Reshi completed a 12-page children's book, Alice and Sparkle, with the help of a chatbot called ChatGPT. A chatbot is a computer program that uses AI to imitate human thinking and writing. The book's text was produced using it, and Reshi created illustrations (插图) using another AI program, Midjourney, which translates words into images.

Midjourney searches through millions of images across the Internet. It uses algorithms (算法) to find patterns in those images and create new ones. Think of the artists who upload their works online. Midjourney uses their works without their permission (允许).

Some companies have already chosen AI over human talent. At a comedy club, an AI-powered robot told jokes, instead of human beings. And the San Francisco Ballet used images generated by Midjourney to make its ballet show The Nutcracker more popular by advertising.

Many artists and writers are nervous about their future. Will people pay them for their work if it can be done more cheaply by using AI?

"As a person who makes money and finds joy in the writing, I'm troubled to see people look for cheap alternatives (替代品) rather than actual human writing," journalist Josephine says.

There should be protections for artists and authors whose work might be used in AI algorithms. There's real concern. The tech industry that's working on these tools should involve artists in the process of creation.

Change is actually happening all around us. Whether it is the change of season from winter to spring, change of favorite song, or it may even be a change of friendships.

Change is something that influences everybody, but we don't all experience or react to change in the same way. Some people are as "jumpy as a kangaroo" and can be affected by even a little change. However, other people can be as "cool as a cucumber".

For example, when the brain thinks the body may be in danger, the awareness of risks activates the sympathetic nervous system (交感神经系统) and leads to a quick stress response. It makes the heart beat faster so that it sends blood quickly to the different body parts that might need it. It prepares the body to fight or escape.

When something unexpected happens, it can be not so easy to manage. So it's normal for you teenagers to feel stressed when you are faced with a tough situation or decision. What you need to remember is this: you have a say in how you react to change. Rather than treat change like an enemy, we need to allow it to become our greatest friend.

"Now I'm hungry. I know where there's a great apple tree." Flora said to Emily, "It belongs to an old lady called Susan. I heard she's stubborn (固执的), but sometimes she gives fruit in return for an errand (跑腿)."

"Let's go!" Emily said. Flora's heart beat quickly as Emily knocked on the door.

"Yes?" the lady asked, staring at the girls.

"We heard ..." said Flora, "that we could run an errand for you in exchange for apples."

After the girls picked the ripest apples, Susan handed them a bag with rice and dried beans. "Take this bag and the large basket of apples to the Gomez family." Flora had heard Mr. Gomez had been sick in bed for a long time and Mrs. Gomez had to raise three little kids.

"And ask them for the payment," Susan added. Why was Susan so mean? The girls frowned (皱眉). Having no choice, they hit the road. When they arrived, they found Mr Gomez lying in bed and the kids were in rags (衣衫褴褛). Mrs. Gomez handed them an envelope and said it was the payment. Back at the farmhouse, the girls immediately gave Susan the envelope.

When Susan opened it, the girls saw the payment —     ▲     ! Emily and Flora broke out in smiles, knowing that what Susan had done was actually not a deal but a favor for the family.

"And here's your payment," Susan said, giving the small basket of apples to the girls. Then they enjoyed the treats. The apples were as sweet and warm as the feelings they had in the heart.

Beijing opera is very famous and people from all  the world like it. David from England is  lover of it, too.

Several years ago, David  (study) it at a university in Europe. Each student in the school had to go to another country to study the traditional opera there. David decided(go) to China to learn Beijing opera.

After he came to China, his teacher gave (he) a Chinese name, Tianmu. David enjoyed Beijing opera so much that he was never late any class. (usual), he was the last one to leave the classroom.

After you swallow your food, it goes down your throat and then into an important place-the stomach.  It helps break your food into small pieces. They can become good things to help you grow big and strong.

The stomach is like a small bag. It can take a lot of food! Every year, a person eats a lot of food, like l0 big bags of rice! That's a lot of food for your stomach.  If you eat too much or eat unclean food, your stomach might get hurt. So it's important for you to eat healthy food. And don't eat too much at one time. Now you know, when you eat food, it goes down your throat and into your stomach, and then it becomes small pieces to give you energy to help you grow! 

What can you do to protect your stomach? 

Lily loved being outside and hanging out with her friends. One sunny day, she and her friends decided to race to the park. They were all very 1 , ready to show off their speed. As the race started, Lily ran fast and took the lead. 2 suddenly, she tripped and fell, hurting her knee badly. She was in a lot of 3 .

Today there are stand-up clubs around the world. Why is stand-up comedy so popular? Because people think it is simple and fun. All you need is one person to stand up and make the whole room laugh. The performers are telling their own stories in a straightforward (直接的) and funny way. This makes people forget about their worries and leave a big smile on their faces. So if you're looking for a good time full of laughter, choose stand-up comedy!

When the teacher asks if anyone can speak in front of the class, you lower your head. When you go to the restroom or dining hall, you always try to find someone to go with you because you are afraid of being seen alone. Is that you?

Well, many people have these kinds of experiences. They are feeling social anxiety(社交恐惧). People with social anxiety may easily communicate with intimate ones, like their family members and old friends. But meeting new friends and talking in public can make them very shy and nervous. A recent survey from a newspaper, showed that about 45 percent of the 1,560 interviewees said they experienced social anxiety.

Zhongshan Park is popular in Xiamen. Every weekend, many people go there to relax. Some people are volunteers there. Xu Jingxuan is among them. As a middle school student, Xu always joins the volunteer activities in her city. Do you want to be a volunteer like Xu? Here are some suggestions for you.
