ThePrice of a Miracle (奇迹)

Tess was an eight-year-old girl when she heard her Mom and Dad talking about her little brother, Andrew. All she knew was that he was very sick and they had little money. Only a very expensive surgery (手术) could save him. She heard Dad say to her tearful (哭泣的) Mom, "Only a miracle can save him now."

Tess went to her bedroom and took out a piggybank. She poured all the coins out on the floor and counted carefully — one dollar and eleven cents in all. And then she slipped out (溜出去) the back door and went to the drugstore (药店).

"And what do you want?" the pharmacist (药剂师) asked her. Without waiting for a reply to his question, he added, "I'm talking to my brother from Chicago, where he works as a doctor."

"Well, I want to talk to you about my brother," Tess answered. "He is really, really sick… and I want to buy a miracle. My dad says only a miracle can save him now."

"We don't sell miracles here, little girl. I'm sorry but I can't help you," the pharmacist said softly.

"Listen, I have the money to pay for it. If it isn't enough, I will get the rest. Just tell me how much it costs."

"What kind of miracle does your brother need?" asked the pharmacist's brother.

"I don't know," Tess replied with tears in her eyes. "I just know he is really sick and needs an operation. But my Dad can't pay for it. I want to use my money — one dollar and eleven cents to buy a miracle."

"Well, what a coincidence (巧合)!" smiled the man, "one dollar and eleven cents — the exact price of a miracle for your little brother."

He took the money and said, "Take me where you live. I want to see your brother. Let's see if I have the kind of miracle you need."

Last Friday, our school music teacher, Mrs. Green, gave us a special task. She asked us to join the school chorus and prepare for an upcoming charity concert. At first, I felt very1 . I was shy and worried that my voice wasn't good enough to sing in front of so many people.

The Green Hope Project

Last month, our class organized a meaningful trip to a local nature reserve. Before we set out, our teacher gave us some advice. She said, "It is necessary  (follow) the rules strictly." We were told that we must not harm any wild animals because many of them are endangered.

ZhangXiangwen's Former Residence (故居)

Zhang Xiangwen (1867-1933) was a great Chinese geographer and educator. He was born in Siyang County, JiangsuProvince. People call him the"father of modern geography inChina" because of his many important contributions.

Zhang wrote China's first geography textbook for primary schools in 1901. He also wrote the first geography textbook for middle schools. In 1908, he published Diwenxue (Physical Geography), which was China's first work on physical geography. In 1909, he founded the Chinese Geographical Society, the first geography academic group in China. In 1910, he started the first geography journal in China,named Dizue Zazhi(Geographical Journal).

Zhang is most famous for proposing(提议; 建议) the Qinling Mountains-Huaihe RiverLine. He was the first scientist to suggest that this line is the natural dividing line between northern and southern China. This idea is still widely used today.

Today, people can visit Zhang's former residence in the Nanyuan Scenic Area in SiyangCounty. The area covers 47.8 mu(about 7.9 acres). It includes Zhang's old house, the ChineseGeography Museum, and other cultural spots. The former residence has four exhibition halls, a private school, and a garden. Visitors can see old photos, books, and rooms where Zhang once lived and worked.

The design of Nanyuan follows Zhang's"Five Realms"("五界") theory. The five realms are: the Realm of Stars, the Realm of Land, the Realm of Air, the Realm of Water, and theRealm of Living Things. Nanyuan is not only a beautiful park but also a national patriotic education base and a science education center. Many students come here every year to learn about Zhang's life and his scientific spirit.

Nowadays, more and more people pay attention to health. According to the NationalHealth Commission (NHC), by 2030, a lot of adults in China could be overweight, and some (child) could also face the same problem. Overweight can (easy) lead to many kinds of diseases, such as high blood pressure, diabetes(糖尿病) and heart problems.

Lei Haichao, head of the NHC, talked about a three-year program across country to help people manage(they) weight and to encourage a healthier lifestyle. This program focuses on teaching people about eating well, doing exercise, and keeping a healthy weight.

For example, Shanghai plans  (develop)a"Weight Management Health Guide" for its 25 million residents(居民). A team of experts in food, health, and sports will work together to finish the guide. It will offer much advice diet management, exercise plans, good sleep habits and (medicine) help. What's more, it will(use) to improve weight management with AI technology.

Some experts suggest  (eat) healthy foods. Eating until 70% full is good for long-term weight control. Keeping a regular sleep habit is also important  staying up late can lead to unhealthy eating habits and weight gain.
