Chinese New Year marks the beginning of a new year in the traditional Chinese calendar.This calendar follows both the moon and the sun.

In China，Chinese New Year is a time for family.People visit relatives，receive red envelopes and buy new clothes.Many Asian countries also celebrate this festival，but they have different customs.

Vietnamese people also eat special food during Tet.Banh chung is rice with pork inside.It is wrapped in leaves.Another traditional food is Xoi gac.It is red sticky rice.The red color means good luck.

Have you heard of or read The Tale of Peter Rabbit？It is a simple story of a naughty young bunny，written and illustrated（画插图） by Beatrix Potter.Let us learn about the life of one of the most beloved children's authors.

Beatrix Potter was born into a rich family in London in 1866.Her family often took long holiday trips to the countryside，where Potter and her younger brother could roam（漫步） the fields freely.They also kept many small animals as pets—rabbits，frogs，mice，and even bats!

Potter began drawing from a young age.She would spend hours watching her pets closely and drawing them.Although Potter never went to school，she enjoyed learning natural sciences.She was especially curious about fungi（真菌），and made very detailed scientific illustrations.Potter also loved reading fairy tales such as those of Andersen.

Whenever Potter went on holiday，she sent letters to her friends with her quick sketches.One day，she made up the story of Peter Rabbit to her friend's five-year-old son.Potter liked the story and decided to turn it into a book.

However，one by one，publishers（出版方） turned her down.Instead of giving up，Potter self-published 250 copies of the book to friends and family.The book was so well-loved that one of the publishers reconsidered their decision and printed The Tale of Peter Rabbit in 1902.It was an immediate bestseller.After then，Potter continued to write and draw，and many more stories about animal characters followed.

Not many people can honestly say they like taking exams，as we usually get nervous before and during an exam.When the results are about to be announced，we fear not passing.But exams are important because they test how much we know and what we have learnt.

Both students and adults have to take exams.Many adults with full-time jobs study for professional qualifications（资格）.They may attend classes after work or study by themselves on weekends.Without exams，it would be difficult to tell a person's academic（学术的） ability.

Revision（复习） can be stressful for those preparing for an exam.It can be hard to motivate（激励） yourself when you can hang out with friends having fun instead of sitting at a desk revising.Therefore，it is important to keep a balance between revising and taking short breaks.Set a study plan so you can study step by step instead of overloading your brain a day or two before the exam.

A common phrase of encouragement for those about to sit an exam is"You can only do your best'.And this is true as no one wants to fail an exam.However，exams do not determine your worth，and the results of one test are only part of your learning journey，where you can improve next time.

What is a typhoon？

A typhoon starts over the sea when warm and cool air meet.When the storm becomes so strong that winds are over 62 km/h，we have a typhoon.

What do all the signals（信号） mean？

In Hong Kong，people use typhoon signals to tell how dangerous a storm may be. T1 means a typhoon is still far away，but people should start to get ready.T3 means the storm is coming closer.Boats should be tied up，and drains（排水口） should be kept clear.

When the weather gets worse，T8 may be given.  People should go home early and stay in safe places.

What should I do to be safe？

 High waves and strong winds can be very dangerous.You should also keep your home safe.Make sure windows and doors are closed.Move flowerpots and other things away from windows.

Some people like to put tape on windows before a typhoon.But this is not a good idea.Tape cannot stop glass from breaking.
