In 2025, a Chinese tech company DeepSeek surprised the world with its (late) AI model, DeepSeek-R1. This smart program can solve difficult math (problem), write code, and even chat like humans. Unlike other AIs that need huge costs, R1 was trained with very little money. 

DeepSeek-R1 learns by (practise) again and again. The more it tries, the (good) it becomes. A teacher in Thailand said, "It helps students learn (easy) than before. "

①Do you ever find yourself standing in front of rubbish bins, not sure whether the piece of waste in your hand is recyclable（可回收的）or not To solve this problem, four Hong Kong high school students have invented a smart rubbish bin that uses AI to sort（分类）the waste. The students named the bin Waste Collection Point. 

②Connected to a computer, the bin uses a camera to tell the kind of the waste it receives and sorts it into plastic, paper, glass, or other kinds. To make sure the bin can sort waste correctly, the team tested every product in the school shop and took at least 500pictures of each one. "To train the Al, we had to take many photos from different angles（角度）, so it has a better rate of accuracy. " said one of the students who built the AI system.

Dance Yangko at 2025 CCTV Spring Festival Gala

On January 28, 2025, a special performance called YangBOT amazed audiences at the CCTV Spring Festival Gala, China's most-watched TV show. Directed by famous filmmaker ZhangYimou, the show mixed traditional Chinese yangko dance with modern robot technology. 

In the performance, humanoid robots(robots shaped like humans) dressed in colorful costumes danced yangko, a joyful folk dance from northern China often seen during festivals. They spun handkerchiefs instantly and formed creative group patterns. These robots were developed by Unitree（宇树科技）, a Chinese robotics company. This was not Unitree' s first success--in 2021, their robot cows named"Ben Ben"（犇犇）danced as backup for singer Andy Lau. 

The robots learned dance moves through AI and used laser navigation to move safely on the uneven stage. Their strong joints (like knees with 360N. m power) helped them balance perfectly during fast steps. Zhang Yimou explained, "This dance isn' t just fun——it shows how technology（科技）can bring new life to traditions. "

Thanks to these innovations, the robots won the hearts of millions. On social media, topics like"Robot Yangko" trended quickly. Young viewers called it"cool, " while older audiences loved its humor and festive spirit. The YangBOT program is a perfect mix of China's tech progress and cultural pride. As one fan said, "It's like watching the future and past dance together!"

You must have heard of"city bu city"(meaning city or not city), an Internet buzzword（流行语）created by foreign blogger Baobaoxiong. It's used to ask if a place feels like a big, fashionable city. 

Millions of foreigners like Baobaoxiong are visiting China and posting their travel videos. The visa-free transit policy（过境免签政策）plays an important role in this trend（潮流）. Travelers from 54 countries can stay in China for up to six days without a visa as long as they have a travel document and a connecting ticket to leave. 

The visa-free transit policy started in 2013. Back then, it allowed travelers to stay for 72 hours in seven different big cities in China. Now, travelers can stay for 144 hours in 41places across 19 provincial areas. It has attracted more travelers to China. In the first three months of this year, 266 percent more foreigners came to China through visa-free policies compared with the same period last year, according to the National Immigration Administration of China（国家移民管理局）。

Yuyuantantian, a new media account（账号）under China Media Group, looked at 100China travel videos made by foreigners. It found foreigners used to visit famous spots like the Forbidden City and the Great Wall. But now they prefer experiencing everyday activities like shopping at markets, riding shared bikes and joining square dancing in parks. These activities give foreigners a closer look at everyday life in China, said Yuyuantantian.
