Every year on June 21st, World Music Day is celebrated in over 120 countries, including its birthplace France, to honor both amateur(业余的) and professional musicians. Citizens of a city or country are permitted and encouraged to perform music outside in their neighborhoods, squares, and parks on World Music Day. Free concerts are also held, where musicians perform for the joy of playing music rather than for money.
In the 1970s, American musician Joel Cohen, who was then working for a French radio station, came up with the idea of having musicians perform on the evening of June 21 to celebrate the start of summer. It was finally accepted by France's Ministry of Culture in 1982. The day started in France and has extended to countries such as Belgium, the United Kingdom and others. It's the ideal time to learn a new instrument or listen to songs they wouldn't ordinarily listen to. Every type of musician can celebrate World Music Day with friends, family, and even strangers, whether they are young, elderly, new, or professional. The purpose is to promote (促进) the cultural communication by music.
It makes no difference how good you are at making music; everyone can do it. This day can be used by even the most tone-deaf(音盲的) people to sing their hearts out and appreciate the beauty and power of music. Music is not only a great way to express yourself, but it may also be good for your health.

When I was a teenager, my parents were never interested in the music I liked. They said to me, "David, the music you like listening to is a lot of noise." At the same time, my father regularly described the pieces of music that he liked as beautiful ones. As it turns out, they are not alone. As I grow older, I've often heard people of my age say, "Today's music is terrible." Many older people just don't like the new music. But why?
The mere exposure effect (纯粹曝光效应) may explain this. It means the more familiar we are with something, the more likely we are to prefer it. When we are in our early teens, we usually spend a lot of time listening to popular music and discussing it with our friends. The new songs and singers during this time become familiar to us. After we turn 30 years old, we are busy working and raising our families. We don't have so much time to look for new music. Instead, we prefer to listen to our old favorites. According to studies, by the time we turn 33 years old, most of us will completely stop exploring the new music.
But I think there is another reason for older people's dislike of the new music. Most of the new music, after all, is not written for them. It is made for young people. Some types of music began as a rebellion (反抗) by young people against out- of- date ways of doing things. These types include punk, rap, hip- hop, heavy metal and more. They naturally interest younger listeners.
Do your parents dislike the music you like, too? Now, after reading this article, you know there is nothing wrong with that.
(1)、Why do many older people dislike the new music?①Because the new music sounds beautiful.
②Because they are afraid of noise.
③Because most of the new music is not written for them.
④Because they are not familiar with the new music.
A、①② B、②③ C、③④ D、②④(2)、Which of the following charts correctly shows "the mere exposure effect"?A、
B、
C、
D、
(3)、What does the underlined word "that" refer to in the last paragraph?A、The fact that younger people's dislike of the new music. B、The meaning of the mere exposure effect. C、The new music's attention to younger listeners. D、The fact that your parents dislike the music you like.(4)、Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?A、All of the new music is written for young people. B、Most people no longer explore the new music at the age of 33. C、Teenagers usually spend a lot of time watching popular TV series. D、Today's music is terrible in all people's eyes.(5)、Which can be the best title for the passage?A、Why don't your parents like the music you like? B、What's the real meaning of the mere exposure effect? C、When do most young people stop exploring the new music? D、How do young people like different types of new music? -

One British school found that allowing children to listen to music or even to have the TV on while studying is helping improve grades. The Double Ninth Festival is a special day for the old in China. It started long ago. The festival is on lunar September 9th. It is held to show love and respect to the old.
Respecting the old is a tradition in China. That's because Chinese know that the old have more knowledge and experience. There are many ways for Chinese people to show their respect. When an old person enters a room, everyone stands up. People are introduced from the oldest to the youngest. When we give a book to an old person, we should use our both hands. The young always offer their seats to the old on a crowded subway or bus.
In western countries, however, the old seldom think they are old. They are called "seniors" instead of "the old". They'd rather do everything themselves. Even after retirement(退休), they take up hobbies, part-time jobs and new activities to keep their bodies working well. And of course among westerners, seniors are respected, too. Usually, seniors don't have to buy tickets for trains or buses. They get discounts(折扣) in stores and restaurants.
But western seniors don't often live with their children. For holidays, the young usually meet at their grandparents' or parents' home. They give seniors a great smile and a warm hug to show their respect. All of them feel warm and happy.
(1)、When is the Double Ninth Festival?(2)、Why is respecting the old a tradition in China?(3)、How many ways for Chinese people to show their respect are mentioned in the passage?(4)、Where can western seniors get discounts?(5)、How do the young in western countries show their respect to seniors? -

Whether it's putting your elbows on the table or talking with a mouth full of food, everyone has to watch their manners at some time. Manners have developed over thousands of years and are always changing. Around 100 years ago, children weren't allowed to speak unless parents spoke to them first. Now young people can make their voices heard in many places.
Manners also mean different things in different countries. Eating food loudly is considered rude in some countries, but in others it's a sign that people are enjoying their meal. What do you think? Are manners important?
Many old people think so. They say kind words and actions are good to everyone. When someone has good manners, it shows they care about other people's feelings and want them to be comfortable. In other words, well-mannered people make the world a happier place. Manners also help keep everyone healthy, which is why people should cover their mouths when they cough and keep dirty feet off seats.
____ They hold the idea that manners make people act in a way that doesn't mean how they really feel. If someone says "thank you" or "sorry" when they don't mean it, they're not being polite. In Europe, manners were a way of showing how rich a person was, but does it really matter what type of knife people use to eat fish? As long as people are kind to others, they should be allowed to act how they like.

B、However, some manners are not accepted by young men. C、Besides, people should pay more attention to different customs. D、What's more, manners are not only important, but also necessary.(4)、What can we learn from this passage?A、Saying sorry certainly means being polite. B、Eating fish with a knife shows you're rich. C、Coughing with the mouth covered is strange. One morning, when Jack was having breakfast, he told his family he would take them to see a film in the evening. That made them very happy. When he opened the door of his car, a stray dog (流浪狗)sleeping under his car suddenly came out and bit him! He was so angry that he threw a rock at the dog, but he missed. So he became even angrier.
After reaching his office, Jack called a meeting of his managers. During the meeting, he took out his anger on his managers. And they couldn't reach any agreements about the business. His managers were upset about Jack's anger, and took out their own anger on the people working under them. Finally, Jack's anger spread through his whole company.
Jack was still angry after returning home. His wife opened the door and asked him, "Why are you so late, my dear?" "I didn't go to the office to play soccer. I went to work. So don't ask me such stupid questions!" Jack shouted.
His wife was angry because she was shouted at for no reason. She turned her anger on their son, Steven, "This is all you do. You have no interest in studying! Turn off the TV now!" She yelled(大喊).
Tears came to Steven's eyes. In fact, he finished his homework earlier than usual so that he would have time to enjoy the film with his parents. He was just watching TV and waiting for his father to take him to the cinema.
Sometimes, when we are angry about something, we might take out our anger on others. This is not fair to others—we should learn to control our bad emotions.
(1)、Was Jack a manager or a boss?(2)、At breakfast, what did Jack offer to do in the evening?(3)、How was the whole company influenced by Jack at last?(4)、Why was Jack's wife angry with him?(5)、What did Steven do in order to enjoy the film? -

In our life, we all try to get better every day. We all set dreams in our life.
To win the life race, we work hard and with the time we finally achieve it. It is all right and it should be in that way.
But our happiness lasts for a very short time when we start comparing the things with others. If today you are happy just because you have more than others, then be ready to lose your happiness because it will start disappearing when you see someone else having more than you. But it will only take a few days to end your feeling of joy if it is based on (根据) what others have.
Actually you can never compare yourself with others. You may know yourself completely. You may know what you have and how you got that. But you can never know what someone else has and how he got that. You can compare one factor (要素) but you never even know other factors. Respect every one for what he is and love yourself for whatever you are.
If you still want to compare, compare with yourself. Keep yourself growing without comparing them to anyone else. It is good to get inspired from someone you think is better than you. But do not get caught by comparison.
Always remember that you are the only you. Just like everyone else.
A. We become happy and celebrate it.
B. We all want to get ahead among others.
C. What you see is not always the whole thing.
D. Think what you've done better today than you did yesterday.

Here is story: man sees butterfly(蝴蝶). The butterfly tries to get out of its chrysalis(蛹). Feeling sorry for it, the man decides to help. He cuts the chrysalis and the butterfly comes out easily. Surprisingly enough, the butterfly is unable to fly. If the butterfly doesn't struggle(挣扎;奋斗) to leave the chrysalis, it can't fly! The struggle develops the energy in the butterfly which makes it fly. Similarly the challenges of life bring out the best in young people and make them fly.
When people are young, meeting and overcoming challenges will make them strong and ready to face life. When we look at successful people, we see that the most successful of them are people who have had to struggle. One famous businessman, who now owns many big supermarkets used to carry clothes on his back and sell them from door to door when he was young. Another successful man is Dennis. His father died when he was only twenty. His father's death forced him to mature fast. He had to bring up a family of nine people. He took up the challenges and overcame them. Today his brothers and sisters are leading successful lives.
Sometimes challenges do not appear to us because we keep away from them. So some parents and teachers actively encourage young people to face challenges. They might organize some activities for young people which provide them with challenges, like rock-climbing, camping, volunteer work and so on. However, just passing exams will not prepare a person for life. We must meet and overcome challenges. The young people of today will become the leaders of tomorrow. For countries to continue to become successful. it is important that the young people learn to meet challenges and overcome them.

One day, while I was waiting for my father. I saw a little boy, around two years old, running freely on the grass as his mother watched from a short distance (距离). The boy had a big smile on his face. The boy would fall on the grass, get up, without looking back at his mother, run as fast as he could, again, still with a smile on his face, as if nothing had happened.
At that moment, I thought to myself, "Why aren't most adults this way? " Most adults, when they fall down, make a big deal out of it and don't even make a second try. They will be so embarrassed that they will not try again if someone sees them fall. Or, because they fall, they will find a good excuse for themselves that they are not fit for it. They will end up being too afraid to try again for fear of failure.
However, as to kids, when they fall down, they don't consider their falling down as a failure, instead, they look on it as a learning experience. They try again and again until they succeed. The answer must be that they have not connected "falling down" with the word "failure". What's more, they probably think to themselves that it is quite okay to fall down and that it is not wrong to do so. In other words, they allow themselves to make mistakes.
