Last week, our class went on a study trip to the Space Museum. We were all curious about space, so we v this chance to learn outside the classroom, and it really turned out to be an unforgettable experience.

As we walked around, we saw many models of spaceships and satellites. The guide also explained many interesting d about how astronauts live in space. I was surprised to hear that they could also enjoy many different kinds of food and drinks there! After that, we could s our own favourite activity. I chose the rocket-building workshop while my best friend Peter preferred the 3D VR spaceship experience. It was w every minute because I finally understood how rockets work!

In this trip, I t realized how amazing space life is and how advanced space science has become. I hope to learn more about them in the future.

Chinese animation combines modern technology with traditional art techniques,  paper-cutting, shadow puppet performances and ink-wash painting.

Pigsy Eats Watermelon from 1958 was the first paper-cut animation. The film amazed audiences  China with its bright colours and lively animation style.

Two years later,  important breakthrough came with the first ink-wash animated film, Baby Tadpoles Look for Their Mother. This short film was influenced by the famous artist Qi Baishi, and it looks exactly like a traditional ink painting.

Lily is a 14-year-old girl with a strong love for art. She spends all her free time finding materials nearby and using them to create art.

One day she watched a video about an amazing chocolate sculpture. The chocolate was made into art by the skilled artist's hands. Lily was so amazed that she wanted to make one by herself.

However, things didn't go well. To start with, chocolate broke easily when she made it into a sculpture. But Lily didn't give up. After many tries, she learned to be careful with her tools. Another problem was that the chocolate started to melt (融化) before she could finish her work. She tried different ways, like working under the air conditioner, but it wasn't very helpful.

Thankfully, her friend Amy lent her a hand. Together, they researched and watched videos of chocolate artists working. By following them and keeping practising, her skills improved. Melting was no longer a problem. Finally, she created a chocolate sculpture with a lifelike quality.

She couldn't wait to show her work to her family and friends. They were all impressed. This sculpture was also enjoyed as a delicious treat. Since then, Lily has continued to make wonderful chocolate sculptures. As she explores her love for art, her creations bring joy to others too.

English is spoken by about 400 million people, mostly in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, New Zealand and South Africa. In Ghana, India and Singapore, it is used as a working language. In China and many other countries, English is the most important foreign language to learn at school. English is now used by nearly a quarter of the world's population. 

Why is English spoken everywhere? Because in the 19th century, English became the language of world trade.  It is now the common language for international travel, science, industry, and recently, information technology and the Internet.

 For example, "restaurant" is from French, "piano" from Italian, and "tofu" from Chinese.

 Many people think that Chinese will become as common as English by the middle of the 21st century. More schools in Europe are teaching Chinese. However, most people still think that English will be used most around the world, at least for the next twenty or thirty years.

So who owns English? The answer is everyone who speaks it — the British, the Indians and the Chinese all help make it a rich language.  We all own English.

Imagine a dinosaur in an ancient forest. It is running around, looking for its next meal. With an angry cry, it opens its mouth, raises its beautiful feather-covered arms, and...

Wait, feathers on a dinosaur? For hundreds of years, people believed that dinosaurs looked like huge lizards. Just look at all those dinosaurs in books, films and TV shows! However, thanks to a piece of amber (琥珀), scientists now know that this idea is wrong. In the amber from Southeast Asia, they found the tail of a dinosaur — with feathers.

These beautiful golden stones quietly keep pieces of the past. They can tell us whether dinosaurs had feathers, but that's not all. They also help us understand that life on Earth has always changed. A piece of amber from Northern Europe, for example, holds a flower. This species no longer grows in this area. But the find proves (证明) that it did 35 million years ago. In the future, amber may also help us discover whether other species have changed over time.

Thanks to amber, more than 300 unknown species have been discovered. In a piece of amber from Africa, scientists found 13 ants. Research shows that they are a completely new species. Scientists used to believe that ants came from the northern half of the Earth. The discovery of this African species has changed old beliefs about the history of ants. Who knows whether this piece of amber will tell us more secrets?

As a window on the past, amber has been much studied. However, it's still not fully understood. We should put more effort into research. Then we can use this key to unlock more secrets of nature.

My name is Zhang Yufu. I have been driving trucks (卡车) in Yunnan for 15 years. But nothing prepared me for the phone call on August 3rd, 2021. "We need you to guide some elephants," the voice said. "Elephants? In my truck?" With questions in my mind, I set off for Yuanjiang.

In Yuanjiang area, I saw other truck drivers. None of us had ever seen wild elephants. We were given a simple but alarming task: close off all roads except the bridge.

For five days, we lived in our trucks. Every night, we heard stories about the elephants. The group was led by an adult female, with males guarding them. They lived in Xishuangbanna. Dry weather had made them move north to find a better place to live. Now the rainy season came. It was time for them to return. Elephants are very smart. Before moving, they chose routes with fewer people to protect their babies.

But the Yuanjiang River was a big problem. Heavy rain raised the water level, and the group couldn't cross the river with two of the baby elephants. So the experts decided to help. They planned to block other roads with our trucks, leave corn along the way and guide the elephants to cross only the Yuanjiang Bridge.

At 7:30 p.m. on August 8, my radio rang, "They are coming. Stay in your trucks. No lights! No noise!"

My heart beat fast. Fourteen huge shadows moved like slow, gray hills. The leader stopped at the bridge. She raised her trunk and sniffed the air. For a long minute, she didn't move. We all held our breath.

Then, slowly, she stepped onto the bridge. One by one, the others followed. The babies stayed in the middle, protected by all adults on all sides. The 40 minutes' crossing seemed like a lifetime. When the last elephant disappeared into the forest, everyone cheered.

Now whenever I cross the Yuanjiang Bridge, a picture of the mother elephant stepping on the bridge always appears in my mind. It reminds me that we have one shared home.

A human boy, Billy and his dog, Oscar were walking in a field. It was getting dark.

A spaceship was trying to land on an unknown planet.

In the spaceship, the captain was unhappy. Something was wrong. He sent a message to his own planet and got ready to land.

"Come on!" called the boy. The dog was happy. He was wagging his tail. Billy gave the dog a snack. Suddenly, Billy and Oscar heard an    unusual    noise. Then they saw a light near some trees.

Only the captain was alive in the spaceship. "I am alone, but I will find the strongest creature and control it. Then I will control the planet."

Billy called Oscar again but he didn't come. Oscar ran to the trees.

The captain got out of his spaceship—he felt safer in it, although more and more uncomfortable. The air was fresh on this planet but he didn't take off his spacesuit. He saw huge green leaves everywhere. He climbed to the top of one of them so that he could look down and check everything carefully.

Oscar smelled something. Maybe it was good to eat. He tried to pick up a metal object with his teeth.

The captain saw a huge monster. He jumped onto its leg. He climbed up and went into the monster's head. "Now I can control you,"he said.

Billy found Oscar. He was moving his head strangely. Billy shouted "Come here!" But Oscar didn't move. He just looked at Billy.

The captain was looking at the boy, too. "Kill that creature,"he said.

Oscar jumped at Billy and knocked him to the ground. "Oscar!" cried Billy. He was scared and hit Oscar on his head. Then something small fell out of Oscar's ear and Oscar wagged his tail happily again.

The small metal "thing"was on the ground. The unlucky captain was hit and passed out.

The boy and the dog ran across the field and went home.

Two years ago, I was planning my summer holidays. I soon realized what I wanted to do was to 1 animals. I did some research and chose to volunteer at the local animal center.

Jobs at an animal center aren't always 2 . When training the dogs, the big kisses from them will destroy your shirts! Also, be careful with your 3 shoes when feeding the cats. Some of them show dislike of food by throwing it at you.

Many early animators were good at combining traditional Chinese art with modern storytelling. In 1961, the film Havoc in Heaven  come out. It was produced by the Shanghai Animation Film Studio. The animators spent four years drawing every picture by hand. They moved the characters smoothly to make them look lively on the screen. This film was great success and is still loved by people today. 

Today, Chinese animators continue to explore new ways of storytelling. With the help of modern technology, such as 3D software and artificial intelligence, they are bringing classic characters back to life. Young people enjoy watching these films because the stories are not only  excite but also full of traditional culture. Some experts believe that Chinese animation will become even popular around the world in the near future. 

Did you know that your body can "talk" too? People use body language every day, often without r it. For example, when you are happy, you may smile. When you are sad, you may keep your head down.

Dear diary, 

We had an English Week this week at school. The theme was "Save animals in danger". 

Humans have always been curious about the universe. We want to know what is out there and how it all works. Exploring the universe helps us answer some of the biggest questions we have, like "How did the universe begin?" and "Are we alone?"

One of the main reasons we explore space is to learn more about the universe.  For example, by looking at how stars and galaxies form, scientists can learn about the beginning of the universe. 

This helps us understand how the universe changed over time. 

 These inventions often help us on Earth too. For example, GPS was created for space missions, but now it helps people find their way. Satellites in space also help us predict the weather. 

 Satellites in space help us monitor 检测 the environment, analyze the weather and even discover possible dangers. By understanding space better, we can prepare for and avoid disasters. 

When exploring the universe, we are also searching for a second home. The Earth's population is growing, and humans are running out of resources. 

In short, exploring the universe is important because it helps us learn, invent, protect and prepare for the future. 

In the world of art, Eastern and Western paintings have very different ideas. Chinese ink painting focuses on spirit and imagination. Artists use black ink on rice paper or silk, leaving large areas blank. These "blanks" invite viewers to imagine clouds, water or mist. A famous example is Dwelling in the Fuchun Mountains. It does not show every leaf on a tree, but it makes you feel the beauty of nature. 

In contrast, Western oil painting focuses on realism. Artists like Leonardo da Vinci used light, shadow and colour to create lifelike images. One reason why Western oil painting looks so realistic is that artists study human anatomy 解剖学 and perspective 透视法). They pay great attention to details — every wrinkle on a face, every fold in a dress. For example, Mona Lisa, by Leonardo da Vinci, is famous for her mysterious smile and realistic background. 

Why are they so different? One reason is that Chinese art is influenced by Taoism 道家思想), which values nature and harmony. However, Western art values science and observation, especially since the Renaissance 文艺复兴). 

Today, many young artists try to combine both styles. They use oil paints to create ink-painting-like spaces, or use brush strokes in realistic portraits. This mixing creates new possibilities for art. 

The beautiful leaf-vein embroidery 叶脉绣 comes from Tongren City, Guizhou Province. As one of the most important traditional embroidery styles in China, this art form first appeared during the Song Dynasty 960-1279 and has been passed down for nearly a thousand years. 

Yang Li, a master of this art, has devoted herself to keeping the tradition alive while bringing new life to it. In her creative works, she skillfully puts together styles from the Miao, Tujia, and Dong groups. She uses modern skills to show old beauty. 

Making leaf-vein embroidery is not easy. It requires great patience and a series of careful steps. First, the best leaves must be collected in autumn just before they fall. Then, the leaves need to be selected and dried properly. After that, artists design patterns on the soft leaves. Finally, they embroider the patterns onto the leaves with great care. The most challenging part is embroidering on the soft leaf without breaking it, which takes years of practice to master. 

The best leaves for this art are found in the Fanjing Mountain area. They must be collected just before they fall in autumn, when they are neither too dry nor too wet. After being softened through a special process, the leaves are ready for design. Yang said that only about 20 people in Tongren can fully complete the whole complex process. 

Yang's excellent work has won her several awards. She now runs a factory that employs over 500 local women and people with disabilities, providing them with job opportunities while creating beautiful pieces. Moreover, she has been teaching this traditional art to young people and using the Internet to share her skills, inspiring younger artists like her student Yang Xinyu, to carry on this old art. 

China successfully launched its Shenzhou-23 manned spaceship at 23:08, on May 24, 2026, from the Jiuquan Satellite Launch Center. The crew included Zhu Yangzhu, Zhang Zhiyuan, and Li Jiaying. The three astronauts covered all three types of astronauts in active service in China: flight engineer, astronaut pilot, and payload specialist 载荷专家). 

After entering orbit 轨道), Shenzhou-23 completed a 3. 5-hour radial rendezvous 径向交会 and docking 对接 with the Tiangong space station. This was the first time a Chinese manned spaceship carried out such a fast docking. 

The crew will stay in space for six months. One of the astronauts will carry out a one-year stay test, which will set a new record for the longest single stay in orbit in China's space history. During the mission, they will go on spacewalks, install space debris 碎片 protection devices, and do various scientific experiments. One important experiment is space rice research. China will test the in-orbit rice growth. It is called "from seed to seed to seed", which is based on the 2022 experiment that first grew a full life cycle of rice from seed to seed. 

Li Jiaying, the first astronaut from Hong Kong to fly into space, is also China's first female payload specialist. As a payload specialist, her journey inspires young people from all over China to follow their dreams. Shenzhou-23 marks another great step for China's space program, showing its increasingly advanced space technologies. 

An excerpt from Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea

Professor 教授 Aronnax, his servant 仆人 Conseil, and the Canadian harpooner 捕鲸手 Ned Land were searching for a mysterious sea monster. However, they soon discovered that the "monster" was actually a strange submarine 潜艇 called the Nautilus 鹦鹉螺号). They were taken aboard by Captain Nemo. Here is what happened next. 

The inside of the Nautilus was nothing like what I had expected. Instead of a dark and dirty space, I found myself in a 1 hallway. The walls were covered with beautiful paintings and shells. 

Captain Nemo led us into a large room. My eyes widened in 2 . It was a library! Thousands of books stood neatly on tall shelves. "This is my favourite place, " said Captain Nemo. "Here, I have 3 all the knowledge of the world. "

Conseil, who loved science, could not 4 his excitement. He ran to a shelf and pulled out a book about sea animals. Ned Land, however, was not interested. "Books won't help us get back to land, " he said in a low 5 . 

Captain Nemo 6 him. "You are free to walk around the ship, " he said coldly, "But you will never leave. "

Later, Captain Nemo took us to a huge window. What we saw was amazing. Outside the window, there were colourful fish swimming through the bright lights of the ship. It was like swimming inside a living rainbow. 

"The sea is everything, " Captain Nemo said. "Here, I am truly 7 . On land, people fight and destroy. But under the sea, there is 8 . This is my true home. "

Ned Land looked at the beautiful sea, but his mind was still on 9 . "One day, " he 10 to me, "we will find a way out! "
