Tomatoes taste great and are good for your health. All tomatoes are first green. When they turn red (sometimes yellow or still green), they' re ready to pick and eat. 

Tomatoes first grew in the Americas over 1, 000 years ago. Later, explorers took them to Europe. People in Europe thought tomatoes were dangerous, so they did not eat them for many years.

Healthy Snacking Tips

Probably you grew up with a no-snacking mom. That is a mom who tells her kids that snacks are bad. They will make you fat. They will hurt your teeth. 

Well, mom may be right about many things, but she isn't right about all snacks.  And here are some rules of snacking to help you. 

·Make your own snacks.

Try to avoid store-bought snacks. Most ready-made snacks have too much sugar and salt in them. 

·Choose snacks that take longer to digest（消化）.

Foods like bread and cookies are digested quickly. Try eating them with cheese or yogurt. This slows down digestion and makes you feel full longer. 

·

Sometimes your body cannot tell the difference between tiredness and hunger. Before eating another snack, drink a bottle of water. You might not be hungry at all—your body might just need some water. 

·Limit（限制）your snack breaks.

Having one or two snack breaks during the day can help you eat less at lunch and dinner. Eating less at main meals is a good way to control weight and stay healthy. 

With these tips, you can enjoy snacks without worrying too much about health. Sorry about that, Mom—some snacks can actually be good for you!

Last Friday, I took a crowded subway to work, feeling a little low. As the doors closed, a cheerful voice came from the train speaker(广播), "Good morning. Welcome to this train! Wish you a happy journey!"It was such a lovely voice that I looked up and caught the eye of another passenger. 

I smiled, and the woman smiled back. Then we did something that people hardly do on a crowded subway—we started talking. 

"Oh, I love this voice!"said my eye-contact(眼神交流) friend. 

"Cheerful and warm!"I replied. 

When I got off the train, I felt lighter. And the good feeling stayed with me all day. 

What happened? Could the cheerful voice and the short talk with a stranger have changed my feelings?"Yes, "say researchers. In their research, Gillian Sandstrom and Elizabeth Dunn suggest that talking to people you don't know well— people with"weak ties(联系)—can make you happier. 

To test this idea, they asked students to count how many times they talked with classmates in person. The students who had more face-to-face conversations— even small ones with people they never knew— said they felt happier. 

Next, Sandstrom and Dunn asked students to write down all their social talks for three days. They used two notebooks: one for"strong-tie"talks and one for"weak-tie"talks. The results showed that people who had more"weak-tie"talks felt happier than others. 

So, just say hello to the policeman on the corner, the kid with the cute dog, or the new neighbor. It might make you feel better than you expect. 

Steve Mann's lab at the University of Toronto shows what he loves most. There are old computers and other electronics(电器)in every corner. Boxes of books and tools reach almost to the top of the walls. 

Mann chooses to keep his lab this way. "Since childhood, I've been interested in how things work, "he says. "I've always filled my space with all kinds of cool, techy things. "

I'm Mike. I'm from the USA, but now I study in China. During my first week in China, I see some interesting things in my school. Here,  This is very common(普遍) here. I have all my lessons, do homework and eat lunch with my classmates. We are like a big family. 

 Students in my country change classrooms for each subject. They walk to different rooms and meet different classmates every lesson. They have to take the schoolbags to the next classroom. 

 Because in China, all students in one class have the same subjects and timetable. So, it is easy for them to stay together in one room and teachers come to them. But in the US, students can sometimes choose different lessons and teachers. 

I like both ways. It is easy to make close friends in Chinese classrooms. But it is also fun to meet many different people in American classrooms.
