Though the Chinese animation industry (动画产业) started later than that in many Western countries, it is speeding up to produce excellent animation works with a clear Chinese style. Recent movies Yao-Chinese Folktales and Deep Sea are two examples. Shown in January, they've had a large number of viewers.

As for the secrets to their success, we can see that they both share the common features of great imagination and creative stories. For example, Yao-Chinese Folktales is inspired by Chinese folktales but changed to show the problems and lessons people experience in modern society. The film Deep Sea builds a new underwater world and places the fantasy story into a modern setting.

Another feature is the beautiful Chinese art styles. In these two works, viewers can see many Chinese traditional art styles, from paper-cutting to shadow puppetry, as well as an interesting mixture of sketching and Chinese ink wash painting.

Zhang Gedong, a professor of animation and digital arts at the Communication University of China, also welcomed the trend in the animation industry. "This is a very good method for us to build cultural self-confidence," he told CGTN.

I'm Jenny. I'm a movie lover and I want my kids to like movies, too. The first time I took my daughter, May, to the movie theater, she was 6 and the movie was Bambi. I chose it because I thought a cartoon movie would be good for her.

Everything was going just fine and Bambi was so lovely. However, when man killed Bambi's, my daughter became very sad and asked to go home. So we left in the middle of the movie. Later I chose movies more carefully and my daughter watched many great ones. Luckily, she likes movies as much as I do now.

My worry is: Are cartoons really safe for kids?

Once I sat on the sofa to watch a cartoon with my 8-year-old son, Nick. I got dumbfounded when I saw a cartoon character was bleeding (流血) in front of us. The cartoon was like an action movie for adults (成人)!

The next time you take a kid to the movie theater, be careful. Maybe a cartoon isn't the best. You should take the time to watch it first (It's a habit with me.). Or the kid may get messages he or she isn't ready to get yet.

During the Ming Dynasty, there was a skilled man named Wang Shuyuan. He was good at turning a(n) 1 piece of wood into different things, like buildings, animals, trees, and even people.

Career Dreams and Growing Pains

Growing up is a journey with both pains and gains. I have a clear career dream and also meet some growing pains in my life.

Everyone has a  career. My dream is to be a reporter. I want to travel around the world and share true stories with people. However, I face growing . I'm not good at writing and speaking, which are key skills for a reporter.

But I don't want to give up. I'm  enough to face these pains. I  to practice writing every day and join the school speech club to  my speaking skills. My teachers and classmates  me a lot—they read my articles and give me advice.

With their help and my  efforts, I've made great progress. I've won a school writing competition and become more . These  make me believe that I can  my dream one day. Growing up is not easy, but chasing dreams makes it meaningful.

Parents are the first teachers in your life. They always love and help you. But sometimes you may have a fight with them. 

Enjoy life together. You should spend more time with your parents.  Go shopping together, read together or go to the movies together.

Show more care.  For example, you can make a meal for them. I completely believe it can make your parents happy.

 When you are in trouble or meet some upset things, you can ask your parents for help, they will tell you what to do with your problems.

Try your best. Your parents never ask you always to be the best, but they'll be happy to see you working hard. 

Make sure you keep this advice in your mind, and you'll get on with your parents. You need to remember: they love you much more than you love them.

When I was very young, my dad had the first telephone in our neighborhood. I still remember the shiny receiver in the box. I was too little to reach the telephone, but I knew that a wonderful person lived inside it—her name was Information Please. She could give anybody's number and the right time.

One day, my mom was out. I hit my finger and it hurt a lot. No one was home to help me. So I thought of the telephone! I called her. A soft voice said, "Information Please." I cried and told her about my finger. She told me to put ice on it. After that, I called her for everything—help with geography, or homework, and even what my small pet ate. 

When my pet bird died, I called her and cried, "Why do birds sing so well and make everyone happy, but died at last?" She said softly, "Paul, remember there are other worlds to sing in." Those words made me feel better. At age 9, we moved to Boston. I missed the old phone and never forgot her.

Years later, my plane stopped in Seattle. I called the operator (接线员) for help. To my surprise, Sally answered! I asked her to spell "fix", just like when I was little. She laughed and said my calls made her happy all day— she had no kids, so she hoped to talk with me.

Three months later, I called again. A different voice said Sally had died of illness. She left a message: "Tell Paul there are other worlds to sing in. He'll understand."

Work is a necessary and important part of our daily lives. It is not just a way to make money; it offers much more than financial (财务的) benefits. Work provides us with a strong sense of purpose and direction. It helps us feel that we are useful and valued members of society.

When we work, we learn new skills and improve our abilities. We also get to meet different people, build relationships, and make good friends. This social act makes our lives richer and more interesting. Moreover, work can bring us great happiness and deep satisfaction. For example, when we successfully finish a difficult task or project, we feel a strong sense of pride and personal achievement.

    ▲     Doctors work hard to help sick people recover from illness. Teachers work to help students learn and grow. Cleaners work to keep our cities clean and beautiful. Every job, whether (是否) it seems big or small, can make our world a better place.

In short, work helps us grow. It gives us chances to learn, improve, and help others. And of course, it provides the money we need to support our families and meet our basic needs. So, work is meaningful in many different ways.

As a teenager, I have experienced many growing pains. I often argue with my mother about my after-school activities. She wants me to study all the time, but I want to play basketball with my friends. I feel upset and don't even want to talk with her.

One day, my teacher talked with me and told me that my mother's strictness is full of love. She just hopes I can study hard and have a good future. Then I tried to communicate with my mother patiently. I told her I would finish my homework first, then play basketball for an hour. To my surprise, she agreed with me.

Now I know that communication is the key to solving growing pains. As we grow up, we should learn to understand our parents and talk with them more. In this way, we can turn growing pains into growing gains.

When Juan Sala was young, he lived near a beach. During his summer holidays, he would spend all day swimming in the sea. In the evenings, he loved watching programmes about underwater adventures. He even dreamed of filming and studying fish under the sea. But he didn't start to do that until he was in his twenties. Juan described a normal workday on his 45-metre boat:

I got up before everyone else today. I had breakfast and jumped into the sea as soon as I could. I usually work underwater three or four times a day. I filmed anything that looked interesting. In the afternoon, I made notes about my work on my computer. After dinner, I was so tired that I went to bed. My friends sometimes invite me to go to a party, but I'm always asleep by the time the fun starts.

▲  I have so much fun every day! My friends often say that they would like to have a job like mine. They need to pay a lot of money to spend their holidays in interesting places, but they can't see many unusual fish.

Juan is planning to do some underwater filming in the Queensmen Islands soon. "I've never visited those islands," he said. "I'd like to study the plants and fish there."
