Do you know that weather can affect us in many ways? In fact, weather is more important than we think. New studies show that it affects our health, learning, and how we feel.

Very hot weather can be dangerous.  So, in hot months, more people go to the hospital because of breathing (呼吸) problems. Hot weather also causes 20% more heart problems in cities.

Air pressure can affect our sleep. Before storms, low (低的) air pressure causes poor sleep. People sleep half an hour less than usual. 

Weather can affect how we learn.  A study shows when classroom temperatures are too high, students' maths marks drop. Another study says that getting enough sunlight can help old people remember things better.

Rainy days make about 30% of people feel sad, but snow makes about 25% of people happy. Warm days around 20℃ with a light wind make most people feel relaxed.

Weather is not just about being hot or cold.  Knowing about weather changes is important for our health, studies and feelings.

Some people take a morning shower to wake up. An evening shower, however, can help your body relax and get ready for sleep, especially if you turn off or turn down the lights. It is called "dark showering" and is getting popular online. Then, how can dark showering get us prepared for sleep?

Light affects how we sleep. When we open our eyes in the morning, sunlight lets our brain know it is time to wake up. As day turns to night, our brain makes a special thing called melatonin. It makes us feel sleepy. Bright light at night lowers (降低) the level (水平) of melatonin. A dark room, however, raises melatonin and helps the body get ready for sleep. This is why "dark showering" may help us fall asleep more easily.

Temperature is important for sleep, too. A warm shower raises our body temperature for a short time. After the shower, our bodies cool down quickly. This change in temperature is like what happens naturally before sleep. So a warm shower before bed can help us get ready for sleep.

Dark showering can also relax our minds. When the lights are less bright, there's less (更少的) to see. Our brain gets less information, so it can calm down (冷静). With fewer things around, we can focus more on other things. We might notice the warm water on our skin. We might listen to the sound of the shower. Focusing on these things can help us relax.

For many people, "dark showering" can be a calm way to end the day and get ready for sleep. If you want to try it, remember to take care when getting in and out of the shower.

Do you love cute and lovely animals? Do you want to enjoy yourself and help animals in need at the same time? If your answer is yes, come and join our volunteer (志愿者) activities! We hope more people can care for and protect animals together.

We have many different easy volunteer jobs for you to choose from. At the Horse Sanctuary, you need to feed horses carefully and clean their living areas every day. At the Buddy Center, we need people to walk dogs. You will help take dogs outside for walks and try your best to help them find loving homes. At the Cat Care Center, cat care helper will play with lovely cats, feed those shy but sweet little cats, and keep their small beds clean and tidy. Wildlife Garden volunteers will plant flowers and make bird food boxes to make our town a safe and nice home for birds and insects.

We also hold a special fun run to raise money for animals. People can choose to run 2 km, 5 km or 7 km. Each runner pays 2 dollars to join in the activity. All the money we raise will be used to help animals. The fun run will be held on April 20 in Central Park. Both kids and grown-ups are welcome to join.

Zhang Lin was a smart student, but he had a bad habit of being late. This often caused him to miss parts of his classes, making his homework difficult to understand. He didn't think it was a big problem, though. Being late also affected his friendships. When his best friend invited him to his birthday party, Zhang Lin showed up late and missed the cake-cutting and some fun games. His friend was unhappy and stopped talking to him for a while.

One day, Zhang Lin joined a singing competition (比赛) in his neighborhood. He had an amazing voice, and he was thrilled when he got into the final round (决赛). His family and friends really hoped he would win. On the day of the final round, Zhang Lin dressed up nicely, had a good breakfast and practiced his song. Before leaving, he decided to play a quick game on his computer. He kept telling his mom, "Just five more minutes!" But those minutes turned into more.

By the time they arrived, it was 5 minutes before the competition. But Zhang Lin couldn't get into the competition hall because all singers had to arrive 15 minutes earlier. Zhang Lin had no choice but to leave, feeling disappointed. Zhang Lin's story tells us that being on time is really important. If you're not on time, you can miss out on something amazing.

The school sports meeting is coming soon. To make it a success, we are looking for student volunteers.

Qiongkushitai is a wonderful small village in Xinjiang. Deep in the , it keeps traditional local culture and thousands of tourists visit it every year.

In morning, sheep and horses walk on green grasslands. Snow-capped mountains, thick forests and clear rivers make the village look like a fairyland (仙境). Local people live in special houses. They use wood to build houses and cover each top grass. This smart way keeps houses in winter and cool in summer. Now, great changes have place here. More local people choose to stay in winter. They turn their houses into homestays (民宿). At the same time, more and more young people return from cities to their businesses. They improve old buildings and create comfortable rooms in the local styles.

The village keeps its own culture while making travel more interesting and special. Some young people design fun such as making handmade soap and counting sheep in traditional ways. Following travelers, some of them live a new "traveling life", moving between scenic spots (旅游景点) in different seasons.

Today, Qiongkushitai mixes old traditions with modern life. The local people live a life than before. The village shines with natural beauty and lively culture.

Long long ago, a kind man, Liu Bei, wanted to save his people and build a strong country. Someone told him a wise man (call) Zhuge Liang could help to achieve his dream. So Liu Bei decided to visit him.

Zhuge Liang lived in a cottage (茅屋). The first time Liu Bei went there, Zhuge Liang was away. A few (day) later, he visited again. But Zhuge Liang was still not at home. His men felt (tire) and wanted to give up. However, Liu Bei didn't lose heart. He said he must (visit) the wise man.

Foreign guests also speak highly of the kindness of Chinese people. Though they speak different languages, Chinese people are always glad to tell the ways and help foreigners solve problems. In Shantou, an American student left her passport in a taxi. The driver found it and returned it to her at once. Foreigners can carry phones and bags casually (随意地) on the street. People trust each other very much.

In Guiyang, a Russian woman has lived there for many years. She not only enjoys rich night life and local food but also loves the slow life and friendly environment. She shares her experiences online to invite more friends to visit China.

With its government and people's efforts, China is making itself a comfortable and safe place to travel and live.

How to Make a Simple Water Filter (简易净水器)

How to make dirty water clean?  It is easy and fun.

What do we need?

We need a big plastic bottle, some small stones, charcoal (炭), clean sand and a piece of cloth.

Cut off the bottom of the bottle. Turn it upside down. Put the materials inside one by one.

First, put the cloth at the bottle neck.

Then, put the charcoal on the sand. Finally, put the stones on the top.

How does it work?

Let's pour dirty water into the bottle.

The stones stop big rubbish like leaves.

The charcoal is like a cleaner. 

The sand catches small dirt that we cannot see.

The cloth stops everything else from falling out.

The water looks clean now, but it is not safe to drink yet! 

Science is everywhere. With this simple device (设备), we can turn dirty water into much cleaner water.

① When you hold a beautiful modern book, do you know how it slowly developed from ancient books?

② Over 3,000 years ago in ancient China, people carved (刻写) words on turtle shells (龟壳) and animal bones for predicting the future. These were the earliest books.

③ Before paper was invented, bamboo slips (竹简) and silk were widely used. They greatly influenced later book styles and writing rules. Even today, many rules of writing and book design still follow old traditions from that time.

④ When paper first appeared, it did not take the place of bamboo and silk at once. As paper-making skills improved, paper slowly became the main writing material. Ancient people often colored paper to protect it from insects and keep it lasting long. Many old paper books have been kept well for over a thousand years.

⑤ From shells and bones to bamboo and silk to paper, the development of books in China records rich history and culture. It truly shows the great wisdom and creativity of ancient Chinese people.

Many people used to believe that crying means weakness, especially for men. However, holding back tears can harm our bodies, while sometimes crying actually helps us relax and stay healthy.

Scientists did a research on tears. At first, they asked volunteers to watch a sad movie and collected their tears. Secondly, they made the same people cry by cutting onions. The results were very different. Tears from sadness can take away harmful chemicals (化学物质). If the chemicals stay in our bodies for too long, they may cause heart and blood problems. But tears from cutting onions can't.

More studies show that crying also creates another helpful chemical. This chemical helps wounds heal (愈合) faster. In fact, the more a person cries after getting hurt, the sooner he or she will recover. So crying is not that bad. It is natural medicine for our bodies.

Anybody may meet difficulties or feel sad from time to time. We do not need to pretend (假装) to be strong. Remember that people who allow themselves to cry are healthier.

So, just let tears drop when you feel down!

Once upon a time, there was a little horse living with his mother alone on a farm happily. One sunny morning, his mother told him to take some corn to the other side of the river.

When the little horse got to the river, he stopped. He was afraid to cross it, because he didn't know how deep the river was.

He saw an old cow eating grass nearby. "Is the river deep?" he asked. The cow said, "Not at all. The water only comes up to my legs."

Just then, a small squirrel (松鼠) run by. "Don't go in!" she shouted. "The river is very deep. My friend died in it."

The little horse didn't know what to do. He went back home to ask his mother. His mother told him kindly, "Don't just listen to others. Try it yourself."

The little horse returned to the river. He walked into the water slowly. He found the river was just right for him. He crossed it safely.

From this story, we can learn that we should try things by ourselves instead of only listening to other people.

At the top of the Huaguo Mountain, there was a special stone. It took in light1 the sun and the moon. Years later, a little life 2 inside the stone.

One day, the stone broke into pieces. A stone egg came out. When the wind blew it, it turned into a stone monkey. He looked 3 and lively. He greeted the world around him and then 4 the other monkeys. The little monkey enjoyed 5 life on the mountain.

Believe it or not, milk tea isn't new at all in China! In ancient (古代) China, most of the milk came from different (area) in the north, while tea grew in the south.

In the Sui and Tang dynasties (朝代), people brought many milk foods to the CentralPlains. When rich people made tea, they began putting one of these milk foods in the tea.They wanted (create) a special taste.

In the Yuan Dynasty, milk tea (become) common. It was a favourite drink in people' s (day) lives at that time. People (usual) bought it in the tea houses.Different from the sweet milk tea we drink today, the milk tea in ancient times was mostly salty.

In the Qing Dynasty, milk tea was not only a drink but an important part court rituals (宫廷仪式). There was special office to make milk tea with its own cows and spring water. The emperors would give milk tea to (they) officials after important activities. Can you guess  was a big fan of milk tea? It was Emperor Qianlong! He enjoyed milk tea  wrote a poem to praise it.

No rules, no order. What may (发生) if there are no rules on the road? Cars and bikes move (快速地) on the road. People cross busy streets anytime, anywhere.Things may be out of order and (危险的)!

Luckily, our real world is not like that. We have rules. These rules keep everyone safe. Red means"stop", green means"go", and yellow means"slow down and be ready to stop". When every person (遵循) the same rules, there are fewer problems.

Different places sometimes have different rules. In the UK and Thailand, people use the left (边;侧) of the road. In the US and China, people (开车) on the right one. But the most important rules, like stopping at a red light, are the same in most places in the world. The (目标) is always the same: safety and order for all.

So, the next time you wait for a green light, remember it's not (只是) a colour. It's a (承诺) we all make to look out for each other.

Once upon a time, a fisherman caught a bottle in his fishing net. When he it,a great cloud came out and changed into a genie!

"Prepare tol" shouted the genie.  "A long time ago, I made a decision. If someone set me free, I would make them rich and . But no one ever came. After years and years of waiting, I got very angry. If anyone set me free, I would kill them  giving them anything."

The fisherman was very afraid and asked,"Why? Didn't I set you free  the bottle?"

"But I waited for so many !"
