Are you afraid of big storms? Many people are. But did you know some people go out to chase (追逐) tornadoes (飓风)? Such storms can hit suddenly and move very quickly, so storm chasers always have to be prepared. 

When a tornado is about to hit, professional storm chasers try and get close to it to collect important information. Storm chaser Tim Samaras designed and built many different instruments for studying tornadoes. Throughout his career, the engineer chased down more than 120 tornadoes. 

During a storm, storm chasers put special equipment in the way of the tornado. The equipment collects information about things such as wind speed and air pressure. This helps scientists to make better forecasts. It can even help people understand how powerful the winds can be, and as a result, change how we build our houses. 

Storm chasing can be exciting, but also very dangerous. The storm chasers' knowledge and experience are not always enough to keep them safe. On 31st May, 2013, Samaras and his team were chasing the El Reno tornado in Oklahoma, USA. To their surprise, the tornado behaved(行为) in an unexpected way. It grew rapidly and changed its speed and direction. 

On that terrible day, the largest tornado appeared. It was 4. 2 kilometers wide and had winds topping 480 kilometers per hour. While the tornado was moving towards them, Samaras and his team were driving as fast as they could. Sadly, when the tornado hit their car, it threw their car into the air like a toy. All three men in the car died. 

The story of Tim Samaras is very sad, but his work continues to play an important role in weather science. Though storm chasing remains a dangerous job, the goal of storm chasers is to learn more about storms to keep people safe. For people like Samaras, that goal makes it all worth it. 

Ladies and gentlemen, thank you for inviting me to speak to you about Blue Sky Rescue today. Let me begin with my own story. 

Back in 2008, I was hiking in the mountains with some friends when one of them fell and got a bad head injury. We had to find help quickly, so we called an emergency(紧急情况) number. It was already dark, and we couldn't even see where we were. After some time, we heard dogs barking and the voices of the Blue Sky Rescue team. I nearly started crying. We were so thankful that they found us!

I've never forgotten that day. Since then, I've wanted to help others too. I signed up with Blue Sky Rescue in 2009, and I've been a volunteer ever since. We've been to schools and other communities to teach children and adults how to stay safe and prepare for the worst. We've also rescued people during emergencies. We've given them medical aid(援助) and searched for missing people after natural disasters. 

Working as a volunteer has taught me many practical life saving skills. It has also helped me understand the power of teamwork because it's the key to successful rescues. Most of all, being a volunteer has taught me the value of every life. 

The work is difficult. We often go without food or sleep. But our primary goal has always been to save as many people as we can. I'm just an ordinary person, but I'll rush into danger, just like everyone else in Blue Sky Rescue. To the people we've saved, I know we' re their heroes. And that makes everything we do worth it. We want to do even more, but we can't do it all alone. Will you join us as a volunteer? Together we can make a difference!

When I arrived, it was early morning and it was raining. I looked to the east—the sky was becoming grey. I got out of the car, went through a gate and walked along a dark path. There was nothing to see, but I knew it was there. 

After about a mile, a stranger appeared beside the path. "Am I going the right way?" I asked. He knew where I was going. "Yes, "he replied, "you'll get there in five minutes. "Finally, I came to some rocks and stopped. I looked over them, but it was silent and there was no sign of it. 

Suddenly, the rain stopped and the clouds cleared. The sun rose behind me and shone on the rocks. Far below me, the ground fell away and down to a river I was looking across one of the wonders of the natural world—the Grand Canyon. 

I looked down to the Colorado River, a silver stream nearly one mile below me. If you put the two tallest buildings in the world on top of each other at the bottom of the canyon, they still would not reach the top. Then I looked across to the other side of the canyon. It was about fifteen miles away, maybe more. Finally, I looked to my left and to my right, and on both sides the canyon went far away for more than 200 miles. The Grand Canyon was not just big. It was huge!

I remained by the canyon for about half an hour, and I asked myself, "Is the Grand Canyon the greatest wonder of the natural world?"I certainly know the answer. What do you think?

Chinese New Year marks the beginning of a new year in the traditional Chinese calendar. This calendar follows both the moon and the sun.

In China, Chinese New Year is a time for family. People visit relatives, receive red envelopes and buy new clothes. Many Asian countries also celebrate this festival, but they have different customs.

In South Korea, Seollal is the Korean Lunar New Year. On this day, young people bow deeply to their elders and wish them good luck. In return, their elders give them small gifts of money. The money is often put in silk bags with beautiful designs.

Koreans often wear traditional clothes called hanbok. They also prepare food to remember their ancestors(祖先). After that, the family eats the food together. Rice cake soup is a popular food duringSeollal.

In Vietnam(越南), the festival is called Tet. Vietnamese celebrations are similar to Chinese celebrations in some ways. Receiving red envelopes, showing respect for ancestors(祖先) and spending time with family are important parts of the festival.

Vietnamese people also eat special food during Tet. Banh chung is rice with pork inside. It is wrapped in leaves. Another traditional food is Xoi gac. It is red sticky rice. The red color means good luck.

Tejasvi Manoj, a seventeen-year-old girl, was deeply upset when her grandfather nearly got scammed (被骗) online. One day last year, her grandfather (search) online.Suddenly, he received  email from someone, saying he was a member of his family and asked for $2,000. Her grandfather felt very strange, he called his son first and finally found it was not true.

Tejasvi realized that many elderly people face such cyber scams, and she felt very angry about this. She decided (make) a website to help the people over sixty and named it"ShieldSeniors". She visited many local communities and (patient) introduced her website to the seniors. At first, she was (worry) that no one would show interest, but surprisingly,many of them were interested  her website. She did her best to teach them to stay safe online.

Since the website started, it (help) over five hùndred old people stay safe online already. Many seniors now feel (confident). Tejasvi hopes to expand(扩展) her website to more cities."I really love solving real-world problems with my computer skills," she said proudly.

Yameng's Home is a special guesthouse in Qingdao. It is a place for people with 1 . It is

run by Cui Yameng, who turned her own home into a warm and welcoming place.

What is a typhoon?

A typhoon starts over the sea when warm and cool air meet. When the storm becomes so strong that winds are over 62 km/h, we have a typhoon.

What do all the signals(信号) mean?

In Hong Kong, people use typhoon signals to tell how dangerous a storm may be.T1means a typhoon is still far away, but people should start to get ready. T3 means the storm is coming closer. Boats should be tied up, and drains(排水口) should be kept clear.

When the weather gets worse, T8 may be given. People should go home early and stay in safe places.

What should I do to be safe?

 High waves and strong winds can be very dangerous. You should also keep your home safe. Make sure windows and doors are closed. Move flowerpots and other things away from windows.

Some people like to put tape on windows before a typhoon. But this is not a good idea. Tape cannot stop glass from breaking.

Have you heard of or read The Tale of Peter Rabbit? It is a simple story of a naughty young bunny, written and illustrated(画插图) by Beatrix Potter. Let us learn about the life of one of the most beloved children's authors.

Beatrix Potter was born into a rich family in London in 1866. Her family often took long holiday trips to the countryside, where Potter and her younger brother could roam(漫步) the fields freely. They also kept many small animals as pets —— rabbits, frogs, mice, and even bats!

Potter began drawing from a young age. She would spend hours watching her pets closely and drawing them. Although Potter never went to school, she enjoyed learning natural sciences. She was especially curious about fungi(真菌), and made very detailed scientific illustrations. Potter also loved reading fairy tales such as those of Andersen.

Whenever Potter went on holiday, she sent letters to her friends with her quick sketches. One day, she made up the story of Peter Rabbit to her friend's five-year-old son. Potter liked the story and decided to turn it into a book.

However, one by one, publishers (出版方) turned her down. Instead of giving up, Potter self-published 250 copies of the book to friends and family. The book was so well-loved that one of publisher reconsidered their decision and printed The Tale of Peter Rabbit in 1902. It was an immediate bestseller. After then, Potter continued to write and draw, and many more stories about animal characters followed.

Not many people can honestly say they like taking exams, as we usually get nervous before and during an exam. When the results are about to be announced, we fear not passing. But exams are important because they test how much we know and what we have learnt.

Both students and adults have to take exams. Many adults with full-time jobs study for professional qualifications(资格). They may attend classes after work or study by themselves on weekends. Without exams, it would be difficult to tell a person's academic(学术的) ability.

Revision(复习) can be stressful for those preparing for an exam. It can be hard to motivate(激励)yourself when you can hang out with friends having fun instead of sitting at a desk revising.Therefore, it is important to keep a balance between revising and taking short breaks. Set a study plan so you can study step by step instead of overloading your brain a day or two before the exam.

A common phrase of encouragement for those about to sit an exam is‘You can only do your best'. And this is true as no one wants to fail an exam. However, exams do not determine your worth,and the results of one test are only part of your learning journey, where you can improve next time.
