Lu Xun is one of the greatest Chinese writers of the 20th century.His real name is Zhou Shuren.Born in  1881 to  rich family,Lu Xun had a happy childhood.In  1893, however,the family suffered a lot.These early experiences  (great)influenced  his writing.

By the time Lu Xun arrived  Nanjing to study at university in 1899,he had already believed that Chinese society had to change and become modern.In 1902,he went to Japan.There,he began writing  (article)for several Chinese student magazines. He returned to China in 1909

Since his death in 1936,Lu Xun's importance and influence have grown.Today,many of his writings   (include)in school textbooks and his works are read by millions of people around the world.

Dorothy lived in a small house in Kansas,with Uncle Henry,Aunt Em,and a little black dog called Toto.There were no trees and no hills in Kansas,and it was often very windy. a cyclone ( 龙卷风),and it could blow buildings away.There were cellars ( 地下室) under all the houses.And when a cyclone came,people went down into their cellars.

One day Uncle Henry came out and looked up at the sky.

"There's a cyclone coming,"he called to Aunt Em and Dorothy."We must go down into the cellar!"They ran to the door of the cellar. Dorothy ran after him to get him.

"Quick!"shouted Aunt Em from the cellar."Leave the dog and come down into the cellar!"

Dorothy picked up Toto and ran to the cellar door.But before she got there,the cyclone hit the house.

The house moved,and then it went slowly up,up,up into the sky.Aunt Em and Uncle Henry were down in the cellar under the ground,but the house,Dorothy and Toto went up to the top of the cyclone.

 At first Dorothy was afraid."But we can't do anything about it,"she said to Toto."So let's wait and see."And after two or three hours,she and Toto went to sleep.

During all this time,I never stopped thinking about leaving.When I travelled across to the other side of the island,I could see other islands.And I said to myself,"Perhaps I can get there with a boat.Perhaps I can get back to England one day."

So I decided to make myself a boat.I cut down a big tree,and then began to make a long hole in it.It was a hard work,but about six months later,I had a very fine canoe( 独木舟).Next, I had to get it down to the sea.How silly I was!Why didn't I think carefully before I began to work?Of course,the canoe was too heavy.I couldn't move it!I pulled and pushed and tried everything,but it didn't move.I was very unhappy for a long time after that.

In my sixth year on the island,I did make myself a smaller canoe,but I did not try to leave in it.The boat was too small for a long journey,and I did not want to die at sea.The island was my home now,and I was just happy to be alive.A year or two later,I made myself a second canoe on the other side of the island.I also built myself a second house there,and so I had two homes.

I kept food and tools at both of my houses,and also wild goats.There were many goats on the island,and I made fields with high fences to keep them in.They learnt to take food from me, and soon I had goats'milk to drink every day.I also worked hard in my corn fields.And so,many years went by.

When talking about Chinese literature,Journey to the West is often at the top of people's lists.It is a classic novel written in the 16th century by Wu Cheng'en.It is one of the most well- known Chinese literary works in the West.

Journey to the West'spopularity has made it an inspiration( 灵感)for many Western works —and  not  just   in  literature.Fred  Ho,an  American  musician,wrote  an  opera  called  Journey Beyond the West:The New Adventures of Monkey.The opera includes kung fu performances and other Chinese elements from Journey to the West.

Characters from Journey to the West havealso appeared in many Western video games, including Overwatch,Warframe and League of Legends.

But why has Journey to the West lasted not just for years,but for centuries?

James Trapp,a famous British writer,says that Sun Wukong,known to most Western readers as the Monkey King,is the reason for the novel's lasting popularity."In many ways,the Monkey King is the archetype of the superhero,"Trapp wrote.In these ways,the Monkey King is similar to Western heroes such as Huckleberry Finn.However,he has been around for much longer than many of these heroes.

The story itself is similar to that of the Western classic Odyssey,a Greek poem about a hero's journey of self-discovery and victory.Its similarity to famous Western stories has made Journey to the Westpopular among Western readers for centuries.

I was very happy to be with my family again.But I am a traveller by nature and after only two months I found another job as a ship's doctor.

I 1 for  Surat in India,on  a  ship called the Adventure. The first part of our2 went well.But when we  sailed through the Indian Ocean,there were  some 3 storms.The   winds were so strong that they sent our ship4 off course ( 偏离航线).Finally,when the storms

5 ,we  saw  an  island.We  had  no  more  drinking water,so I went to  find  some fresh water. When I returned,there were no men and no boat!Then I saw the giants.

I ran as fast as possible in the opposite direction.I then climbed a big hill and 6 behind a tree.I looked around and saw some other7 cutting grass in the fields.On my last journey I was a giant of tiny people and now I am a tiny person of giants!It was not a nice feeling."Why did I leave the 8 of my home and family to travel again?"I asked myself.

Suddenly,a giant bent down and picked me up and I felt like one of the tiny Lilliputians.

"Please don't 9 me,"I called to the giant.

He answered in a 10 language  and  I  didn't  understand.Then  he  lifted me to his  face and looked at me with great interest.I thought he wanted to eat me but he put me in his hand and  carried me home.
