Mom often tells me about her childhood experiences. One of them is about the school picnic. At that time, the biggest day for them was the School Picnic Day. It was usually held on the last day of school in June. On that day, kids played simple games. 没有人关心谁赢或是谁输。
     Soon, before anyone knew it, it was lunchtime. Parents had packed picnic baskets for kids and filled them with nice food. There was a very poor family. That year, they had no picnic lunch. When my mom noticed this, she wanted to help, but she knew they would be embarrassed if she gave them something from her own lunch basket.
      Just then, the teacher said there was going to be one final race before lunch. It would be the sack race（套袋赛跑）. The winners would receive a special lunch basket. My mom asked Mary, the oldest sister of the family if she could be her partner and Mary agreed. 我妈妈不擅长比赛。 But as she put her legs into that sack with Mary, she told herself, "I can do it. We have to win!"
      As soon as the teacher said Go", my mom jumped in time with Mary. They pulled out in front soon and won the race.
      Later that day, Mary came to thank my mom. She said that her brothers and sisters really enjoyed their lunch. Then, she handed my mom a sandwich. The two girls sat together in the warm sun, eating the last two sandwiches.

How do you feel when you are fooled by others? No doubt, feel bad. There is nothing worse than falling for a joke and being a fool except one day. Yes, that's April Fool's Day. Nobody will be angry to be an "April Fool". 

The headmaster at my school decided to play an April Fool's joke on the students when I was in junior high school. On March 31st, she said that our school would hold a "Dress to Impress Day".  Girls were told to wear formal dresses, while a suit and tie for each boy would be the best. The teachers, we were told, would do the same.

On April Fool's Day, many of us students came to school dressed in our best clothes.  In the morning, all of us got together on the playground, waiting for the headmaster. She would speak to the students.  Instead, she wore jeans, running shoes and a T-shirt. The other teachers also got dressed casually（着装休闲地） like her.

"April Fools!" she said with a big smile on her face. "We just want to remind you that teachers have a sense of humor, too!" 

Surely, all the teachers weren't April Fools.

There is a river in Indonesia where you can hardly see the water because of pollution. It's the Citarum River. It's a sad thing for millions of people who depend on this river for a living.

The river became dirty many years ago and now it has got worse over time because of the waste from houses and factories. In fact, people have poured about 6 million tons of human waste into this river. The government has done many things to clear up the Citarum River, but it seems fruitless.

Yusuf Supriyadi, a 54-year-old rice farmer, lives next to the "world's dirtiest river". He depends on it to irrigate（灌溉） a small rice land in West Java that supports his family of six.

The farmer's rice yield（产量） is now down by two-thirds in the rainy season and more waste goes into the river. But he has no choice. "Pollution makes me grow less and less rice. If I keep going, I'll lose money, but if I don't, I'll have no other job," Supriyadi said.

Like Supriyadi, around 80% of West Java's population are in danger because of the polluted river. They depend on it for irrigation, washing and even drinking. Now the government has decided to take action again.

"We are not playing around this time," said Djoko Hartoyo, a spokesman. "We hope to make the Citarum River's water drinkable by 2025, just like it was 50 or 60 years ago." It sounds impossible, but I do believe that doing something is always better than doing nothing.

My family members have a close relationship because our family has some rules.

Family dinner

My mother makes it a rule that everyone must sit down at the table and have dinner together. I think this is one of the easiest and the most important rules to have as a family. Eating meals together creates a sense of belonging. What's more, keeping this habit will increase everyone's enjoyment.

Although it was hard for us to keep this routine（惯例） at first, it has turned out to be a good habit. After dinner we usually have our playtime, and then 7：00 p.m. is the bath time; 7：30 p.m. is time to have some milk; at 7：50 p.m. my mother reads a story, and then lights go out at 8：00 p.m. This routine makes me wake up early in the morning and helps me feel good at school.

Cleaning up

Cleaning up is a family matter. After dinner we help our parents clean up the kitchen and clear everything off the table. After this, we are asked to put away the toys that we were playing with in the daytime. Then we won't step on hard or wooden toys when we get up next morning.

It was a Sunday morning, and I was in a terrible mood. 1 friend（s) of mine went to the movies the night before and neither of them invited me. I was in my room 2  how to make them sorry when my father came in. "Want to go for a ride today, Beck? It's a beautiful day."

"No! Leave me alone!" Those were the 3 words I said to him that morning.
