. Then, special programs connect the sounds to possible meanings. These programs may let us talk back to animals in the future.
Super strength
In fairy stories, lucky ones found magic food to get power. But it's a pity that scientists haven't invented any magic food that can make us strong in a second. In fact, we can get super strength with the help of smart machines. Mechanical exoskeletons(机械的外骨骼) are like wearing a robot. They can be used to help people with disabilities walk easily. That's pretty super.
Invisible coat(隐形衣)
Some animals are quite good at changing colours to hide themselves. If you want to have an invisible coat, here is good news for you! Scientists have invented new materials that can change the directions of light around objects. So far, they have managed to hide tiny objects. Hiding larger objects, such as humans, is even harder, but the new materials could cover our coat and make us at least harder to be seen.

Ten years later, Tong 7 the first cross-species cloned fish. In the whole process, challenges and failures didn't prevent him. Thanks to his pioneering research, Chinese scientists developed fish-breeding skills. Now China produces more than half of the world's aquaculture(水产养殖) harvest.

The Blind Artist: Seeing the World Through Determination
What would you do if the very thing that defined you—— the thing you loved the most—— was suddenly taken from you?
A Born Artist with a Bright Future
Liam had been drawing since he could hold a pencil. As a child, he would spend hours drawing everything around him. By the time he reached adulthood, he was a rising star in the art world. His paintings were displayed in galleries(画廊), and collectors eagerly bought his works. He was living his dream.
Then, everything changed.
The Day the World Went Dark
One evening, as Liam was driving home from his studio, there was a crash. When he woke up in the hospital, everything was black. The doctor explained,"I'm sorry, Liam… but you' re blind."
Liam's heart sank. Blind? At first, he refused to accept it."This can't be happening," he whispered."I'm an artist. I need my eyes."
Falling Into Despair(绝望)
The following months were the darkest of Liam's life. He refused to leave his house. His paintings sat untouched in his studio, collecting dust.
Whenever someone encouraged him to try something new, he said,"What's the point? I can't paint. I can't see." His soul was drowning in hopelessness.
One day, his best friend, Ava, visited him. She placed a canvas (画布) in front of him, took his hand and placed a textured (有纹理的) fabric on the canvas."Feel this," she said."Art isn't just about sight. It's about expression. Maybe you can find a new way to create."
Learning to See Without Sight
The idea hit him. Could I still create?
One night, alone in his room, he hesitantly(犹豫地) picked up a brush. He let his fingers explore the textures of different materials—— canvas, clay, wood. He tried to tell the difference between them by touching and draw by feeling. The thickness let him"see" the painting. At first, it was hard. His hands trembled, his lines were messy, and his paintings didn' t make sense. But he kept going. He learned to"see" with his hands. Slowly, something unbelievable happened—— he started creating art again.
Proving the World Wrong
When Liam finally showed his new works to Ava, she gasped(倒吸一口冷气). "This is… amazing!"
Word spread(消息传开), and soon,
The exhibition was called"Beyond Sight: The Art of Feeling".
The exhibition was a success, and Liam became an inspiration worldwide. He proved that creativity isn't about what we see— it's about what we feel.
(1)、List one of the reasons for Liam to create again.(2)、What is the new way for Liam to create?(3)、Continue to write the story.(At least 30 words)(4)、Summarize the whole passage.(Within 30 words)(5)、What lesson have you learned from Liam's story? (No more than 20 words) -

20、 阅读下面的短文,根据短文内容,从下面方框内所给11个词中选择10个意义相符的词,必要时进行词形变化,填入空白处,每空一词。

Scientists have created a soft-bodied robot that's powered by air. The robot doesn't have a computer or a"brain", and yet it can"walk" by . And if it is dropped into water, it swims.
is this possible? The secret is in the science of how air moves.
Have you ever noticed a"tube dancer" which is used to attract customers? If you have seen a tube dancer flopping around, you will understand it .

Tube dancers are tall, thin tubes of cloth through which air is pumped (用泵抽送). High pressure from the pumped air fills the tube, making it stand , and then the air flows through faster, making the pressure drop. When this drop in pressure forms a bend in the tube, it causes the tube to fall party(中途) over. The bend makes the pumped air move more , raising the pressure again. The pumped air pushes the bend up until the dancer is pushed up once more.
Air pressure moving a bend along a tube is exactly what drives the robot. The magic happens there are several tubes hooked(固定) up to the same pump. When the air starts to flow the tubes move in different ways. But very quickly, all of these"legs" start to move in exactly the same way, making the robot walk. The robot's speed is controlled by the air pressure.
The researchers built two robots. The first robot had four legs and the air was pumped to it a hose(软管). Later, the team developed a lighter, two-legged robot that could carry its own battery-powered pump.

There are several remarkable things about the robot. The first is its speed. The robot can cover a distance as long as thirty of its body in a second. That would be like the world's man, Usain Bolt, running the100-meter race in 1.71 seconds. The robot can also go over uneven (坑洼的) ground. If it bumps into a wall, it turns help or control.
Because there is no brain, the new invention is really just a machine. So far, the robot has done all the things on its own. Now, scientists are exploring new ways to control the robot and perhaps will give it more
in the near future.
As time goes by, we believe such technology will play a positive role in achieving a more energy-efficient and eco-friendly future.
