How to Save Water

Water is important to people, but water is also limited. So we should develop a good habit of using and saving water.

Trees are important to us. They do a lot for our environment(环境) and animals.

Trees help to keep the air clean and make us  (health). They take in dirty air and give clean air to us. Go for  walk in the park in the morning, and you can feel how nice it is to be with many trees and clean air.

Trees give people many kinds of beautiful flowers and delicious fruits  apples and oranges. Trees also give different animals and birds homes. They are even  (real) good places for animals to save food for winter months.

Trees are very  (help). People use them in many ways. They cut down(砍倒) trees to make paper, desks and chairs. They also use trees to build houses and shops. But  (use) is hurting(伤害). Cutting down too many trees is bad for nature.  of this, many animals lose(失去) their homes.

It is time for us  (stop) hurting our great friends—trees. Don't use so much paper and take part in tree-planting  (activity). All of us should do something for  (we) dear friends!

You may not know Amy Hayes, but she is a great woman. She lives in a house in the UK that she makes out of rubbish by herself(她自己). The windows and doors come from old buildings around her city. The top of the house is an old boat. And the gate(门) is made of old glass bottles.

Amy isn't the only one who is good at reusing. Jessica Wong from Hong Kong, China uses old clothes that people don't wear any more to make bags. She does this for a few years now. She opens a small shop where she sells her bags and she also sells them online. Her bags are cute and useful. "I plan to write a book about new ways to use old clothes," she says. "I hope people can read my book and enjoy it!"

Wang Tao has a shop in Shanghai. He uses iron(铁) and other things from old cars to make beautiful art pieces. Some are large pieces that look like animals or humans, and some are small pieces you can put at home. Wang Tao hopes to open a "metal art" theme park to show people the importance of environmental protection(环境保护).

I'm Wang Jun. Every morning, I run by the sea near my home.  He walks on the beach(沙滩) and looks for something. This morning, I stop running and walk to him.

"Hello! I see you here every morning. " I ask.

"I'm taking away the stones(石头) on the turtles(海龟). There are always some small turtles under the stones. The stones can stop them from going to the sea, so I come to help these turtles every morning," he says.

"It's really kind of you. After all, you can't help all the small turtles under the stones," I say.

He says, "When I see them get out of trouble, I feel so happy. It's my way of making a difference." Then he takes away a stone next to him.  He looks at the turtle and goes on, "At least(至少) it's helpful to this turtle."

 We can't change(改变) the world at once. But we can help one person, one animal, or one thing at a time. If everyone can do something good, it will make a big difference.

⑥Try to drink some water once every hour. You need your water to last as long  as possible. If you eat, you will get thirsty(口渴的) and drink all of your water very fast. Just eat a little food, only to keep you from feeling very hungry. You can live for three weeks without food, but you can only live for a few days without water.

When Hu Wei is showering, he suddenly hears a voice(声音). "Come on! You are there for three minutes!"

The boy is puzzled(困惑的). "Who's over there?" he looks up at the showerhead and asks. "It's me. The Four-Minute Shower," he answers.

"The four-minute shower? Who showers for only four minutes?"

"Well, you should," Mr. Shower says. "And everyone should keep their showers short."

"But why?" Hu asks.

"The world is running out of clean, fresh water, you know. We must do something to save water before it's too late."

"I see. I'll try to take a short shower," Hu says. "Thank you for your suggestion.

Bye."

"Oh,I have one more suggestion," says Mr. Shower.

"Well, I'm all____ears."

"You should replace(替换) your power showerhead with a regular(常规的) one," says the Four-Minute Shower. "A regular showerhead uses 10 kilos of water a minute.

A power showerhead can use up to 20 kilos."

"All right. I'll let Dad know. What other things can I do?"

"Well, sometimes, you can try taking a cold shower in the morning. A cold shower will make you finish in four minutes. And you'll help save electricity (电).

Many people think it's important and good for health to wash the food before cooking it. But for some food like eggs, washing can do more harm(坏处) than good.

People like to wash the shell(壳) before they cook the egg. They want to make sure the egg is clean and there are no germs(细菌) on it. But they don't need to do this, because factories will do the cleaning work when they sell the eggs.

There is a coating on the shell of the egg. With the coating, germs can not get into the egg easily. When factories do the cleaning work, they wash away the coating and put a kind of special thing on the egg shell. It is there to keep germs from coming into the egg.

"Of course there are germs on the egg, but by washing it, you make it worse(更糟糕的). The egg shell is porous(可渗透的). The water can get germs into the egg when you wash it," says health scientist Amy Leigh Mercree. "And this can happen more easily when you use cold water or running water ."

"So don't wash eggs—save yourself some time and keep the germs where they are," Mercree says.

Around the world, many kinds of wild animals are in danger of extinction(灭绝) because they have no places to live in or have no more food to eat. Endangered(濒危的 ) wild animals live all over the world and you may even find some in your hometown. Here are some helpful ways for saving endangered animals.

Find out what animals are in danger. Spend some time learning about these animals and what their favourite places are.

Do something for nature reserves(自然保护区). Nature reserves are good places to help save endangered animals. You can give some money to nature reserves or spend your time helping the nature reserves to save endangered animals.

Never buy things made of endangered animals. Don't harm endangered animals or do something terrible to their living places. We should try our best to save them and their living places.

Join an endangered animal protection organization(保 护 组 织 ). You can save animals through these organizations by planting more trees and calling for more people to save animals.

If everyone works hard to save endangered animals, we'll get a more beautiful world. Let's take action from now on!

I'm Jenny from Grade Seven. Our school is over at 3 o'clock every afternoon.

Every Friday after school, my friends Kate, Lucy, Annie and I have something to do.

We do some cleaning on the school playground for two hours. We usually take some rubbish bags with us.

"How can we four clean the big playground?" Lucy asks.

I share my idea, "How about working in groups?"

So we divide us into two groups. Annie and Kate are in one group and Lucy and I are in the other group. Annie and Kate start from the south end, and Lucy and I start from the north end. Two hours later, we meet in the middle of the playground.

Every week students from different classes come together with us to clean the playground.

Lots of students play on the playground every day. And some of them may fall over all kinds of rubbish, like banana skins(外 皮 ) or water bottles. We clean the playground every Friday and it's closed(关闭) on the weekend. Then every Monday the nice and clean playground is there for us to use. Everyone can play on it happily.

We're very happy for our work.

Lisala Folau is a 57-year-old man. He lives on a small island in Tonga. On the evening of January 15. 2022, of volcanic eruptions（火山爆发），tsunami waves(海啸波）hit Tonga. Lisala was painting his house when he the news from his brother—the tsunami was coming.

He was very but he had no time to run away.  .the waves were inside his home.Lisala climbed on a tree. but when he got down, big wave came and took him into the sea. Although he is disabled(残疾的)and has problems in ,he still tried to swim.27 hours .Lisala swam to the island of Tongatapu. It is about 13 km from his home. Then he walked down a road to ask for .A driver found him and connected him with his family.

Lisala's story of staying in the open waters for such a  time quickly went viral(广为传播的）on the Internet. Some people called "real life Aquaman"

In these years, electric(电动的) cars are popular in our daily life. But do you know the electric plane? The company Eviation made the world's first fully electric plane. The plane is called Alice. In September 2022,it made its first flight(飞行) in Washington, the US and flew in the sky for about eight minutes.

The plane can carry nine passengers(乘客）and two pilots at the same time. Also it is very quiet and makes almost no waste gases(废气).There are 21.500 small batteries(申池)on the plane. They weigh 4,000 kg, half of the plane's weight. Together, they make the plane able to fly for one to two hours.

Because it is fully electric, it is cheap to fly the plane. But it is very expensive to make the plane. So nobody knows if electric planes will be a common way to travel around in the future.

Logan Ober is 17 years old and lives in California. He is in his last year at Rancho Cotate High School. Logan is good at fixing computers. 

Last year, Logan asked his computer science teacher Kristi McWilliams if he could try to fix some broken computers. McWilliams said yes. It turned out that she was wrong. Logan returned days later with three working computers. This surprised McWilliams greatly. She said Logan might know more about fixing computers than she does!

He said this could help reduce(减少)e-waste. When he finished fixing a broken computer, he would give it away to a person or a group who needed it. 

But thanks to Logan, people can have computers for free. Logan is happy that he can use his skills to help people. He wishes that he can get a job in the technology(科技) company Apple.

She would like him to open a computer repair(修理) shop someday. She says that if she has computer problems in the future, he is the first person she will call.
