My father had been in hospital for days. When we got to the hospital, he still (cough) a lot. But his smile was as sure as ever. I stayed with him for the weekend, I had to go back to work on Monday. My cousins would look after him. I wanted to let him know that I (real) cared about him.

These notes helped improve his health. A few weeks later, I asked Dad what he was doing on  phone. He said, "Very good. I just found your note under my pillow!" 

Did you take part in a camp this summer? There are so many summer camps and not all of them are the same. To choose which camp is best for you, first you must do some research. Maybe you've never thought about it before, but every great summer camp has the same main goals—chance, challenge and growth. 

Chance means you can do something special. It also makes you special because other kids don't have the same chance. For example, if you are interested in writing, then you can choose to join a journalism(新闻工作) camp. You may have the chance of meeting famous journalists there. 

Challenge means you are given a task. You must finish the hard task and succeed in dealing with the challenge. Then you will have a sense of achievement. For example, you could take a lifeguard(救生员) course at some summer camps. If you pass the exam, then you will receive a certificate(证书) to become a real lifeguard. 

This also leads to the third and most important goal of very great summer camp—personal growth. It doesn't mean growing taller, stronger or more beautiful. It means seeing yourself improve, learning something new and doing something you didn't know or believe you could do before. It also means becoming more confident in yourself. 

So in the future when choosing your next summer camp, remember to ask yourself: Is it a special chance? Is it a challenge? Will I grow?

But what about friendship, fun and joy? These will all happen naturally when you have the right goals at summer camps!

Friendships don't just happen or develop by accident. They require time, effort, and following actions. There isn't one-size-fits-all way to make friends. But these ways may help guide your behaviour. 

Stay true to your word. If you make a promise to others, do so. If your friend breaks his promises for many times, I'm sure you will be unhappy. 

Make time for sharing ideas. The more "Yes" you say to invitations, the more helpful it will be for your friendship, especially in the early part of a friendship. 

Gradually sharing pieces of important or personal information. The process of self-disclosure(自我表露) is the best way to build trust in relationships. When we want a new friendship, don't tell your new friend your deepest secrets right away. 

Finally, make sure you both put equal(平等的) effort into the friendship. Good friendships are equal to each other. As time goes on, both of you put into your friendship tend to be equal.

It was a dark day in Canada in 1998 when rain began to fall from the sky.However, this was not ordinary rain—— it turned to ice as it fell through the cold air. It rained  six days, and as much as 10 cm of ice appeared on roads, trees and power lines.

On 5th January, the people of Montreal woke up to find they had no electricity in

(danger) to walk or drive anywhere. Families had to stay inside and burn wood to keep warm. They expected (get) the power back at any time.

However, the ice kept (fall). By the third day, many families had no food to eat. The army sent over 14,000 (soldier) to help. Finally,after six days, the ice storm stopped, but the trouble (be) not over. The huge amount of ice made the whole area very dangerous. Some families had no electricity for  whole month. It was hard for them (live).Many homes were damaged and many people lost their businesses. The people of Canada will never forget  terrible nature can be.
