English idioms are sometimes hard to understand, but they' re fun to learn.

The elephant in the room
There's an elephant in the room, but nobody seems to be talking about it.It feels strange, doesn't it? Its first recorded use was in a short story written byIvan Krylo v in 1814. However, some competitors steal the goat to upset the horse and make the horse lose the race!

Have one's ducks in a row
One story about the origin of this expression is that it comes from the world of nature. Mother ducks often get their young to line up in a straight line before traveling over land or water. 7、 请阅读下面一篇短文,根据所提供的信息回答后面的问题。

There are many kinds of amazing animals in the world.
Have you ever watched one of them—Canada geese (雁 )?
They can teach us a lesson about teamwork.
In autumn, Canada geese have to fly to the warm south to get away from Canada's cold winter. When they leave the ground and rise into the air, they fly in no order. Then they quickly form a V shape, with one bird leading the group.
The V shape allows Canada geese to save energy. The head bird moves its wings up and down. The resulting force of the air helps lift the next bird. Each birdwill do so until they get to the southern part. The bird at the head of the group has the hardest job. When it gets tired, another bird moves to the front and takes its place. By sharing this job, the group can travel great distances.
Canada geese flying in a V shape can fly seventy percent farther without having a rest than the birds flying alone. During the long flying journey, Canada geese communicate with one another. They honk (鸣叫) to encourage the birds up front to keep up the speed. They also cheer one another up while working toward the same destination (目的地).
What have we learned from the lovely Canada geese's experience and skills? Work together! Whether in our personal lives or our jobs, we need the spirit of teamwork!

Do you think you should only try to be happy? Think again! Unhappy feelings like sadness or anger can actually be helpful. Scientists say these emotions are good for you.
When you feel sad, maybe because of a low score, you might not want to do anything. But this rest helps you recover (恢复). By pushing you to clear your mind, sadness allows for better memory and more careful thought. For example, after a hard and sad day, having a rest helps you recover your energy and get ready for future challenges.
If you feel angry, like when your phone breaks, you might want to make it work again at once. Anger drives you to act fast and solve problems quickly.
Before a big test, you might feel nervous. This feeling makes you notice possible risks and study harder. It also helps you see things more clearly, so you don't miss important details.
Boredom (无聊) happens when there is nothing exciting. But it's important. It can push you to try something new, like a hobby or a different way of learning.
So next time you feel sad, angry, nervous, or bored, remember that your feelings are trying to help you! They are not bad—they are your helpers. Pay attention to them, and you will do better in life.
