Two years ago, Porter was ten. He knew his father's friend had cancer. Porter and his father went to see him. Porter made a carrot cake and brought it to him because it was the friend's favorite treat. Porter's grandmother also had cancer. Porter felt he should make a difference. 

One night, Porter talked with his dad and came up with a plan to help people with cancer. They called it "Nothing But Carrot Cake". They would sell carrot cakes, and the money would go to cancer research. 

Porter's family gave him $1, 000 to get started. That was used to buy some things needed to make the cakes. And then, Porter's business started. He sold more than 200 cakes and raised over $10, 000. That was about $9, 900 more than he had ever thought. "My goal was to raise$100. I never thought I'd ever raise that much," Porter said. 

Porter's dad also encouraged him to join in a competition to draw iced tea. It asked kids to draw a picture of their own favorite flavors. Porter created a flavor and called it "Porter's Peach". After he handed in his drawing, a staff person of the activity learned more about him. His story made the leader of the company join the fight against cancer. 

Porter will continue helping people in need. "I hope doctors can find better treatments for cancer."

In the world full of games, apps and funny videos, people spend less and less time on things. Research has shown that on average, people spend less than one minute on one work of art. The Internet has millions of websites, so you might expect people to slow down when they're in museums full of great works of art. But you are wrong.

In recent years, museums have been working to change the situation. Over 170 museums around the world celebrate Slow Art Day. They ask their visitors to spend at least 5 to 10minutes looking at just one work of art.

Slow Art supporters believe that when visitors spend more time looking at a work of art, they enjoy it more. By spending time, they are able to notice more things about the work of art. Studying a work of art for more time can also help people get a better understanding of the artist's ideas and what the artist went through to create the work. Most museums taking part in Slow Art Day choose just a few works for their visitors. In their opinion, when people visit a museum with lots of works of art, they feel like they must see everything in the museum. As one expert said, "You can't really see a painting as you're walking by it."

Life sometimes can be so difficult for us. You may feel the whole world is against you. However, a good change in mind or actions may turn your life around.

Many times, when you are feeling down, thoughts can be running around your head. You may miss out on some of your brighter ideas. To stop this, you should write down your goals. This will make them clearer in your mind and give you something to stick to. Writing it down will help you think about how you can achieve it. It will make you feel much better after you mark it in your list.

Short-term pleasure such as junk food or computer games is not true happiness. You'd better cut out a lot of the negative things in your life. You can start a new hobby like exercising. It can improve your body as well as feelings. Doing things like that will help you get into a better man. You can even see your progress in the mirror.

If you still can't change by yourself, there is no shame in finding help from someone. By reaching out, you are already making a great step. It doesn't even have to be a professional. Sometimes just go to your friends and family and tell them what your trouble is. It helps a lot.

It is not easy to make a change and maybe not everyone needs to do it. What works for one person may not work for somebody else. You need to find what helps you out and then stick to it. If you can find out the goals and develop some good habits, your life will slowly but surely turn around.

Most children are taught the virtue of honesty from stories. The well-known story of Pinocchio teaches the importance of telling the truth. Every time Pinocchio lies, his nose grows longer and longer. Another story is about the boy who "cried wolf". In the end, he loses all his sheep and the trust of his fellow villagers because he tells lies many times. These kinds of stories show children that "honesty is the best policy". Why do so many people still lie? The fact is that people lie for many reasons.

One reason people lie is to avoid a mistake. While it is true that everyone does something wrong from time to time, some people do not have the courage to admit their mistakes because they are afraid they will be punished. For example, students might lie to their teachers about unfinished homework. They might say that they left the homework at home. In fact, they did not do the homework at all. These students do not want to get in trouble, so they make up a pretense— a lie— to save face.

Another reason for lying has to do with self-protection. Parents, especially those with young children, may teach their children to use this kind of "protective" lie in certain situation. What should children do if a stranger calls while the parents are out? Many parents teach their children to explain that their mother and father are too busy to come to the phone at that time. In this situation, protective lying can mean greater safety.

People lie for many reasons, both good and bad. Lying to keep the peace or to stay safe can have good results. However, lying to stay out of trouble can lead to more trouble in the end.
