①Li Siguang was born in a poor family in Huanggang County of Hubei Province on October 26, 1889. He studied hard and entered a high school in Wuchang when he was only 13 years old.
②On the boat to Wuchang for further learning, he noticed that the huge waves created by foreign ships overturned Chinese wooden boats on the Yangtze River. Li was quite angry and decided to build large ships for China and lift the country up. Later, he was sent to study shipbuilding in Japan. However, because the steel that was needed to build ships came from mines (矿), Li travelled halfway across the world and studied mining in the UK. Two years later, he changed his major to studying geology (地质学), believing that finding mines and oil required a deep understanding of the Earth's structure. In the 1920s, Li worked as a professor at the Geology Department of Peking University and got his doctor's degree in Science at the University of Birmingham as well.
③After the founding of the People's Republic of China in 1949, Li offered valuable suggestions for China's geological research, energy development, earthquake prevention and mineral resource exploration.
④Another achievement came in the 1950s. During that time, China was believed for a long time to be an oil-poor country, but Li proved this idea wrong. After years of research, Li believed that oil fields could be discovered in the ocean and on land. Thanks to his research, big oil fields like Daqing, Dagang and Shengli oil fields were discovered in China.
⑤Li Siguang worked on China's geological research all his life. Faced with all kinds of challenges, he always stuck to his ideas. He loved his motherland deeply and kept working hard for it from his youth. His great work helped our country develop. He is a great scientist and an excellent role model for us Chinese.

Forest fires were once a natural and helpful part of the forest's life cycle (循环). Long ago, small fires often happened to clear away dead wood and make space for new life. Americans even used these small fires to create better homes for wildlife. In those days, fires kept the forest healthy and balanced. They stopped the dangerous big fires that we often see in the news today.
During the last century, this natural balance began to change. People started to believe that every fire was an enemy, so they tried to put them all out immediately. This caused our forests to become overgrown with old trees and thick leaves. At the same time, climate change made the land much hotter and drier. Today, when a fire starts, it has so many trees and leaves to burn that the fire becomes unstoppable.
These serious wildfires can destroy every living thing in their path. On hills, the soil becomes weak without tree roots to hold it together. When it rains, the soil rushes into rivers and pollutes the water. Many animals also lose their homes after a big wildfire. Some forests can grow back naturally, but the badly damaged (破坏) places stay empty with no plants. In these places, nature needs a helping hand to start growing again.
Planting trees in a planned way is the best way to bring these damaged areas back to life. Since we cannot replant every acre (英亩), experts choose the best places for trees to grow. These young trees will grow up and drop seeds, helping the forest spread and rebuild itself over time. In this way, we protect the soil and provide animals with a home again. Every tree we plant today is an important step toward a greener future.
(1)、Why were the small fires helpful to forests in the past?A、Because they provided farming area for people. . B、Because they stopped big fires from happening. . C、Because they drove away dangerous wild animals. . D、Because they provided Americans with better homes.(2)、What is the second paragraph mainly about?A、Unstoppable wildfires bring terrible harm to nature. . B、Too many old trees and thick leaves are bad for forests. . C、People work to stop climate change and protect forests. . ③ It stops soil from being washed away. ④ It helps the forests look more beautiful.
A、①②③ B、①②④ C、②③④ D、①③④(4)、What's the best title of the passage?A、More Trees, a Greener Future. B、A Cry for Help from Nature. C、Forest fires: Helpful or Harmful?. D、A Warning from our Burning Forests -

The site has a long history of about 5,300 years. People lived here for more than 3,000 years, from the late Stone Age to the Han Dynasty. The ocean is far more than just blue water. If you dive down from the surface, you will pass through five different layers (层). Each layer has its own light, temperature, and special sea creatures (生物).
The first layer is the Sunlit Layer, from the surface down to about 200 metres. Plenty of sunlight can reach this area. Because it is warm and bright, it is home to most well-known sea animals, like seals, whales, and sea turtles.
Deeper down is the Twilight Layer, from 200 to 1,000 metres. There is much less sunlight here, and it gets colder slowly. Animals like lantern fish and sharks are common visitors. They are used to living under the weak light.
If we keep going deeper, we will enter the Midnight Layer, 1,000 to 4,000 metres deep. No sunlight can reach this place at all. It is totally dark and freezing cold. To survive, some special fish can make light by themselves. Some even have special stomachs so that they can eat fish much bigger than themselves.
Below that is the Abyss, from 4,000 to 6,000 metres. The water pressure here is extremely (极度) strong. Only a few tough creatures like sea pigs can live in such terrible conditions.
The deepest part is the Hadal Layer, deeper than 6,000 metres. It is a world of complete darkness and huge water pressure. Giant tube worms are one of the few lucky creatures that can survive in this extreme environment.

At noon on 24 May 1960, four Chinese climbers stood on the "roof of the world". They were near the top of a thirty-metre-high wall of rock. It was called the Second Step. The top of Mount Qomolangma seemed right within reach. But no one had ever climbed the last few metres of the Second Step before.
Liu Lianman went first. He tried four times. Each time, he fell back into the snow. The thin air took his strength away. "I'm not strong enough to try again," he thought. So he chose to be a "human ladder" for his teammates! He lowered his body and let Qu Yinhua stand on his shoulders. Bit by bit, Liu stood up and helped Qu climb to the top. Earth Day is often celebrated on 22nd April around the world to ask people to focus on environment problems and encourage them to take action to protect the earth. Here are three real-life stories of people who are doing their part to make the earth a better place.
Zheng Xiyu is trying to reduce her carbon(碳)footprint. Every morning, she takes a bus to her office and it takes her about 40 minutes. But Zheng has been thinking of changing this. She wants to try a different way of transport— cycling. "Riding a bike to work," the lady said,"takes the same amount of time as taking a bus. However, it's better for the environment and my health. "
Professor Li Lin is also leading a low-carbon lifestyle. Her office uses energy-saving lights. These lights go off themselves when they are not needed. This has saved a large amount of electricity. Also, her office prints paper on both sides as another way to save energy. Professor Li thinks small actions like these are important for protecting the environment. "It has saved one ton of paper, which means it has reduced about two and a half tons of CO2 emissions(排放)," Professor Li said.
Lin Hui always chooses products with a longer life when he shops. That's because it helps to reduce waste. Two years ago, Lin and his friends set up an environment website, where he wanted to give some advice on saving energy and protecting the environment.
These everyday heroes show us that even small actions can make a big difference in protecting our planet. On Earth Day, let's learn from them and start doing our part.
(1)、When is Earth Day?(2)、How long does it take Zheng Xiyu to ride a bike to her office?(3)、What does Li Lin's office do to save energy?(4)、Why does Lin Hui always choose products with a longer life?(5)、What advice did Li Hui want to give on his environment website? -

Many animals need to move from one place to another. Often they do this as part of natural migration(迁徙). Sometimes they need to move to a new area when gets low or the situations get worse.
Humans take over large areas of the Earth. Roads and highways cut up many of the natural areas into many small parts, making it for animals to move. One way of helping these animals is to build bridges and tunnels to help them dangerous roads.
In 2018, Utah a wildlife bridge over the busy highway I-80. Usually, it takes animals a long time to find and begin using wildlife bridges, scientists thought the bridge wouldn't get much traffic for several years. , a video shows many different kinds of animals are already using the bridge.
Hainan gibbons(长臂猿)are danger because the number is getting much smaller. Scientists are trying their best to them. In 2015 a rope bridge appeared there to help Hainan gibbons cross the forest .
These changes don't just help animals. save human lives too. In the US alone, there are many road accidents every year caused by cars and trucks hitting wild animals. Now people in other countries are looking to try these ideas too.
