Do you like eating wonton (馄饨)? It is not only popular in China, but also around the world. You can find it in North America,Southeast Asia and Australia. Wonton is like dumplings,only smaller. It is a kind of traditional food from northern China. It is said that during the Han Dynasty, the Xiongnu, an ancient tribe in northern China,had conflicts (冲突) with local people on the border. Hunshi and Tunshi were the two leaders (领导) of the Xiongnu. So people began to call their food "huntun" and wish for the end of the conflicts. 

In different parts of China,wonton has different names. In the north, it is called "huntun". In Guangdong, it is called "yuntun". People in Sichuan call it "chaoshou", while in the southeastern province of Fujian, it is called "bianshi". 

People usually eat wonton with soup. Sometimes they also deep fry (油炸) it. You make wonton with a square wrapper (面皮). You put some fillings in the wrapper,and push the outside of the wrapper together with your fingers. The most popular fillings are all kinds of meat and shrimp (虾).

Li Fanghui Wins China's First Gold at Harbin Asian Winter Games 

Harbin, Feb. 8  

Li Fanghui from China got the first gold medal for the host country at the 2025 Harbin Asian Winter Games. She won the women's freeski halfpipe (自由式滑雪U型) event at the Yabuli Ski Resort on Saturday.

The 21-year-old, who comes from Harbin, got a very good score of 95.25 points and took the first place. Zhang Kexin, another Chinese skier, got the silver medal with 89.25 points. Jang Yu-jin from South Korea got the bronze medal with 85.00 points.

Li said, "I was a substitute for Gu Ailing (谷爱玲) in this event and came back to China on Tuesday. Before my last run today, I didn't know this could be the first gold for China at the games. I was calm during the competition, but now I'm really excited."

This event was in her hometown, so she didn't want to miss it. Even though she was still hurt and her knee still ached, she kept going and did well.

Li is a rising star in Chinese freestyle skiing. She won silver at the 2016 National Winter Games and the 2020 Lausanne Winter Youth Olympics in the women's team freeski halfpipe. This time, after Olympic champion Gu Ailing dropped out because of injury, Li got the chance at the last minute and finally won the gold.

This win is not only a big thing for Li, but also a great start for the Chinese team at the 2025 Asian Winter Games.
