When people say "culture", we think of art and history. But one very famous symbol in American culture is a cartoon character—Mickey Mouse. He has become a kind of American culture in many people's eyes. We all know and love the black mouse with two large round ears. Over 80 years ago, he first appeared in the cartoon Steamboat Willie. When this cartoon came out in New York on November 18, 1928, it was the first cartoon with sound and music. The man behind Mickey was Walt Disney. He became very rich and successful. In the 1930s, he made 87 cartoons with Mickey.

Some people might ask how this cartoon character became so popular. One of the main reasons is that Mickey is like a common man, but he always tries to face any danger. In his early films, Mickey was unlucky and had many problems such as losing his house or girlfriend, Minnie. However, he, was always ready to try his best. People went to the cinema to see the "little man" win. Most of them wanted to be like Mickey.

On November 18, 1979, Mickey became the first cartoon character to have a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Today's cartoons are usually not so simple as little Mickey Mouse, but everyone still knows and loves him. Who has a pair of ears more famous than Mickey's?

The word "cartoon" came from Italian. It first referred to the picture before an actual (真实) drawing on the wall. In the mid 19th century, it came into English. Since the 1840s, it has also come to mean any drawing that is humorous, satirical (讽刺的) or showing an opinion. It usually appears in a newspaper or magazine, with or without a short text.

Today cartoons are a part of the daily lives of most people. People of all ages, especially young children enjoy all kinds of cartoons in newspapers and magazines, on television and at the movies. Cartoons not only show their life, but help form it. They have set the style for clothing, food, manner and many other things. They have supplied ideas to plays, movies, television series and so on. Names or words from cartoon series have also come into modern languages.

Many cartoonists (漫画家) draw with special pens. Some use the computer. Surely, computers are especially useful for the making of lively cartoons. This helps us to enjoy more lively cartoons.

The Chinese animation (动画) NeZha: Demon Child Conquers the Sea(also called Ne Zha 2) has broken global records of animation. This shows the growing success and future of China's film industry (产业), as reported by China Daily.

One of the main reasons why Ne Zha 2 is popular is its amazing visuals (视觉效果) and exciting storyline. The film includes 2,427 scenes, with 1,948 needing special effects (特效)—a huge job for any team. As a result, 138 Chinese animation studios (large or small) and over 4,000 professionals (专业人士) worked on the project, Beijing Daily reported. Red Whale Studios from Suzhou played an important role in finishing a quarter of the making of the film—a team of 160 artists worked day and night for 26 months to create exciting scenes.

Yang Yu (also known as Jiaozi) shared that they considered using foreign teams for special effects at first, but the results didn't bring them satisfaction.  ★   A great example is Fantawild Animation from Shenzhen. It created the breathtaking waterfall in the forest fighting scene. Waterfalls are challenging to animate because of their size and always changing movement. To make it look real, the team used best technology with 50 high-powered computers.

In the movie, Ne Zha says, "If there's no way ahead, I will create one." Similarly, the 138 Chinese animation studios joined forces to push Chinese animation, showing the industry's talent and creativity.

My First Comic Strip Creation

Our English class held a comic strip competition with the theme of "Traditional Art in Animation". I chose to create a story about a little girl who learns to make shadow puppets with her grandpa. At first, I didn't know how to 1 the story into simple frames, so I felt a bit stuck. My deskmate, who is good at drawing, gave me some useful 2 .
