How do you feel when you hear leaves crunching (嘎吱作响) under your feet? It's believed that building a closer connection with nature can take your mind off your worries and make you feel calm. 

What is nature?

Nature means the world around us that is not created by people. It can control (控制) things like weather and the growth of animals and plants. You can find nature wherever you are: beaches, gardens, mountains and other places. 

Why does nature make us feel good? 

Spending time in nature brings calm and joy to our lives. It also takes us outdoors, gets us active and encourages us to care more about the environment (生态环境). Ralphie, aged 10, likes exploring nature on bike rides with his family. He says, "It makes me feel happy and takes my mind off things, because you have to pay attention. " 

How can I feel closer to nature?

Feeling closer to nature is simple, which means you can simply build a connection with nature by using your senses. Try listening closely to bird songs, touching the trees or following insects. Writing a poem, painting a picture and taking photos of your favourite natural places can help, too. 

Here are some activities that can help kids explore nature. Let the outdoor fun begin: 

Explore theSurroundings No need to be in a forest to explore nature. Start at the areas around you. For example, look at the corners of your backyard (后院), types of trees and leaves from the green.

Catch an Insect You can let the kids use a small bottle or bag to collect insects. After collecting insects, you can watch the insects and know about them, and the n set them free into the wild!

Plant a Flower Start by digging (挖掘) a hole. If your child is able for it, give him his own shovel (铲子) and watch him go to work. As your child starts digging, ask him what he can see. After the hole and the exploring part, let him plant a flower, and remind him to look after it every day. 

Collect Leaves & Explore

Autumn is the best season for it! Collect all the different kinds of leaves, and discuss the colours and shapes. You and your child can imagine you are scientists, looking carefully and drawing what you see. Hope you will enjoy it!

The Great Barrier Reef （大堡礁） is an amazing natural wonder in the ocean.It lies in the Coral Sea near Australia and is really huge.It is over 2，300 kilometers long and it is the largest coral （珊瑚） reef system on Earth.There are thousands of different kinds of corals.They are in different shapes， like branches （树枝）， fans and mushrooms.Lots of fish live here， too.They are of all sizes and colours， swimming freely among the corals.You can also see sea turtles， dolphins and even whales sometimes.The Great Barrier Reef is like a huge underwater garden.It's made up of lots of corals and many sea animals.

But sadly， the Great Barrier Reef is in trouble.It is not as beautiful as it used to be.Because of the climate change， the sea water is getting warmer.This makes the corals turn white and sick.Some parts of the reef look empty now.The fish and other sea animals that live in the reef are losing their homes.People also cause serious problems， too.Chemicals from farms and waste thrown into the sea make the water dirty.Too much fishing makes the number of fish go down.If we don't do something to protect it， we will lose this amazing place.We should try our best to keep the sea clean， so the Great Barrier Reef can stay beautiful and full of life.

A 14-year-old boy named Tony was on his way home after school.When he was the liftit suddenly stopped and didn't go up.Tony felt scared  he was in the lift alone.He the lift and tried to open the door.Soon， he gave up the idea.He thought the lift was  to fall down again.He then pressed all the buttons （按钮）.Although he hoped it would make the lift work again， it didn't work.Then Tony also pressed the "stop" button.Without a phone， he tried shouting loudly to get the of people outside， but no one answered. 

However， the young boy didn't give up.He sent out a to ask for help through the door.He hoped someone would it up.He knew it might take a long time before someone found the note and saved .So he decided to do his homework after he did what he could do.He stayed there for about half an hour.  ，  he was saved by a kind man.
