On a cold and windy winter afternoon, an old man walked into a quiet little village. The villagers here were simple and hard-working. But they were very shy and never shared their food or things. The whole village felt cold and lonely. 

To warm up the village, the old man came up with a good idea. He put a big pot on the open fire and put a clean stone (石头) into the boiling water. Soon, all villagers came and wanted to know what he was doing. 

The old man smiled and told everyone he was cooking magic stone soup. "This stone can make tasty soup," he said, "but it will be much better with some beans. " So a kind woman was happy to bring the beans. "I have some dried beans at home!" she said. Then the old man said a little meat could make the soup more delicious. A young boy quickly ran home for the meat. "My family has some pork!" he shouted. 

Little by little, more villagers joined in. A farmer brought a potato and sweet carrots, and a little girl took out some salt. Everyone gave just a little of their own food. The old man watched, waited and smiled happily. 

Finally, the soup was done and it tasted wonderful. All villagers sat together, talked and enjoyed the warm soup. 

The old man told the truth about why the soup was delicious. "The stone has no magic. The real magic is sharing. It brings us warmth and friendship. "

Do you love eating potatoes, one of the most popular vegetables in the world? And do you know how potatoes come into being (形成)?Scientists find something amazing: the tomato is the "mother" of the potato!

About 9 million years ago, an old kind of tomato plant and another plant called Etuberosum grew together and created a new plant. This new plant could grow a special part under the ground: the tuber. That is the potato we eat today!

Scientists have studied the genes (基因) of potatoes for years. They have found that potatoes get genes from both the tomato and Etuberosum. The tomato is like the mother, and Etuberosum is like the father. 

Why can potatoes grow tubers but tomatoes and Etuberosum cannot? Scientists say the genes from the two plants join in a new way. One gene from the tomato tells the potato plant when to start growing tubers. The other gene from Etuberosum helps the underground parts grow big and full of food. The two genes are very important. If there is only one of them, the potato cannot grow tubers. 

Thanks to their special genes, potatoes can live in dry or cold weather. They can keep water and food in their tubers. That is why they are now grown all over the world. Next time you eat a potato, remember—its mother is a tomato!

Millie Childs is an 11-year-old girl with dyslexia (阅读障碍) from the UK. Like many kids of her age, she loves reading fun stories, but reading is always hard for her. So she wanted to make a special pair of glasses for herself. 

When she was 8, she found coloured glasses could make reading much easier. But she didn't like carrying different pairs of glasses around every day. So she had an idea: why not make glasses with lenses (镜片) that can change colors?

She named her glasses "Rainbow Glasses". The lenses can change between red, green and blue. Users can choose the colour that works best for them. Later, Millie joined the "If You Were an Engineer" show. She worked with real engineers to turn her idea into a real thing. 

When talking about her glasses, Millie said, "Seeing it come true is incredible! I can hardly believe it! I hope more people with dyslexia can use my glasses. Helping them makes me so excited. "

Millie's glasses won a big prize in the Primary Engineer show. And do you know? About one in ten people in the UK has dyslexia. Maybe her small but clever glasses will help thousands of people read more easily soon!

Sugar painting has a long history in China. It is both a dessert and  important traditional art. Now, young people  (become) more and more interested in it.

In the Ming Dynasty, people used sugar paintings as offerings (祭品) to gods. Sugar was made into tigers, lions, dragons and so on. In the Qing Dynasty, sugar painting  (get) more popular. A lot of  (worker) made a living by making and selling sugar paintings. Some old artists could finish a whole large painting all by  (them).

Heavy rain didn't stop people from visiting a big drone (无人机) show in Shenzhen. The show opened at the Futian Exhibition Center on May 21st. It quickly became very popular in the city. People of all ages came to see the amazing flying machines.

The show lasted for a few days and closed on Saturday. It was very large and used nine big halls. More than 1,200 business teams from 17 different countries were there. Together, they brought over 10,000 kinds of drones and other high-tech products. Visitors could see many different things, like smart machines, new energy products, and new safety gear (装备) for drones. Some drones were very small, while others were big enough to carry heavy boxes.

On the first day, the halls were full of buyers and visitors from all over the world. In fact, there were more foreign guests than last year. To help these foreign friends, many sellers prepared special guidebooks in English to assist them. This made it much easier for them to talk, share ideas, and learn about the newest drone technology.

One businessman from Dubai was very excited. He owns a small drone shop in his country. He came to the show to learn new things and make his business bigger. "This is my first time here," he said with a smile. "But my team comes to China almost every two months. Chinese drones are very good. Many companies in Dubai love to do business with Chinese partners."

More and more adults are loving Pop Mart toys. Claire Carrillo, a 24-year-old from the Philippines, is one of them. She really loves Pop Mart's cute CryBaby toy. She is not alone. Today, Pop Mart is very popular. It has over 530 stores around the world. Its lovely toy designs successfully catch the eyes of fans from different countries and age groups.

Why do so many young people love these toys? One reason is the "big kid" trend (趋势). Many young adults today like to do things that children enjoy, such as collecting toys. Pop Mart makes toys that connect with people's true feelings. For example, Carrillo loves the CryBaby toy because she sometimes feels like a "crybaby" herself. These little dolls make people feel understood.

Another big reason is the "blind box". A blind box is a surprise box. When you buy one, you do not know which toy is inside until you open it. This surprise makes people very excited. People always want to buy more boxes to collect all the different toys.

Opening blind boxes is not only fun, but it also brings people together. Amanda Lee, a 26-year-old from Singapore, likes to open Pop Mart blind boxes with her coworkers (同事). "It is a fun little thing we do together during our lunch breaks to relax," Lee said. Sharing these small hobbies helps young people make friends and creates warm, happy memories.

Li Weiyi is a painter from Chengdu. In 2010, she traveled to the Ruoergai Grassland (草原). There, she found a weak baby wolf. She felt sorry for him, so she took the little wolf back to her city home. She named him Green and took good care of him.

However, as Green grew up, things changed. His wild nature began to show. He cried loudly at night and needed a large space to run. Li knew clearly that the city was not a good home for a wolf. To help him return to the wild, Li made a hard choice. She left her comfortable city life and moved to the grassland with Green.

For seven months, Li lived there and acted as Green's teacher. She taught him how to catch small animals for food and how to live safely outside. Finally, a wild wolf family accepted Green. He became wild and free again. He was the first human-raised wolf to successfully go back to nature.

Green's story has touched many people's hearts. "I love him," Li said, "so I must let him go. For a wolf, freedom is more important than a safe life in a small room." From this experience, Li learned a great lesson: true love is not about keeping one under control, but giving freedom.

Recently, Green's story has caught public attention once again, but it does not simply end there. We still have many wolves like Green to protect, as humans share the same planet with all living things.

At the beginning of the school year, each student got a different job. Rita, a quiet and hardworking girl, hoped for an exciting task, such as taking care of the class plants. But she only 1 a small box with sand and a tiny ant.

This year, my school held its English Festival, and I took part in two events: the Spelling Bee and the Project-Based Learning (PBL) Competition. It was a  (real) meaningful experience.

The Spelling Bee had both individual and team rounds. Each class sent a team, and I  (choose) as one of the members. To do well in it, I spent weeks  (prepare). During the contest, I found that learning words could be much more fun. It also helped me understand the  (important) of learning English words.

On May 25, 2026, China's Shenzhou 23 spacecraft reached the Tiangong space station. Among the three astronauts was Li Jiaying, the first person from Hong Kong, China to travel into space.

Li's road to space was not easy. As a child, she did not do well in school. But once she found her interest, she worked harder and made progress. Years later, she entered the University of Hong Kong to study computer science. In 2003, when she watched Yang Liwei fly into space on TV, tears filled her eyes, and the seed of a space dream was planted in her heart. But for her then, it was still a dream far away. After university, she did technical work in the Hong Kong police. The job trained her to be careful and calm when facing problems. It also helped her develop a strong learning ability.

In 2022, China opened its fourth round of astronaut selection to Hong Kong for the first time. Li felt that her chance had finally come. To make her dream come true, she had to complete many strict tests and over 200 training tasks. It was never easy, but she didn't give up. Finally, she was selected for Shenzhou 23 to carry out scientific experiments in space.

From Yang Liwei to Li Jiaying, China's space program has moved forward through the hard work of one generation after another, inspiring more young people to have a space dream and take part in its development.
