Today our English teacher took us to the old people's home to do some volunteer work. In the morning, we went there by bus. Along the way, we saw many beautiful flowers and heard some birds singing. We arrived there at 9 o'clock.

When we arrived there, we gave them some flowers and fresh fruit. Then we cleaned the windows and swept the floor for them. It took us about two hours. At noon, we made lunch for the old people and they looked very happy. After lunch, some of us read newspapers to them and others talked with them. I like singing and I am good at it, so I sang a song for them. I'm happy I can do what I love to do and help others at the same time. In the afternoon, we washed their clothes. Besides, we taught them how to use the mobile phone. They can call their children if they miss them. How convenient (方便的) it is! At about 5 o' clock, we left and went home.

I was tired, but volunteering there made me happy. From this meaningful activity, I think we should care for old people and visit them often. I am looking forward to going there again.

Barbie collection is a very popular hobby for girls. A Barbie doll looks like a teenager.  They can also buy a house, a car and pets for her.

②The town of Zhouzhuang, built in 1086, lies in Jiangsu. People call it "the first water town in China". When you are taking a boat ride through the town, the red lanterns (灯笼) might make you think of China's amazing past.

④Ancient Town of Fenghuang, built in 1704 in Hunan, doesn't look like a bird, but its name means "phoenix" in Chinese. The town is really as beautiful as the mythical (神话的) bird. The buildings on both sides of the Tuojiang River make the area look like a scene from a postcard.

⑤Shandong's Tai'erzhuang, built in 1639, lies in the north, while most water towns are in the south. The town lies on the bank of the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal (大运河). It was a busy trading center during the Ming and Qing dynasties (朝). In the town, there are ancient bridges, a canal and temples, making you think of its past glory (辉煌).

One day, Lynn Smith was doing yoga on the floor, trying to deal with her sore back. When the 56-year-old sat up, she felt as if the room was spinning (旋转) and everything in the room was flying around her quickly. The doctor said she had vertigo (眩晕).

▲Sit on your bed. Turn your head 45°towards the ringing ear.

▲Keeping your head turned, lie back so your head hangs off the bed. Slowly turn your head 90°towards the other side.

▲Move your body in the direction you're looking, and then turn your head so you can look down.

▲Finally, sit up straight, with your head still turned.

TIP: Remember to have someone with you when you experience vertigo, which can keep you safe.

Dad and Madison were buying some things for Madison's birthday party.

The West Lake in Hangzhou attracts people all over the world. It is famous for natural beauty and bridges. Of all the bridges over the West Lake，the Broken Bridge is said to be the famous. Every year，quite a lot of tourists come here to it. However，the name" Broken Bridge" does not mean the bridge is broken. People it because it marks the end of the way that leads to Solitary Hill，a small hill close to the West Lake. And people used this name since the Tang dynasty（618--907）. 

In the Song dynasty（960-1279），the Broken Bridge became a popular sight for visitors. They would come to the West Lake in winter to enjoy the beauty of the bridge. For of years，the beautiful picture of Lingering Snow of the Broken Bridge has been a well-talked-about scene. And even today it is still considered as a example of harmonious（和谐的）beauty between architecture （建筑设计）and nature. Poems and stories of old days helped to make a between the bridge and love. For example，the story of the White Snake and Xu Xian meeting on the Broken Bridge has made it an important symbol of love in Chinese . 

Zhao Xiang is a seventh grader who loves music. He has a good voice and is in a singing club. Recently，he had a problem. His school would hold a singing competition. His class teacher，Mr. Yao，talked to the class and they decided to sing a chorus masterpicce*at the competition. 

For the performance，Mr. Yao even invited his wife，a local musician，to guide the practice. Zhao Xiang thought it was a good chance for him to show his talent. 

At the first practice，things did not go as what Zhao Xiang had expected - he was too good to join the others. The musician was not satisfied and Zhao Xiang felt bad. Mr. Yao saw everything and he came up to Zhao Xiang and comforted him， "Please remember，Zhao Xiang，singing a chorus is NOT one person's job. Everyone has to work together to achieve a good result. " ZhaoXiang realized that his voice would not help if he failed to work well with others. 

Zhao Xiang changed his way of singing - he did not sing so loud as he used to，and his voice became more mixed with the others'. He even helped the musician to train those who had trouble in singing by showing them how to breathe（换气），how to control voice and sing gracefully. The practice was hard，but everyone was happy with him - the class teacher，the musician，his classmates，and even his parents – about his development!

At last，the Big Day came. The whole class was on the stage. They tried their best and they made it! When the headmaster read out first prize，everyone jumped up and shouted with joy. They threw Zhao Xiang up into the air. Zhao Xiang felt great because he knew he was not just singing for himself but for the class as a team. He learned that teamwork is needed everywhere and that teamwork is about trust and helping one another. He was so proud because he had done something important for his class!

*A chorus masterpiece is a song that is well-known and is sung together by a group of people. 

Most people agree that trees look nice. But not too many people know trees can also help us save money. Environmental scientists did some research and they learned that just one tree can save a city about 2，800 yuan over the tree's lifetime. 

One way trees save money is by helping us save energy. Big trees stop the summer sun from shining directly to the buildings. Big trees block （遮挡） the winter wind. In this way，they help people to save the energy to make their homes and offices cool or warm. Saving energy means saving money!

There are other ways for trees to help a city save money. For example，when it rains，a city's sewers（下水道） fill up with water. Cities have to spend lots of money cleaning that water. But trees' leaves and roots take in rainwater before it gets to the dirty sewers. With the help of trees，there is less water to clean and money is saved.

Right after breakfast，Nana and her father put on their warm clothes and went into the yard. There were few cars on the road because of the snow. Many people chose to work at home but Nana's mother1 - she had to work the night before at the local hospital.
