Have you ever wondered what the weather will be like tomorrow? Some people say they can tell by watching animals. Scientists say that many animals act differently before the weather changes. Here are some examples. 

When birds fly high in the sky, there is usually no strong wind, and good weather will come. Before a heavy rain, the air becomes heavy and wet. Birds feel this change and fly lower or sit in trees to stay safe. Ants can feel when the air becomes more humid before rain. That is why they build their homes on high ground—— so that water does not wash them away. Frogs need moisture(水分) to keep their skin wet. Before rain, they become more active and call more often. On dry, sunny days, they stay quiet and hide so they don't lose water. Many farmers believe that cows lie down before rain. One possible reason is that cows lie down to keep a dry area on the grass. However, scientists are still not sure if this is always true. 

Next time you go outside, watch these animals. If you see them acting in these ways, rain may be on the way. Nature tells us what the weather will be like—— we just need to learn to watch. 

Longlong ago,there was a poor woodcutter(伐木工).One day,something very important happened to him.

Scene One

Woodcutter:(sadly)Oh no! My axe(斧子) fell into the water! It was a birthday gift from my father. What should I do now?

(Suddenly,an old man came up.)

Old man: Why are you so sad, young man?

Woodcutter: I lost my axe. It fell into the water. 

Old man: Don't worry. Let me help you. 

Scene Two

(The old man shows two axes.)

Oldman:(showing a gold axe) Is this yours?

Woodcutter: No, that's not mine. 

Oldman:(showing a silver axe) Is this yours then?

Woodcutter: No, that's not mine either. My axe is just an iron(铁) axe. 

(The old man smiled and went back into the water.)

Scene Three

Oldman:(showing an iron axe) How about this one?

Woodcutter:(happily) Yes! That's my axe! I know it well. Thank you so much!

Old man: You are an honest man. You did not take the gold axe or the silver axe. Now, I will give you all three axes —— the gold one, the silver one, and your iron axe. 

Woodcutter:(surprised) Really? Thank you, kind old man!

(The woodcutter went home happily with three axes.From that day on,he lived a better life.)
