There's always something we treasure a lot in our lives. As I was cleaning the bookcase this morning, I saw a book on the top shelf (架子). I got it down carefully and took out the letter in it. My memories came back quickly. 

When I was a young boy, I was interested in crochet (钩针编织). I began to learn it by watching videos online. I found it was great fun. However, something unhappy happened. One day, an older boy at school heard of my hobby and laughed at me. "It's silly for boys to crochet," he said. His words hurt me deeply and I decided to give up crocheting. 

A few days later, my teacher Mr. Green noticed I was upset. When he got to know the truth, he didn't say anything. He just brought me a special gift. When I opened it, I saw a book about great people, and there was a letter in it. The letter read, "Don't let anyone tell you what you can or can't do. Be yourself." Thanks to him, I got the courage to continue my hobby. 

Over the following years, I worked hard to improve my skills and became an excellent crochet artist. Now I have a shop to sell beautiful crochet things I make. Even today, the letter still means so much to me. It reminds me to follow my heart, whatever others say. 

Do you like doing homework while listening to music? Or will you fold clothes when watching a show? Everyone may experience these situations in daily life and this doing-it-all-at-once thing is known as multitasking. 

Multitasking means doing more than one activity at a time. In daily life, many of us multitask without even realizing it. But does multitasking really do good to our lives? 

You may think multitasking saves your time, but the truth is that only 2.5% of people can multitask well. Studies have found that most people who multitask will spend more time and make more mistakes. That's because when we multitask, we are overusing (过度使用) the part of our brain that controls thinking and planning. It is hard on our brains. Our brains will get tired, and since we have not successfully finished any task, we can feel upset and stressed. Instead, if we only deal with one task at a time, we will do a better and more correct job. 

However, others may disagree. They think people multitask not only because they want to save time but also because they enjoy it. Some scientists find that multitasking makes people feel more active and have a better sense of participation (参与感). These good feelings will improve their performance and offer a feeling of satisfaction. Also, multitasking is a modern way of life and an important skill you should learn as you grow up. After all, who doesn't want to complete more in less time? Instead of stopping multitasking, it's better to learn how to deal with so many tasks well. 

It seems that multitasking is playing an important role in our lives. But it may not be as useful as you expect. What do you think? Should we keep it or drop it? 

The Most Valuable Player (MVP) award was what I hoped to get. Back in Grade 6, soccer became my favorite sport. I wasn't the best player on the team at the beginning of the year. But after a lot of hard work, by the end of the year, I felt that I was the MVP. As the soccer season went on, we finally finished second in the city. Our team was a very good team, and I was a big part of that. Kenny was the captain, but I was the player who scored the most goals on the team. Kenny would always pass the ball to all his players. 

At the end of the year, there was a sports dinner at school. People got prizes for excellent performance. Everyone on the team felt that I would get the MVP. At the end of the dinner, the coach stood up and announced (宣布) the winners for the prizes, "The winner for the MVP is Kenny." 

How could that be? I couldn't believe my ears. After the event, the coach came up to me and explained. He said, "You were the best player on the team, but you did not pass the ball. You were out there for yourself but not for the team. You have to realize that soccer is about the team, not about one individual player." I was ashamed of what the coach had said. 

Now I am in Grade 8 and the captain of the soccer team. I feel that I have learned that a team sport is not just about you. It is about "us". Now I am both a better player and a better captain because of this. 

In the modern age of social media and digital distractions, building good relationships with classmates has become a challenge for many middle school students. Here are some useful tips to help you get along well with your classmates.

In group discussions or when your classmates are sharing something, put away your phone and give them your full attention. Look into their eyes, nod, and show that you are interested in what they are saying. This makes them feel respected and valued.

Whether it's a school project, a sports event, or a club activity, joining in it can help you get to know your classmates better. Working together towards a common goal allows you to understand their strengths, weaknesses, and personalities. It also creates shared memories that can strengthen your bond.

Avoid complaining all the time. A positive attitude is contagious. When you are positive, your classmates are more likely to be positive, too. Try to find the good in every situation and share your positive energy with others.

Your classmates come from different families, have different hobbies and ways of thinking. Don't judge them for being different. Instead, learn from their differences and try to understand their perspectives.

If a classmate is having trouble with schoolwork or facing difficulties in life, offer a helping hand. Small acts of kindness can go a long way in building strong friendships. 

The Queen ant woke up on a warm summer's day. In a few months' time, winter would arrive. Her army of ants had been working hard to collect food for the winter. However, there was still a shortage of food for every ant in the army. 

So the Queen ordered her soldier ants to work all day and all night without resting for the next few weeks. Since all her soldier ants were strong and well-trained, they followed her order and did their best to store the food for the coming winter. However, a young soldier ant, Sam refused to work. He thought to himself, "Why don't I just rest since there are so many other ants working for the Queen? There must be enough food for the winter with other ants' work." 

Soon, the captain ant found that Sam was not working. He informed the Queen at once. She was so angry that she wanted Sam to leave the army. Sam begged the Queen to forgive him. "Please do not send me away. I promise to turn over a new leaf," cried Sam. 

"Well, I will let you off this time but I hope you have learned an important lesson. Everyone should play a part in the army. It's wrong of you to sit around and just hope to gain something from the team," said the Queen.
