How's it going? I'm writing to share with you something interesting in my US trip. Before returning, I went shopping for some gifts. I thought my families and friends would expect (receive) something exactly American. I wanted to buy American toy car for my cousin. However, to my surprise, although I (visit) store after store, I couldn't find one! Can you believe that most of the things in the American stores (make) in China? Not only everyday things like food, handbags and shoes even the American flags! I'm really surprised to find China is doing so well in making things! And it makes me proud being a Chinese. 

When staying in the US, I also made many American friends. They are very  (interest) in Chinese culture! I showed them paper cutting and they asked me lots of (question) about life in China. 

This is a wonderful trip! More (important), I see how China is winning the world.

Chinese noodles have a long history. In Northern China, noodles are the main food in (日常的) life and people eat them with (筷子). Noodles were first (提到) in the Eastern Han Dynasty. At that time, noodles were called"cakes". They were"cakes" that were (煮沸) in water. Mian became the name of noodles in the Song Dynasty. Before that, there was no specific name for this kind of food. There are all kinds of noodles, such as cold noodles, warm noodles, and flat noodles. These noodles are produced or (加工;处理) with different methods, such as brushing, pressing, and rolling. Besides, different noodles are made with different (材料;原料). 

With great (受欢迎;普及) in Northern China, dragon bear d noodles have a history of more than 300 years. It is not clear  (确切地) how they were (创造) in the first place, but the legend says that a royal chef first made them to please the emperor in the Ming Dynasty. It is said that they got the name for being almost as thin as a human hair. 

Chinese food is famous all around the world. It is loved  people at home and abroad. It has variety of tastes and styles. Local dishes show the area's special culture. , hot and sour soup is popular and it is  loved for its tangy(浓烈的)flavor. It's a tasty start to a meal. are also a favorite for kids. They come in many styles, some sweet and some with a bit of sour. They are a  treat that people enjoy. Each cookie or dish  a story of Chinese food's history and tradition. 

What's your favorite food? What is it made of? The following passage tells the story of how the special sauce made with love by Grandma and Dad.

It was about 10 years ago, on a cold, grey winter day. The rain soaked(浸湿) my clothes and chilled my bones. I was walking to visit my 1 . I knocked on his door and 2 into his house. Warm steam(蒸汽) came from the kitchen. It touched my 3 and suddenly I felt like I was 8years old again. Dad was making Grandma's special sauce(调味汁). 

Growing up, Grandma would make 4 an Italian dinner every Sunday. She would 5 cook her spaghetti sauce for hours, throwing in olive oil, salt, sugar, pepper, and bay leaves. Then she would 6 potatoes, chicken, and sometimes even meatballs. When it was ready, we would mix it in the spaghetti, 7 it on plates, and sprinkle(撒上) cheese on top. It always left our bellies(肚子) full, our hearts 8 and our house smelling yummy. 

I sat down when Dad made me a plate. I felt like a 9 again. We talked about those old times and 10 over the memories, both good and bad. And I noticed something, too. I didn't feel 11 anymore. My heart was warm, and my spirit was light. 

Dad and Grandma have been gone for 12 now. I still miss them both every single day. We don't cook Grandma's special sauce as often as we should, 13 my daughter and I both know how to make it. No matter how hard I try, I can 14 get it quite right. Maybe I am missing an ingredient. Or maybe, it was just the love with which they cooked it that made it so delicious. Either way, this 15 , I am going to make it again. I need its warmth. I need its goodness. 

Students from Beijing Academy Develop Unique Cultural Products

In early November, 2024, Lin Jiawen, a student at Beijing Academy, bought a rabbit card holder made by the school's Cultural Creativity Club. It cost just 7. 9 yuan. "I love this design because it has our school's logo(标志), " said Lin. 

 It is started after a school trip to Henan earlier this year. "The province's rich culture inspired(启发) us to create products that mix tradition with modern style, " said Peng Shaohang, one of the club's founders. 

The club has made two main products: the Tiger-head Shoes Pen and the Rabbit Card Holder. In Chinese culture, tiger-head shoes bring good luck and health. They kept the tiger-head design but added a modern touch by using school's name on the pattern. 

The Rabbit Card Holder was inspired by the rabbits raised in school that the students really like. It also includes the school motto(校训):"Benevolence, Wisdom, Courage, and Happiness(仁、智、勇、乐). " Each rabbit shows one of these values. For example, the benevolent rabbit plants trees to protect the environment. The wise rabbit flies a drone(无人机) to show intelligence and science. 

The club's products are sold both online and offline. "Through creativity and hard work, we're making a real change in our school and community, " said Kan Zhixing, a member of the club.

①China is famous for having the best high- speed train network in the world. Now, a new train called CR450 is breaking speed records!

②CR450 can go very fast, with an average(平均的) speed of 400 km/h and a top speed of453 km/h. Before this, the fastest high- speed train in a rail network in the world is China's CR400, which runs at 350 km/h on average. Once put into use, for example, the CR450 will shorten the travel time from Beijing to Shanghai to just about two and a half hours, which takes at least four and a half hours at the moment. 

③"The key is not to make the train run fast but to have it brake(刹车) accurately and steadily(平稳地), " Zhao Hongwei of the China Academy of Railway Sciences told CCTV News. It travels a lot faster, but the standard is that the CR450 should have the same brake distance(距离) as the CR400, which is 6, 500 meters. It can also start braking more quickly, taking just 1. 7 seconds compared to the 2. 3 seconds needed for the CR400. 

④Engineers tested the brakes a lot to make sure they work well. In the tests, the brake disc(制动盘) got really hot, reaching temperatures of up to 700℃. Its color changed from black to red. The changes were then recorded. All the data were saved in a smart system to make a digital model of the brake system. 

⑤Besides having a faster speed and better braking system, CR450 is also lighter and uses less energy than CR400, according to CCTV News. This means that the CR450 uses less fuel or power to run, which is good for the environment because it reduces pollution. And a lighter train also needs less energy to move, so it can travel farther on the same amount of fuel. 

⑥With all these advantages, people are very excited to see this new train and experience its speed and comfort. China's high-speed train network is truly impressive, and the CR450 is just another example of its greatness!

More than 50 years ago, a famous British band called the Beatles split up(解散). They haven't recorded any music together since then, but artificial intelligence(AI) has helped to create one last Beatles song. This is just one of the ways that AI is changing the world and how we live. As technology improves, the use of AI is spreading. 

The invention of AI          In the 20th century, scientists began to wonder if computers could think like us. In 1950, the British expert Alan Turing created"the Turing test" to see whether a computer is intelligent. During this test, a human tester puts questions to a person and a computer at the same time. Both answer the questions, and the tester must decide which answers came from the human. If the tester can't tell the two apart, the computer is intelligent. Many people believe AIs that can

write, like the ChatGPT system, have already passed this test. 

____AI  is part of everyday life. It can study lots of information and work out from that what is likely to happen next. Self- driving cars, for example, use AI to make decisions. In hospitals, AI can study information about thousands of people to work out what might be wrong with a patient from their test results. Tools like ChatGPT can write computer code, stories, and even solve math problems. 

The future of AI     Some people worry about how AI might influence their jobs. If computers can create pictures, music, and text, could artists, musicians, and writers one day be replaced? Many people also fear that AI could be used to invent and spread lies. Even those who work in AI say there should be rules about how it is used. However, AI can spark(激发) creativity, too. AI is very good at suggesting drugs to treat diseases, and can even invent new medicines. It can help us fight weather change by finding clever ways to reduce our energy use. One day it might even find a way to solve our energy needs completely. 

The envelope is designed to protect letters. It is so common today that we often take it for granted. But did you know when and where the envelope first appeared? The history of envelopes is probably much longer than you think. 

It is believed the envelope first appeared in ancient China. It was used to protect royal messages. 

However, the early envelope was nothing like what we use today. It was made from clay and looked like a ball. After the message was put into it, the envelope would be sealed(密封) with more clay. To read the message, one had to break the"envelope". 

The first paper envelope appeared around 200 B. C. It was also invented by the Chinese. However, at first, people used it only to send money to each other as gifts. It was not until around the seventh century that it was used for sending messages. The design of the early paper envelope was very simple. It was just a sheet of paper folded and sealed with wax(蜡). Since the envelope was made completely by hand, it was very expensive. 

In the 19th century, printing and manufacturing methods improved greatly. In 1853, American inventor Russell L. Hawes invented an envelope maker. The machine could produce about 2, 500envelopes per hour. With these improvements, the cost of envelopes went down. The design also became more complex. 

Today, e- emails have become more popular than handwritten letters.    However, billions of envelopes are used around the world every year. They are still part of modern life.

Zhao Yang,  Chinese girl, studies in Strasbourg, France. She becomes famous for (play) the pipa in the streets of Strasbourg. 

Zhao started playing the pipa  the age of four and now shares her music with people from all over the world. She began performing in the streets for a video project and (find) that many people enjoyed her music. Then Zhao started to play the pipa regularly in the streets of France in her free time. 

Zhao not only plays classical pipa music but also wants to try new  (way) to play the pipa. In 2023, she played a song from a French opera  it was her first time mixing the pipa playing with modern music. After that, she started to use bass guitar methods in her pipa playing for rock and pop music. Zhao thinks that playing the pipa in different styles can make the pipa even  (popular) and give it new life. 

Zhao says, "People really pay attention to my shows, and it's amazing to see (they) enjoying the music and learning about our culture. " Zhao believes that her music can change people see Chinese culture. She wants to show that the pipa can  (use) in many different kinds of music, not just traditional Chinese music. 

Keeping Healthy— Stories from Around the World

Running for fun     Run in your (空闲的) time! It helps you to keep healthy. Millions of people run several days a week and take an active part in races. To (支持) others, some runners join the sport and do something (有帮助的). Last autumn in Tokyo, the (首都) of Japan, some runners wore crazy costumes(服装) and ra n a full marathon to collect money for charity(慈善). 

A beautiful morning in a park      Taijiquan is a traditional sport (广泛地) spread in China. You will see big groups of people doing taijiquan in (公开的) places such as parks and squares(广场). These slow movements of the arms and legs are very good for your health. Mr. Lee, a doctor, often shares his experience, saying that doing taijiquan helps him overcome stress and feel  (放松的). 

Ice swimming (推断;料想) you are somewhere in Russia or Finland in winter, and it's — 15℃outside. Would you (更喜欢) to see a film or to go for a swim in a pool on a fine Saturday afternoon? Not many of our readers would choose to swim in such (低的) temperature. But in some countries, ice swimming has been popular for almost 200 years. Some people say it can help strengthen the body. But you have to have the courage to try it and it's only for people who are already fit and healthy!

Chinese paper cutting is an amazing traditional art. There are  pictures, like flowers, animals and characters. Artists are  proud of their skills. Most traditional art requires painting skills  paper cutting, which focuses on the art of cutting and folding paper. The earliest paper cutting dates back to the 4th century in China. Artists different forms of paper cutting in the last few centuries. Now, it's popular around the world, showing the  of Chinese culture.

The head thinks the tradition is the same as the art of Neapolitan pizza(那不勒斯比萨) making and the grass cutting competition in other countries. He said, ""

The head himself likes to spend summer evenings in front of his house. He thinks the tradition is meaningful in several ways. Firstly, it keeps people away from the Internet. Then, it's good for the environment when people get out of their houses and turn off their air-conditioners(空调) for a few hours.  They share the day's experience, or talk about their ideas about the latest news. 

"I haven't heard villagers say any bad words about it, " the head said. "Every time they appear at their front steps, they show their action to save the tradition. "
