Silk is a thin yet strong material made by silkworms for their cocoons(蚕茧). It is made into soft, smooth cloth. Silk (invent) in ancient China and played an important role in Chinese culture and its economy for thousands of years. 

The idea for silk first came to Leizu, the wife of the Yellow Emperor, while she was having tea in the garden. A cocoon (fall) into her tear and came apart. Leizu then discovered  to put the silk together to make a line. She also invented the silk loom(丝织机) that joined the lines into a soft cloth. Soon her silk-making skills were then passed onto the rest of China. 

Silk cloth was extremely (value) in ancient China. At first, only members of the royal family were allowed to wear silk. (wear) silk was an important status symbol. Ordinary people were not allowed to wear silk. 

Silk soon spread to kings and rich people in other countries  would pay high prices for it. The Chinese managed to keep the process of making silk  secret for over 1, 000 years. However, if finally spread to other countries when two (travel) took some silkworm eggs out of China. They hid the eggs (secret) inside their bamboo walking sticks. 

Silk was such an important product from China that it lent its name to the trade route  Europe to China. Along the Silk Road, goods like spices and metals were traded. People also shared knowledge about science, art. The Silk Road had a big effect on the world that we can still see today. 

A. It is important to have good habits of having meals, especially for children. A bad eating habit may cause serious health problems. For example, eating in front of the TV or computer often leads to mindless overeating. 

B. It's common for people to get something to drink for dinner. But drinking too much alcohol is definitely harmful to human body. Drink properly, and you' ll live a healthy life. 

C. In general, kids and teens that eat breakfast have more energy and do better in school. Without breakfast, people can get tired. So, make time for your breakfast.

In the US, students have different habits before exams. Some students use a special pen that they save for the most important moment. The pen must be a gift from someone who loves them.  Others do simple thigs, like doing exercises that they think may bring them luck. 

By doing these things, students can take as short break from all the pressure and worries.  After all, what leads to good grades is not luck, but years of practice and training.

You can try this project at home. You just need some tape, a pin, paper, three cans and two big thick books. Now, we're going to build the solar tower. First, make a pinwheel with a piece of square paper. In the second stage, cut off the tops and bottoms of the cans, place the cans on top of each other and tape them together. Next, use a pin to connect the pinwheel with the tower. Finally, put the can tower on top of the books, which are 5cm apart from each other. So there's a gap at the bottom, allowing the air to enter the tower. 

Now, all we have to do is set the whole thing near a window, where there's direct sunlight. When the sun shines on the tower, it gets hot and warms the air in it. The warmer air moves upward through the tower and makes the pinwheel turn around as it passes by. Then cooler air comes in through the gap from the bottom of the tower, gets heated up, and rises, so the cycle goes on. This is how it works. How amazing!

So next time you feel the warm sun on your face, remember that it's more than just a nice feeling—sunlight is a powerful and useful source of energy. 

It was a warm afternoon. A boy was reading a book in a busy square. As he read on, an old man sat down at his side and started talking to him. 

"I've read the book. It's about the world's greatest lie, " said the old man, looking at the book. 

"What's that?" the boy asked in surprise. 

"We won't get what we dream of. "

"Really? Why are you saying that? Who are you?" asked the boy.

How can a city fight food waste and help people at the same time? Shenzhen has given a smart answer with its 24-hour"food banks"in Futian District. These are not banks for money, but special cabinets that provide free food around the clock. 

Started in May 2022, the project now has over 20 smart cabinets. The food, like bread, fruits, and vegetables, is mainly donated by nearly 90 partner businesses. These are safe, surplus(剩余的) items that would otherwise be thrown away. 

The project follows the rule of"helping those most in need". People like sanitation workers(环卫工人) can book food on the"i Shenzhen"App before 8 p. m. After 8 p. m. , any leftover food is open to everyone. This smart rule makes sure nothing goes to waste. 

Safety is the main task. The cabinets keep a same low temperature, and all food is traceable, meaning its source can be found. 

The results are amazing. It has offered help over 480, 000 times and saved about 195 tons of food from rubbish dump. This also means a big reduction in carbon emissions, making the city greener. More than just giving out food, it warms hearts and builds a stronger community. 

Shenzhen's food banks show a caring and environmentally friendly way of city life. It proves that with kindness and clever ideas, we can solve social problems and protect our planet together.
