Leisa Duckwall is from Virginia, USA. She has been working at a school'scafeteria(自助餐厅) for over four years. Her 1 is to serve breakfast and lunch to the students.

In the past, the students there weren't 2 to talk to Duckwall because of her hearing problem. They just pointed to the 3 they wanted, and then she would serve them minutes later. Recently, however, things have changed a lot. It all started with one teacher, Kari Maskelony.

Maskelony is a fourth-grade teacher at the school. She 4 American SignLanguage (ASL) because some of her family members have hearing problems.One day, she started communicating with Duckwall in ASL in the cafeteria. The teacher noticed that the students there 5 eating. They watched the sign language communication with 6 .

The next day, Maskelony asked her students,"Would you like to learn how to use your hands to‘talk' to Duckwall?" Everyone in the class said yes 7 . She then began teaching the kids some simple ASL. They learnt how to greet Duckwall and how to 8 food.

When the headmaster 9 this, she decided that the whole school should learn to sign. Now, all the students and staff at the school learn and practise a new word in ASL every week. They are very 10 to learn this new skill. And Duckwall is feeling so loved at work!

Everyone can make a good change in the community. Helping others and giving back to the community is a dream for many people. Caleb is one of them. Let's have a look at his story.

National Volunteer Week started in 1974 and is held every April.  It is also a perfect chance to encourage others to take their first step towards becoming a volunteer. Making the decision to take the first step can be the most difficult thing, because people often wonder whether they will be able to meet the organization's expectations. Some people fear not knowing anyone else in the group. The following tips can help you if you have some of these worries. 

Firstly, start out slowly. Don't put too much pressure on yourself. Secondly, choose an organization with the same interests and common values as yours. Thirdly, take part in a training meeting for new volunteers, even if it is not required.  He volunteers a lot, and he can help you increase your confidence and better understand the organization's expectations.

In our daily lives, we always go through a lot of things. There are things that warm our hearts and keep us from (feel) cold even in winter. I've met people who have warmed my heart. 

It was a winter morning, cold as usual. While most people were warming up their cars, I had to get up early (ride) my bicycle 6 kilometres to work. On arrival, I parked my bike outside the door. After work, I (return), only to find my bike gone. 

This was my only transport. I used it to go to work, get food and support(I) family. I was very sad that someone stole my bike, so I wrote to the newspaper and told them my story. Shortly after that, several people in my neighbourhood offered to help. One kind stranger even bought  bike and asked me to pick it up. It was (real) moving that a stranger would help someone they had never seen before. 

Indeed, in life, a smile can be passed  one person to another, while acts of kindness from strangers are even more powerful. This experience has had a far-reaching effect on my life  it strengthened (增强) my faith. No matter how big or small, an act of kindness shows that someone cares and that someone is (help). And the (result) can be everlasting(永恒的).
