Above the Sky: The First Hotel in Space
Are you dreaming of future travels to space? Your dream will come true soon.
It's reported that people will have an "out-of-the-world" experience by staying at a hotel high above the earth in 2027.
The hotel is called Voyager Space Station (VSS). It is like a sky wheel. There will be rooms, restaurants, bars, gyms, reading rooms and scientific research laboratories. It's eco-friendly by getting power from the sun. It will have rooms for up to 400 people, including scientists, astronauts, and even some people to live there for a long time. You'll pay 5 million dollars for each 3-day stay.
The hotel will serve traditional "space food" — like freeze-dried ice cream. You're also going to have top cooks making really good food. You can go on spacewalks to enjoy the beauty of the earth and space. And the most amazing part? You can enjoy 32 sunrises and sunsets each day because the hotel travels around the earth very quickly.
"The building of the VSS will start in 2026 and welcome its first visitors in 2027. It will be the world's first space hotel. We're trying to make people realize that this golden age of space travel is just around the corner. It's coming fast," scientists say.
In fact, living in space is not just a dream anymore. "Guests can take a shower in special water-saving ways, sleep in floating beds, and even join scientific experiments (实验)", say Mark John, a space expert. For students like us, maybe one day we can also visit the VSS on a school trip! Although the ticket is very expensive now, scientists believe the price will go down in the future. Space travel will become just like taking an airplane trip today. So keep dreaming and studying hard — the stars are waiting for you!
(1)、Is the VSS designed to look like a traditional hotel on the Earth?(2)、How many people can the VSS hold at most?(3)、How long can you stay at VSS if you pay 15 million dollars?(4)、What is the most amazing part for guests on the space hotel?(5)、What do you think of VSS? -

According to a report on April 1, 2026, by MIT Technology Review, a new kind of part-time job is becoming popular around the world. People are now getting paid to record their daily housework at home, providing real action data(数据) to train human-like robots.
Most of these part-time workers come from countries like Nigeria, India and the Philippines. They wear small cameras on their heads and film simple daily tasks, such as washing dishes, cleaning rooms, using household things and making simple meals. At about 15 dollars an hour, the pay is much better than most local part-time jobs.
A tech company called Micro1 has asked thousands of workers in over 50 countries to collect real-life behavior data. All recorded videos first go through an AI check, and then workers carefully mark every human movement by hand.
Different from computer simulations(模拟), which cannot help robots deal with the messy and changing home environment, real human action videos let machines learn natural, useful movements easily. This first-person video data is exactly what makes human-like robots able to live in daily family life.
But this new trend (趋势) also causes wide public worries. Recording private home life brings possible risks, and many people have asked questions about whether the collection and use of personal data are allowed properly. Even with these worries, the report says that real human data has become a necessary part of the future development of home robots.
Common daily housework has become valuable for AI development. As robot technology improves, these part-time workers will still be necessary for the growth of smart home robots all over the world.
(1)、What is the main purpose of recording daily housework in the text?A、To help develop new kinds of head cameras B、To provide useful data for training human-like robots C、To offer more part-time jobs in developing countries(2)、What do workers need to do after the AI check according to the passage?A、Wear small cameras on their heads. B、Mark every human movement by hand. C、Send the videos to robot companies.(3)、Why are real human action videos better than computer simulations?A、They are cheaper and easier to produce. B、They can be used for more kinds of housework. C、They help robots deal with messy real home environments.(4)、What can we learn about the new job from the passage?A、It will soon be stopped because of serious worries. B、It is still important though it brings some possible problems. C、It has made human-like robots widely used in every family. -

"For thousands of years, humans have raced to be the first… Now, in some cases, we're racing to be the last," said The New York Times' Paige McClanahan. This is the spirit at the heart of last-chance tourism, a rising industry.
Last-chance tourism is about seeing the last of something, that's to say, visiting places before they disappear. Rising temperature and water levels mean that we may never get another chance to see certain islands, glaciers (冰川), animals, and so on before they disappear.
This may sound sad, but some people are using last-chance tourism as a way to spread environmental awareness (意识). One example is "the Sea of Ice" in Chamonix, France. The Chamonix ski resort (度假村) opened a glacier museum in 2012. There tourists can learn about glaciers and how climate change influences places like "the Sea of Ice". This effort seems to have an effect. A survey showed that 80 percent of visitors would "try to learn more about the environment and how to protect it".
Although it has these advantages, last-chance tourism may also be speeding up the effects of climate change. As more people rush to endangered natural places, they create a big carbon (碳) footprint, leading to the destruction of these places in the end.
At the end of the day, it's not just about understanding the need to stop climate change; it's even more important to avoid making it more terrible.
(1)、What's last-chance tourism?A、Being the last to see a place. B、Visiting places before they disappear. C、Traveling to certain islands.(2)、How did the Chamonix ski resort help spread awareness about the environment?A、By opening a glacier museum. B、By offering free skiing training. C、By listing endangered animals.(3)、What does the underlined word "destruction" in Paragraph 4 mean?A、Business. B、Harm. C、Discovery.(4)、What's the purpose of the text?A、To show the importance of racing. B、To spread knowledge about glaciers. C、To introduce a rising industry. -

What Can TreesTell us about Climate Change?
Trees can keep a record of the earth's climate (气候) for a long time. In fact, trees can live for for hundreds, even thousands of years!
If you see a stump(树桩), you may find that the top of the stump has many rings. These rings, one for each year, can tell us how old the tree is, and what the weather was like during each year of the tree's life.

In most places, daily weather records have only been kept for the past 100 to 150years. So, scientists can use trees to learn about the climate hundreds to thousands of years ago.

Do you know the five main senses we have? They are touch, taste, sight, smell and hearing. They are controlled by different parts of our brains. So we call the brain our built-in"BeiDou". Brains help our bodies work smoothly. Try this: close your eyes and touch your nose. It's easy, right? That's because our brains can receive messages about where our body parts are. We can also stand on one leg without falling down. If we lose our balance, our brains will give us orders to fix it.
★ Tests show that people see spider pictures faster than flowers. Some researchers also found that people react (作出反应) to loud noises faster than to a friend's voice.Scientists aren't completely sure about the reasons. Some suggest that this skill might come from ancient times. Our ancestors were often faced with predators. So they had to protect themselves from dangerous animals like spiders and tigers, or they would lose their lives. Until today, we still jump at sudden noises or shadows(影子) in dark rooms.
Here is more about brains. Can you imagine seeing colors when you hear music, or tasting candy when you see the sunshine? It's called sense mixing. Scientists think this happens when different senses intermingle (相互交织). Another fact is that temperature sometimes influences our senses. Some people can feel storms coming through knee pain.So we often joke that we're"human weather apps". Also, our brains are able to make adjustment(调整) to some senses. If someone can't see well, his hearing or touch might become stronger.
Though scientists have done much research on the brain, there's still a lot to do. Have you ever wondered why some people are better at sports? What's the secret to improving memory? Then it's time for you to start your discovering journey.

As we often use eyes to touch nature, most of us"lose" the ability to listen to the world.
Peter writes music. He likes natural sounds and use them as part of his music. He often went out to the wild with his microphone and recorded interesting sounds to put in movies or to use in his own songs. Instead of trying to capture just the sound of one animal or bird, he recorded the sound of everything all together— the animals, the trees, the wind and the earth. He called these recordings"soundscapes"— the sound of a certain place.Every soundscape had a lot of information.
Back in his workshop, Peter used a computer to make a sound picture of all the sounds in a place. Each animal, bird and insect had its own place on the picture— its own notes in the music. The more sounds the picture has, the more lively the place is."While a picture may be worth 1,000 words, a soundscape is worth 1,000 pictures," Peter said."Our ears tell us the sound of every leaf and animal and these sounds tie us to the natural world, which gives us life. This connection helps us love everything, especially ourselves."
But not everything is satisfying. When Peter began recording over forty years ago, he could record for ten hours and get one hour of good sound for a movie. Now, because of human activities, it can take over 1,000 hours to get the same thing. Some places he has recorded have slowly fallen silent. His sound pictures show that although nature might look the same to humans, it has lost part of its beautiful sounds.
So next time you are in the forests, try another way to look— shut your eyes, and listen.

D、A picture of music with natural sounds in a place.(4)、What can we learn from paragraph 4?A、Recording sounds needs less material. B、Sound pictures are the same as before. C、Some beautiful sounds in nature are lost. D、Human activities improve recording results.(5)、What does the writer mainly want to tell us?A、Nature is where our future comes from. B、Nature has wonders to be heard. C、Making music enriches our lives. D、Making music needs information. -

To most people, a handmade book is only paper and thread. But for Anastasia, a young girl from Russia, every page has a special story she wants to tell the world.
Anastasia studies in St. Petersburg. Before she came to China, she read lots of Chinese folk stories online. She was very happy when she knew she would come to China for a cultural exchange. She spent much time prepar-ing for the trip to learn about traditional Chinese culture.
In China, Anastasia and her classmates stayed for a month to learn from local artists. They learned the story of"double happiness(双喜)" and the twelve zodiac animals(十二生肖). They also visited old gardens and experi-enced the life of ancient Chinese people. Everything was new and interesting for them.
The story of the twelve zodiac animals attracted Anastasia most. She said Russia also had animal signs, so theChinese zodiac made her feel warm. But the story about the rat was new to her, so she decided to write this story in her book.
With the help of Mr. Xu Jinlin, a Chinese teacher, the students made their own handmade books. One ofAnastasia's classmates, Natalia, drew many beautiful pavilions(亭) and bridges from Chinese gardens. And her friend Natasha made special pages for Chinese Xiehouyu—— two-part sayings with hidden meanings.
From this special journey, Anastasia and her classmates found that people from different cultures could under-stand each other through sharing stories.
Anastasia looks on her book as a great treasure. She will take it back to Russia and share Chinese stories with her family and friends. She hopes more people can learn about traditional Chinese culture from her book.
