Doing"Clean" Exercise

When you go for a run outside, chances are that you' ll find litter all around you. Do you just go past it, or do you stop and pick it up? If you choose the second, you're part of the latest popular sport in the West: plogging. 

The word"plogging" is the Swedish phrase"plocka upp"(pick up) and the English word "Jogging"(running slowly) put together. 

What a plogger needs is a rubbish bag and a pair of gloves to protect his hands. While collecting rubbish, ploggers learn to classify(分类) and deal with it correctly, too. 

Plogging seems simple but it does a lot of good to both the environment and your health. It can not only make the world greener, but also get your full body exercise. For example, a30-minute plogging burns around 288 calories(卡路里), compared to 235 calories burned from just jogging. 

So next time you go out jogging, why not carry a rubbish bag and collect some litter along the way? Your body and the environment will thank you. 

I got on the bus, dirty, tired and hot after a day's hard working. I1 that place every day, looking like a coal mine(煤矿) worker. 2 , I still felt a bit proud of myself for holding this tiring job for 3 months. Taking my seat on the bus, I decided my hard life would not lower my spirits today.

Located on the Persian Gulf coast of the United Arab Emirates in West Asia, Dubai is an international city. It is said to be the land of luxury and an open society. Dubai is a city of big business, expensive hotels, skyscrapers, and shopping malls. In the early 20th century, Dubai was a successful trading port. People from the world stopped in Dubai to do business. But it was still a small city, and most people lived as fishermen and businessmen. 

Then in 1966, oil was discovered. This brought a lot of money into the area, and soon Dubai began to change. 

Today Dubai is one of the world's most important business centers. In fact, each year the city gets its money mainly from business, not oil. Recently Dubai has attracted more and more visitors from abroad. They come to relax on its beaches, and every year, millions of people come here to shop!

Dubai is also one of the world's fastest growing cities. Many tall buildings are built in months. The city also has many man-made islands. One of these, the Palm Jumeirah, is like a palm tree and is very beautiful. 

The city is still an amazing mix of people from different countries. The people from150 countries live and work in Dubai, and foreigners now outnumber Dubai natives by eight to one!

Many people welcome the city's growth. But an increasing number of Dubai natives worry about the speed of change. As a Dubai native says, "We must always remember where we came from. Our kids must know we worked very, very hard to get where we are now, and there's a lot more work to do. "

Imagine a perfect day: The weather is good and everything seems fine. Then, suddenly, your cell phone loses its signal, the television has no programs, and you can't get online with your computer. 

What has happened? These are just the types of problems a solar storm might cause. It may not sound as serious as other natural disasters, such as earthquakes. But today, a solar storm often puts our society in danger. 

A solar storm is caused by solar flares: large explosions near the sun. It can give off lots of energy. The strong energy can stop the satellite systems that operate our computers, telecom networks and so on. These storms can even cause the power to go out for weeks or months. 

In the past few months, scientists have recorded some of the strongest sun flares in years. The most recent one happened around Valentine's Day. It caused radio and satellite signals to go down in some northern cities in China. 

"Solar flare activity is going to be much worse than what we've seen in the past. We're not talking about a few cities losing power. It could be half the country, maybe more, " Solar Storm Warning.com, a US website about space weather, warned. 

Experts say that little can be done to predict such a storm. Governments around the world are trying to work together before the next storm, although they are not sure when that may happen.

The cardiac arrest happens when the heart suddenly and unexpectedly stops pumping blood. 90% of the people who have a cardiac arrest outside of a hospital die often within minutes. That is because they do not receive treatment quickly enough to survive. The cardiac arrest is a common cause of death. It causes about 300, 000 to 450, 000deaths in the United States each year. 

If a cardiac arrest happens, rapid treatment with a medical device called Automated External Defibrillator (AED) can be lifesaving. Many AEDs can be easily seen in public places, including offices, schools, shopping malls, grocery stores, and airports. An AED system includes an AED and its necessary accessories, such as a battery and pad electrodes(片状电极). The AED gives verbal instructions to users, which means it gives voice instructions to tell users how to use it. 

This is how an AED works. First, the user turns on the AED and follows the recorded voice instructions. Second, the user puts two electrodes on the chest of the person in a cardiac arrest. ④Third, the electrodes send information about the person's heart rhythm to the AED, and then it decides whether an electric shock is needed. Fourth, if a shock is needed, the AED tells the user when to press a button to give a shock. In some AEDs, the user doesn't need to press any button. The AEDs will give a shock themselves.
